This book was daring and creative to read because of it's intriguing storyline. It seemed like she really had amneza. I was hoping she would come out of it. Read it and see what happens!

Lightning Strikes by Mary Lynn Baxter
The book was excellant, but left the reader hanging with several characters with problems unsolved. An amnesia victim, bride leaving the alter following an altercation with guns, etc. Is there a sequel?

(...) story
Slow Burn is one of the few novels that I remember with fondness from my just beginning reading days. One of the first romance novels I ever read, the story of Marnie and Tate has stuck with me. Marnie is involved with Lance, Tate's son. Tate offers Marnie money to break it off with Lance. Marnie is angry, of course, even though she had had every intention of breaking it off because she did not feel the same way about Lance as Lance felt about her. Lance gets kidnapped, and Marnie sees the kidnapper's face, but cannot remember because of the trauma. Tate sets Marnie up at his ranch. The (...) tension begins building immediately and explodes into an inferno. The story is laced with Marnie's father being an Alzheimers patient, and the heartbreak Marnie feels because of this. In the end, Marnie remembers the man's face, though Lance escapes under his own steam. Tate then breaks it off with Marnie because he believes his son is in love with Marnie and that Marnie would be better off with a man younger than he, even if he will suffer to see his son and Marnie together. Marnie gets back together with Tate in the end because Lance tells his father that he is okay with Marnie and Tate's relationship. A wonderful book deserving five stars, you won't regret buying this one. A keeper for sure.

TANTILIZING AND TEASING
This is my first book by Mary Lynn Baxter and it will not be the last. What superior writing skills and weaving of characters Mary Lynn Baxter has done in this book. I could actually picture the entire book with her vivid descriptions of each character and their personalities. The opening hook starts in the past where a young, excessively inebriated doctor stops to help a pregnant woman who has been in an accident on his way home. He gets her to the hospital, but leaves without anyone seeing him since his job as a doctor would be in great jeopardy. Then the story moves forward many years later and the central focus is about a journalist, Dana, who goes back to her hometown to do a story on a certain infertility specialist, Yancy Granger who is nominated for the Nobel prize. There is love, hate, greed, mystery and most of all hot, steamy sultry sex. There are lots of major surprises throughout this book and twists and turns that make your head spin around and it keeps you turning page after page. Just when you think you know where the plot is going, Mrs. Baxter surprises us again and again. This is a great read, thoroughly enjoyable and one that I highly recommend.

Someone pass me an anti-depressant -- STAT!
Reading this book had to be the most painful, gut-wrenching experience of my life. The tragedies and sorrows just kept coming and coming! I mean, I don't need for the books I read to be all sweetness and light, but this was ridiculous. It seemed to be a test of how much misery one human being can endure before they give up and/or kill themselves. True, the romance was there, and it was powerful, but - jeesh!!

So, to sum up, if you're an avid reader of depressing Oprah-recommended fare and tragedy in general, this book is all for you.

As for me and my reading buddies, we're saying, AAHHHH!! and running the other way. Fast.

Margaret - Melbourne Australia
A great book! However, I found it amazing to read the first reviewer who gave it such a low score - did we read the same book? I normally prefer to read murder/suspense novels but thought I would give this one a go - take my word for it, if you want to have an enjoyable read, don't go past this one.

Extraordinary
This book is the best ive read in years Mary Lynn Baxter has done a wonderful job. Her masterpiece is about a young girl named Beth Melbourne whose life was shattered at the tender age of 18. Following that heartbreaking incident she fled her hometown Shawnee,Louisiana in search hope to fill her wounds. I hope whoever reads this review reads this wonderful book today you wont regret it.

Eh . . .
_One Summer Evening_ started slow and didn't get much better. I didn't really like the characters (especially Cassie's parents who were so sickening it was almost comical), and didn't feel that I could connect with them on any sort of level. The main plot of the story was somewhat engaging though I became distracted by the sub-plot involving the land deal and the lawyer -- it just didn't seem to fit. I really didn't feel that Cassie and Austin's relationship was based on anything but lust, and though that's often a good way to start a relationship it doesn't usually lead to something that will last. I feel Cassie was entirely too selfish in keeping Tyler away from his natural father for so long regardless of her feelings about Austin. Also, the romance only really developed about six pages before the end of the story. There was too much wasted time on other things and not enough focus on the relationship between Cassie and Austin. All in all, _One Summer Evening_ was satisfactory for a one-time read -- but not a keeper. Though I wouldn't rule out all of Ms. Baxter's work based on this one story, I would be reluctant to start another of her books.

