I absolutly loved this book. Not only is it entertaining, it's informative as well. There were stories focusing on all aspects of being BLGT teen, or in situations with others who are. AIDS, religion, and growing up gay yourself. Some, like Am I Blue? were more lighthearted in their aproach. Others, like Micheal's Little Sister or Three Mondays in July concentrated on coming to grips and realising and accepting yourself. All of these stories in one way or another teach you something.
This is a wonderful book and wether you are homosexual, heterosexual, bisexual or just curious, this book is a wonderful way to teach yourself and enjoy yourself at the same time.

This book is a must read for everyone: gay, lesbian, straight, bisexual, or questioning. It is an interesting and instightful anthology of short stories that will open your eyes and mind. It includes stories, from funny to serious and happy to sad, by world renound and timeless writers such as Jaqueline Woodson and M.E. Kerr.

This is a really good book for anyone and everyone to read. Adults, teens, gay, lesbian, bisexual, straight, or people confused about their sexual orientation could all benifit from reading this book. This book tackle important issues in a wonderful way, short fictional stories. I think through reading this book, stereotypes and perujuces can be broken down. I would recommend that everyone read this book at some point in their live. There are twelve short stories in this book, and I though ten of them were great, while the other two were okay.

This book should appeal to many age levels. My 18 month old begs for it over and over again. The illustrations are beautiful- soft and detailed with the animals filling up the whole page. The text is one or two sentences per page and he knows the names of the animals. For the older child the facts about each animal provide an introduction to the fascinating diversity of the natural world and a reference point leading to a discussion of his or her own birth.

I read this beautifully illustrated book to my four-year-old son many times throughout my pregancy. The fact that he was born himself, just like the animals, pleased him immensely. I enjoyed reading it over and over because of the simple, charming words the author uses to describe birth. The whale mother nudges the baby whale up for its "first sip of air." The baby elephant wears "a halo of long, brown hair." And the human baby "rode curled beneath (its) mother's heart." What a wonderful, sweet way to explain the miracle of life to young children. It is also a great way to explain the different ways some animals are born. Daddy Seahorses give birth? Frogs have babies that don't look like them? It could lead to yet another trip to the library!

My son's baby sister is more than six months old, yet he still counts this book as one of his favorites. I highly recommend it!

With brief, but magical descriptions of the moments of birth for several animals, the author carries you into the special realization of the unique and magical love in human birth. The artist's fantastic pictures bring you into the world of each animal. A beautiful, and gentle introduction into the world of reproduction, without fear or discomfort. Complete innocence left unmarked, but with inspired appreciation for a true miracle.

Alison's Puppy by Marion Dane Bauer is a beginning chapter book appropriate for children ages six through eight. In the book, Alison's birthday is coming up and she really wants a puppy. Her family members do not want a puppy because puppies are messy and noisy. Alison's grandfather comes up with a very creative way to help her birthday wish come true and still respect the opinions of the other members of her family. Alison's Puppy focuses on family and pets, themes that children will find very familiar. The storyline progresses quickly and holds the reader's interest and the surprise ending is funny and clever. The author does not describe the characters in great detail but readers learn about them through their dialogue and actions. The illustrations in the book as well as the layout, with small sections of text rather than large blocks of text, make this book a nice transition from picture books.

The story is based around a teenage girl, Leslie, who absoulutly doesn't want to be like her mother when she grows up. If her mother isn't giving artificial respiration to a stray cat, she is taking in foster kids or exchange students. But as the story unfolds, Leslie realizes how much like her mother she really is.

Purrloom Popcorn, the odd-eyed Cornish Rex, was perfectly happy to spend his days primping and preening before the cat-show judges and winning blue ribbons. After all, everyone just loves a winner! But one day, Popcorn is suddenly taken far from the show life he knows and consiters home, to a big old house in a strange city. The family there doesn't recognize Popcorn's value. Nor does the lonely, sad little girl who tries so desperately to befriend him. But as Popcorn attempts to return to the cat shows, he makes an amazing discovery - through his blue eye, he can see ghosts, and there are many! Through them, memories and old longings begin to surface. And soon, Popcorn must answer some difficult questions about seeing and being seen. An interesting novella, with a developed main character and wonderful illustrations (I happen to know the illustrater personally - she's a wonderful artist!). And ghosts are always cool :-)

If you have not read Ghost Eye, I think you should. In one chapter there is a fabulous action scene. It was like I was the cat, Popcorn. "Listen to this. Just ahead a man was walking out the front door, his arms loaded with odds and ends. Popcorn took his chance. He charged up the stairs, bolted between the mans feet,and slid to a stop in the middle of the front of the vestibule." Did that make you feel like you were the cat.

I liked Ghost Eye because it was challenging book. Ghost Eye had college words and a few similes. The cover looks spooky but the story is really cute and interesting. I like Popcorn because he's a champion in every contest. I hope you will read this fabulous, wonderful book, too. I give this book an 8.

I discovered this book in my school library while scanning the "beverly cleary" section for a new book to read. This was back in 1995. After i had continuously taken the book out, for years until i graduated gr 8 in 98. It is such an amazing story, if you love cats, and ghost stories its the best book. i currently don't own it. But I am looking.

