Seasoned practitioners--don't bother
This book is quite disappointing for those who are knowledgeable in this subject area. One new to the subject might find CE-VI serves as a quick (but weak)overview. In other words, Baldwin never addresses any one of the subject areas with depth. Each book chapter is only a summary of the area it addresses with a few very short case histories inserted. I would suggest all purchase "Remarkable Healings: A Psychiatrist Discovers Unsuspected Roots of Mental and Physical Illness" by Shakuntala Modi.

disappointing
I was hoping for a factual/investigative account of the tragedy of the Atlanta child murders. Instead, this book seemed to be an essay written on the problems of racial injustice and ignorance in Atlanta, America, and the world. Nothing wrong with that, but then I take into account that the essay was written in a most meandering and disjointed fashion, full of incomprehensible references, with an overwhelming tone of arrogance. Baldwin is right, everyone else is wrong and to blame. Not persuasive, just a waste of time.

Can People of Color Be that Cruel...?
This is a difficult read because Baldwin's thoughts come across like a man too perplexed to ask "Why?". And so there are many crosscurrent thoughts, parentheticals that are not in parenthesis, and sheer rage. The question: who could be murdering the children in Atlanta? And has the years of systematic oppression and racism made it possible for a black man to be become that cruel? Has the oppressed become the oppressor?

And I can understand Baldwin's great perplexity...he wants to point the finger at the American way of life. How years and years of being considered not human has affected the mindset of the average person of color. And of having to come through identity crises, legal crises, social crises to be confronted with who...? A person who is this insane enough to be killing innocent kids? Why have we struggled so much, Baldwin seems to be asking, to create this monster?

And so, it is another probing we received from the always philosophical, questioning, always provocative Baldwin.

Why read the book now? Well, although this murderer has been found and given punishment based on the fullest extent of the law, the questions remains.

How have we come to this?

Freeing the Readers
I awaited my order of "Freeing the Captives" by Dr. Ireland-Frey with great interest. It seemed to address a specific problem I was researching from a novel point of view. However, my dissapointment upon obtaining it and reading it was extreme. Even after redefining possession in this rather politically correct view of 'spirit attachment', the author fails to offer more than bone or two toward the how's and why's. Fully 85 percent of the book are recountings of seemingly effortless 'healings'. Dr. Ireland-Frey lays the probable cause of everything from mood swings to cancer to Multiple Personality Disorder to some level of 'spirit obsession'. If you are looking for a book to aid you in seeking to understand why certain things might occur, this is not your book. If, however, you want a book full of happy endings, and not a hair mussed in achieving them, indeed "Freeing the Captives" might be exactly what you are looking for.

Entities in our daily lives
I am in the healing field and found this book most helpful. During the time I was reading the book, four people came to me who had entity possessions. I followed the format in the stories, and was able to help these people release the thoughtforms and entities. There are more things influencing our lives then what we see with the naked eye. I feel this is a growing field and more information is needed.

Freeing the Captives: The Emerging Therapy of Treating Spiri
Sometimes a spirit, or soul, gets confused when its earthly body dies. It either doesn't see the light that awaits it, or fails to turn to the light. And sometimes these confused spirits attach themselves to new living bodies, interfering with the soul that already inhabits that body. In Freeing the Captives: The Emerging Therapy of Treating Spirit Attachment, hypnotherapist Louise Ireland-Frey, M.D. details how and why these "obsessing entities" must be released.

A pioneer in "spirit releasement therapy," Dr. Ireland-Frey practiced medicine until 1979. At age 67, she then began a new career as a hypnotherapist. Since then she has studied with others doing releasement and helped hundreds of clients.

Dr. Ireland-Frey believes there are two parts to releasement: the living person must first have the obsessing entity freed from it; and then the freed entity must be shown the way to light, so that it finds its proper place and doesn't attach itself to others.

Releasement is also known as "dispossession" by other practitioners.

Persons who have attached spirits may experience personality changes, become inexplicably depressed, or find themselves doing things they normally wouldn't do. Dr. Ireland-Frey has included dozens of case studies that illustrate how attached spirits affect people, and how she, and other practitioners, have released them.

