Required for a class
I took an Access Programming class at CVTC in Wisconsin and was required to buy this as a textbook. The instructor eventually admitted that this was a poor textbook and was unable to teach from it. They did not use the text for the class the next semester so I am stuck with it. I wasted my money on the class and the textbook. At one point our instructor gave of 3 pages of corrections for the book that she downloaded from the website.
Nice in concept ....
I had to purchase this book for a class at Lansing Community College, and have had nothing but problems. The examples are unclear and overly wordy. The number of typo's and other errors in this book are unforgivable, and it appears to have been rushed to publication.
It would have been a nice addition to see some kind of hints given for the end of chapter exercises, and the number of records you would find in a properly created query, especially since later exercises build off a query from Chap 2.
If you have to use this book for a class, you may want to buy another book as an additional reference.
Textbook
We are currently using this book as a text at Gillette campus - NWCCD. It is the only book that uses Access and Visual Basic to do database programming. It is easy to follow and provides the students with the database applications and programming application that we need for future database development and maintenance.
James Baldwin a Biography

Baldwin fan? Read this for the info., not the writing.
I haven't read many biographies, but I have read lots of Baldwin -- both essays and novels. I came away from this book wishing that it was as compelling as its subject -- that Leeming had contributed his insights to the efforts of a writer closer to Baldwin's caliber -- and that the book had the benefit of a better editor. There is a sense that perhaps Leeming reveres Baldwin a bit too much. It's hard to communicate a true sense of intimacy with your subject when he's so high up on a pedestal! Overall, a disappointment.

I Agree With The Others - Terrible Book - Big Disappointment
I was shocked at the horrendous content and arrangement of this book. Normally speaking, the New Perspectives and/or Course Technology books are very informative and flow in a manner by which most people can learn. It seems to me that the authors wrote down "Access words", threw them up in the air, stood back while those words affixed themselves to pages, and then called those pages a book. The saving grace for students is that many colleges are now teaching Access 2000. Too bad that I am forced to give this book as good a rating as one star, but there is no lower rating available.
there are far better ways to learn Access and VBA
This book was a textbook for an MIS class I took in college. There are far better ways to learn Access and VBA than by using this book. It does an ok job of showing you the basics, but it lacks technical explanations and doesn't help the student draw conclusions or make connections to other application development concepts. Instructors should stay away from this book unless they can fill in the gaps left by the authors!
I am more confused then when I started.
I often have no idea what the authors are talking about. They seem to jump from one thing to the next without any reason and without defining things. If I want to pass the class I am taking I will have to buy another text book to understand this subject. This book is a disappointment!
The Catcher in the Rye (Cliffs Notes)
Published in Paperback by Cliffs Notes (May, 2000)

A shame
I was checking the comments on The Catcher in the Rye and saw that there were Cliff Notes on this book. I couldn't believe it! That someone would actually write notes on The Catcher in the Rye. This book should never be summarized into Cliff Notes. This book should be read in its entirety or not at all, regardless of how much time you have. This book can be read easily in a few hours, and it's the best book I've read in a while. It is a disgrace that this book was allowed to be put into Cliff Notes and these are for people who are too lazy or ignorant to pick up the actual book.
totally unnecessary
The only reason you would need cliff notes for this book is if you are lazy or short on time and theres a test the next day. Yet the cliff notes arent descriptive enough for you to get the whole book. I can understand needing cliff notes for the confusing dialect of "tale of two cities", or the background and analysis for "Brave new World", but going through the Catcher in the Rye is a breeze, and the book is enjoyable. Its one of my favorite books ever. Dont even bother with these cliff notes.
Four Stars For The Lazy
Despite the fact that CliffsNotes has helped me through one too many an English Lit quiz, I believe that this is taking it a little too far. Catcher in the Rye is, by far, one of my favorite books of all time, and to create CliffsNotes for it requires something less than academic foresight. Talk about not being able to see the forest for the trees. The entire point of J.D. Salinger's one and only published novel is that though we do need to carry out our schooling, education isn't there to cloak the mind into believing that regurgitating facts onto meaningless scraps of wood pulp. It's there to take the free thought that we have and expand it, so that we can better express ourselves, and not bury who we are behind a pile of textbooks. The specifics of the life of Holden Caulfield are not important. The generalities of the life of Holden Caulfield are not important. What is important is the ideals expressed in the book--not where Holden went to school, not how many times he mentions the hunting hat, not where the ducks do actually go. Both teachers and students of today must learn that teaching others and yourselves that this is all that's important is like building a wall around yourself. So read the book. It'll bring you to something closer to happiness than an A ever will. And hell, if you actually read the thing, you might ace it anyway.