HOT AND SIZZLING!!!
This was a fantastic book and it was really great. The love scenes were so hot I could barely contain myself. I've read two other books from this author and her previous work is definitely worth looking into. I was a little uneasy about reading the book because it had been a while since reading her books but I know she's a great author.

EXCELLENT!!!!!!
I have to admit at first I was not real sure about this book it had not gotten very good reviews. But I guess I really need to learn to not trust reviews and go with my insticts about her books a little more because this one was great. She blends elements that I really love to read in books, and does it well. I am 25 years old so I am not wild about older men but Austin was one sexy man and Cassie was a terrific woman. After A Day In April I didn't think it could get any better. But as usual I was wrong. Buy it you won't be disappointed.

Bryce Burnette is a preacher that has a passion for what he does. Katherine Mays is the town party girl. Bryce and Katherine feel an instant attraction toward each other, but Katherine is unwilling to act on their attraction. Bryce, on the other hand, is not a man to give up and Katherine is not a woman whom he wants to give up.

Katherine has had a bad experience with a preacher in the past and feels that she cannot trust Bryce. Katherine is also aware that because of her reputation and her business that the members of Bryce's church would not like seeing her and Bryce together. With all of the obstacles in their way avoiding each other is still difficult for Bryce and Katherine.

This was an enjoyable short story, but I wish that it did not end so abruptly. I would have enjoyed having another chapter to see how things turn out for Bryce and Katherine.

Tempting Janey

JUST OKAY
This is my first Mary Lynn Baxter book. Actually, I inadvertently bought another one just the other day. Hope it is better than this one. Bottom line. . .it's okay. Not a keeper. I will be sending it off to my mother. The story is fairly interesting but nothing to get excited about. A little slow. If you feel you just have to have this one, buy it used.

Satisfying read.
Janey Mayfield had moved back to South Carolina with her daughter, but things started to go awry when Marine-turned-high school principal Dillon Reed stepped back into her life. They needn't have been reminded of the affair which turned their well-ordered lives upside down, but when Janey's ex-husband and daughter rebel against her in their own ways, where else does she have to turn? And where will she go from here? Mary Lynn Baxter's latest book explores characters and relationships of different levels within those characters. A reader may be disturbed toward the end of the book, but this dose of harsh reality can be what makes the story much more believable. With the combination of reality and depth, Tempting Janey can satisfy a reader well.

Finding love in all the wrong places
Janey Mayfield has a full plate. Returning home to run her aunt's candy shop, she is faced with an unfaithful ex who favors the bottle and wants her back; slipping sales at the candy shop; a teenage daughter who is eager to spread her wings and an elderly old friend of her aunt who is in need of care. What could be worse? Add fighting an attraction to Dillon Reed, muscular hunk, former friend and principal of her daughter's school. Dillon is the very last person Janey should be attracted to. A shared heartache binds them to the past. Dillon has his own feeings about the past to overcome but seeing Janey ignites something inside him. Will this attraction be enough to overcome the terrible past which severed their friendship?

I my opinion, Mary Lynn Baxter has been underrated as an author. I find her characters real and believable and look forward to her next contemporary romance.

Good, light read
I enjoy reading anthologies whenever I want a quick, light read. You really can't expect too much since the stories are so short , the romance does seem rushed and the characters don't develop like they would in a full length novel. However I did like this book. I enjoyed all the stories. I loved the holiday theme and the way the stories all interconnected. The first story especially seemed to have a rushed ending. The conflict and resolution happily ever after happened within a page pratically!Read this book if you want a quick, sweet read. Otherwise you might want to try a full length romance.

You get what you pay for....
In this case, you're paying for 5 abridged novels. You'd be better off paying for the whole things. The main story here, by the "big name" author in the collection, Tess Gerritsen, is Under the Knife. Harlequin rereleased that book just last year. I can't believe they're trying to get people to buying it again! Here, the story has been cut down to about 80 pages. There's a reason why Gerritsen wrote a 250 page book. They cut two thirds of the story out--you can't do that without losing a lot, and Under the Knife does not come off well in the shorter version. I was disgusted by how they butchered what used to be a good story.

I hadn't read the other four books, Adam's Story and Return to Yesterday by Annette Broadrick and Everything but Time and Marriage, Diamond Style by Mary Lynn Baxter. They had to be better originally than how they were presented here. I would recommend this book only to readers who are looking to read inferior versions of their favorite authors' works. Otherwise, look up the real things. Under the Knife might cost more by itself, but you get the whole story and it's a lot better.