Land of the Buffalo Bones is the story of Polly Rodgers, a young girl whose father is a Baptist minster who organizes 80 religously persecuted Baptists in Yeovil, England, to colonize the Minnesota Territory in the New Yeovil Colony. Although the advertisments and her father's false words tell of a wonderful and bountiful country, the 80 colonists come upon a surprise when they reach the colony--which isn't built, is covered in snow, and is in the middle of nowhere with no trees or parks or houses or anything of the sort that was promised. After the grueling ship ride over, this hardship is even worse. Soddies are built quickly for the many families, as is one for the Rodgers, since their father is not expected to work with his hands. However, all the land brings is despair. Locusts attack and destroy the crops that the first time at farming colonists grow, Polly's best friend's family is destroyed with the death of the mother and brother and the runaway of her best friend to be married to a Native American. However, the land brings Polly and her step-mother closer together and many of her other family members, despite Laura's constant pesturing. However, even though her father is taken away from his position as minister and the Rodgers must move onto a new colony, they leave happy and together, knowing they will make it.
This diary is based on the author's family, the Rodgers, and was an interesting and treasuring contribution to the series. Although I would recommend Love Thy Neighbor more out of the two new books, this diary was still very good, very unique, and worth you time.

Mary Ann Elizabeth Rodgers, called Polly by her family, is the fourteen-year-old daughter of a Baptist minister. She was born and raised in England, but now her father has decided to move the family to Minnesota in search of religious freedom. Polly begins her diary on the journey by steamship to America and describes the challenges her family and friends face on their journey to their new home, challenges that do not end once they reach Minnesota. The Rodgers and their fellow settlers face the bitter cold of winter and the scorching heat of summer, endless blizzards, a disastrous plague of locusts, as well as illness and death. Land of the Buffalo Bones is an excellent addition to the Dear America series that described the hardships of life on the prairie in the 1870s. I recommend this book to all fans of the series.

When two best friends, Joel and Tony, go on a long bike ride, something terrible happens: Tony wants to take a swim in a river that crosses on their way. Joel knows better, but gives in to Tony who called him "chicken". Rather than leave it at a quick swim, Joel turns the tables and now dares Tony to swim out farther. Suddenly Tony disappears. Soon it becomes evident that Tony has drowned. Back home it takes Joel awhile to accept what happened and he finally tells the truth about "the incident". -- This is the story of a friendship that ends in death because of foolish behavior found in many children today. Somehow young people have an incouragable feeling of being invincible, that nothing could ever happen to them. Some teenagers may be reckless drivers, other abuse drugs or alcohol, all without any regard for consequences. This book is a wake up call for all kids who read it. It appeals to everyone's common sense to THINK before you act!

I liked the book that I read because it was fun interesting and very detailed. The book talks about a boy named Joel and his best friends name is Tony.Tony is the type of friend that can talk his friends into anything. But usually Joel does not lisen to him but this time he does and that was bad choose for him to make.Because during a bicycle trip to the park, Joel's best friend Tony dares him to a swimming race in to the dangerous Vermillion River which Tony dosen't exsiccate win.So Joel does not want his friend to think that he is a whimp so he goes in but when he reaches the sandbar he looks back and his best friend had vanished. ... I would rate this book 4 stars because it was an existing book to read. It had a really good conclusion to the story. I would recommend this book to people because if you like books that are really existing and fun you should really read this book.It is an awsome book to read it made me think what if that happened to me what would I do to propare so that wont happen to me.

On my honor is about two boys who break a promise, and one of the boys drown when they go to the river instead of the park.
Joel dared Tony to swim to the sand bar. That's why Tony died.
After Joel couldn't find Tony he despratly needed help. He ran out in front of a car and asked for help.But there wasn't any luck.
Joel went home and locked himself inside of the house.His father came home and wonderd where Tony was but Joel lied. Tony's mother and father were very worried.

Can you imagine what the rest of the story is about?
If not this is a good book to read.

I purchased this book for a 13 year old writer and was very disappointed. While the book may be useful for writers several years younger than her, much of what was covered in its pages is taught in late grade school and early middle school classrooms. Chapters that do hold potential--such as the one on revising--still fall short of what they could provide (particularly if your writer already revises and has others review his or her work). If you are at the point of trying to find guides and writing resources for a budding young writer, the child is probably already beyond most of what this book has to offer. If you are looking for an introduction to the very basics of dilogue, points of view, rising action, and character, this book is probably a good buy.

Marion Dane Bauer's book has been a tremendous help in my understanding good writing, and improving my own writing. Even after publishing three picture books and a novel for middle grade writers, I still like to reread her specific techniques and instructions on writing craft skills. If you are interested in any aspect of writing, you would certainly benefit from the information presented in this easy-to-use guide for authors.

Marion Dane Bauer's advice about fiction writing is orgainized in a way that's entertaining and easy to follow. Some of the points were a little painful at first, since I'd been doing just the wrong thing, but now that I've "seen the light" I like my own writing better.

The book is directed at young writers, with examples from children's books, but it's helpful for anyone, writing any kind of fiction.

This was a delightful book that shares the importance of teddy bears in the lives of young children. It was an eye-opener for this reader, as I never realized that children might look at teddy bears so differently from the way I do and did as a child. I was concerned with the sibling treatment shared in this book, but this could be an area of discussion within a family or even a class.

This book was just OK. It is about a girl, Jennifer, who really wants a horse. All she ever wanted was a horse! She is dissapointed on her birthday when she only receives riding lessons and a china horse. Her china horse is special., Really Special. The china horse turns into a real horse, Moonseeker. How will Jennifer be able to hide Moonseeker?

I liked this book because I really like horses and I want one! It is an exciting story. The horse was stubborn and he talked.

I read this book maybe 4 or 5 years ago, and I don't remember a whole lot of the details, so I cannot give it a perfect 5. I do remember that it was a really cute book, with a good ending. I reccomend it, but for younger kids, seeing as it's short with easy vocabulary and big print. I was probably in 4th grade when I read it and I really enjoyed it, so I hope other young kids will read it and enjoy it as much as I did.:)
