an adventure in reading
Each of the Novellas has a protagonist of unusual proportions, attempting to find something just slightly beyond himself or herself. While being a part of contemporary fiction, there is a certain historical perspective such as the disposed, wandering Jew of Aharon Appelfeld's "The Isles of St. George." Almost alone on this island, he wants to forget Europe, Israel, and his past. One of the most interesting characters in my opinion is Yani in David Grossman's "Yani on the Mountain." Here is a soldier left to oversee a mountain after the war of 1973. The mountain becomes a support, a challenge, something to be overcome, but his friend confronts him, "Hiding uphere on the mountain--armoring himself with hostility and contempt. Afraid. Afraid.." Benjamin Tammuz has one brother living his life vicariously through watching his brother's life unfold in a near-by house. "The Brother" is a thoughtful tale of envy, suppressed love, and hatred. In Yaakov Shabtai's "Uncle Peretz Takes Flight", a zany Jewish communist wants to save the world (which he doesn't even like very much), attending meetings during the day and coming home to climb up on the roof in preparation for flight. Altogether, this is a wonderful collection of stories.

Excellent reference
This well-written and concise book gives information on many type of pathologies the massage therapist should be familar with. I also used this book as a reference for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork and found it pretty helpful. However, if you are looking for the type of questions asked on the NCETMB, I would buy the following which is also sold on amazon.com:

Promiscuous at Forty
Marion, a professional mother and wife, buried in Salt Harbor, Maine has decided to attend a writers' convention in New York City for two days. Aspring to be recognized as a "real poet", Marion's two day sojourn becomes one of self revelation and self absorption. Marion's escapades during her 2 day visit are more than most of us would expect to encounter in an entire lifetime. Her morals are challenged as her senses are heightened, removing her "responsible" shackles and liberating her narcistic and artistic needs. The reasoniong behind the title "Naked at Forty" may be twofolds--first since Marion finds herself physically naked with Nedda and her lover and then with Myles, an old time flame, and second because Marion unclothes herself mentally and spiritually, unleashing herself from her inhibitions. Upon returning home to Larry and the Boys in Maine, on the surface it might seem to be same Marion, but underneath this facade, she has become a different woman. Ruth Benjamin gave a forthright description of a woman, entering middle age, trying to grasp on to what life has to offer before it is too late.

Wonderful Jewish fiction
"On a Golden Chain" is the story of a woman and her family. When she discovers that she may have Jewish roots, she and her husband begin searching for both her roots and their Jewish Heritage. This is a wonderful story for young and not so young Jewish women. It emphasizes a traditional form of Judaism and Jewish commitment. I highly recommend it.

How did this get past the proofreaders??
I picked this up in a bookstore for my English Composition CLEP test, and got through four pages, finding three typographical errors in the example questions--before I realized that they were unintentional. Unacceptable, for sure.
There are too many typographical errors in this book
This book has too many typographical errors. I used 3 books,Cracking the Clep(Princeton),Clep English composition(Comex),and Barrons. The first two are GREAT books that provide the background(nuts and bolts)needed to pass the english test. Barrons has plenty of sample questions, but lacks english grammar review material. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
Don't waste your money, I'm returning mine to the store
I bought this book as an impulse at a book store, wanting to CLEP the English Composition exam. Unfortunatly, this book is riddled with technical errors throughout. I took the initial exam, missing several questions like I suspected. But the reason I missed some of the questions was because the answers were wrong. At page 62, I had seen enough errors to make me want to return this book. Don't buy it, try something else.