"The earthbound souls of deceased human beings are by far the most commonly found kind of obsessing or oppressing entity," according to Dr. Ireland-Frey. There are, however, various other kinds of entitles, such as past-life personalities, negative thought-forms, elementals, and "dark beings of a demonic nature." The obsessing entities can occupy physical locations, such as homes, as well as living bodies. For those readers interested in helping others with releasement, the final chapter offers basic instructions and cautions. Dr. Ireland-Frey says "the need is great; many souls are wandering or hiding, some in bewilderment, some in fear of hell, some in fear of continuing terrors of war, abuse, or betrayal." She urges readers to "reach out to these souls and rescue or release some of these needy ones." Practitioners must take care, however, to first protect themselves from possession.

Freeing the Captives sheds new light on the age-old problem of possession and offers hope and encouragement to those whom invading entities have attached themselves, as well as providing guidance to those wishing to help free the living person and the obsessing entity.

Pretty lame Southern gothic humor
I suppose this is meant to be a funny take-off on the Southern gothic novel, but it turns out to be a pretty lame knock-off of "Cold Comfort Farm" set in South Carolina. Not worth your time.

Shedding light on misty family secrets provides tense fun
The greenhorn history professor wants to make his mark, not to mention earn tenure. As if by divine providence, one of his not-so-outstanding students turns out to come from a family whose copious records just might lead to the next great revision of Civil War history. Our professor decides its time to charm his way into the Fennel family conclave -- only to find out it's a nautilus housing ghosts (both real and metaphorical) from the shameful past. ----- Baldwin creates a zany, comic set-up, wherein our hero must deal with the likes of a mysterious voodoo house-maid, a growing romantic attraction to his student, a knuckle-headed cousin who vies for her affections, and a family matriarch who insists that the Fennel family honor not be compromised by the research. ----- There is the invevitable sexual encounter with the student -- but was it? The supernatural starts enveloping this prestige-starved prof, and like an uncomig fog, keeps the reader peering for clues from the misty horizon of the story line. Both reader and narrator struggle with attempts to untangle from the Fennel family web. The experience is quite funny, but do watch out. Just as the humor hits full-stride, a sudden turn toward the terrifying occurs. There is something either evil or redemptive about Old Captain Jack's lighthouse on the rocky shoal! As the secrets of that Fennel beacon come into focus, you will find that this has been a most memorable family visit.

Not this one
This book is extremely basic (and a bit age-ist). It's fine for someone trying not to look like a fool in their local community theater, but for anyone considering a serious career in professional acting, there are other books that provide a better, more comprehensive, and more practical introduction.

I bought this as one trying to return to the field after a long absence, but found "Breaking Into Acting for Dummies" to be better instead. For the basics of acting in general, Michael Shurtleff's "Audition" is the still the very best investment in a book that you can make.

Get Another Book
This book in a compilation of the authors' little acting stories. Some of the stories have some use, but most of which don't. I have done high school shows and a few community theater shows, and yet, still found little information I didn't already know. I'm sure there are other books out there that have more and better information, but hey, if you happen to have a collection of useless acting books, go ahead! Buy it!

Terrific!
This book gives the reader an incite into the acting world never before offered. I highly recommend it to the beginning actor as well as the accomplished thespian. The helpful recommendations for auditioning will be of great value not only to the actor but to the casting directors and producers.

Chock full of errors
Although I have used Coriolis Books in the past, I am sadly disappointed in their forage into software based training. I have found numerous spelling mistakes, questions with wrong answers, windows where the answers are not viewable, thus the question cannot be answered. My greatest shock is that they would even release a product with this many errors in it. Also, some of the answers are so easily identifiable as wrong it begs the question whether someone who knows anything about Windows 2000 actually wrote them.

Very Realistic and Free Updates
It only starts off with 400 questions, but baby comes with FREE online updates. I really like the notes feature - great if you're using it as a study aid. And the questions aren't all multiple choice - there's drag and drop, prioritizing and simulations - just like the real thing. I would give it 5 stars if it came with more than 400 questions straight out of the box. Installs smooth - I haven't noticed any problems with it at all.
