MAD is Hilarious!
The Usual Gang of Idiots has stirred up another wonderful book! This is one of my favorites because I love the quotes of the one and only Alfred E. Neumann. Also, one of my favorite MAD writers, Sergio Aragones edited this book! This book is a must-have!

Groo and Rufferto

A very funny graphic novel
Groo is a barbarian's barbarian: muscular, an expert swordsman, and incredibly *less* intelligent that his faithful canine companion, Rufferto. When Groo wanders into the land of King Ravenus, a greedy tyrant who is taxing his people into oblivion, confusion follows in his wake. To make matters worse, King Ravenus' wizard, Anakrony, uses Rufferto for his time-travel experiment, transporting him to a horribly dehumanized future (our own). Groo wants Rufferto back, and is willing to destroy just about everything to get him.

This is a very funny graphic novel. The artwork, which reminded me a lot of the old Mad Magazine issues, caught my eye, and the story kept me reading. If you want a funny, light-hearted (and light-headed) read, then this book is for you!

Groo, you moron!!
the master of running jokes, mark evanier and sergio aragones are here once again with tdumb, dumb groo tales. you're gonna love them.

A man and his dog (who's smarter than he is)
Groo Houndbook

As should be obvious, this is where Groo the most feared barbarian in the world (feared by everyone who knows his name and face!) meets his trusty sidekick Ruferto, a dog smarter than he is. Fleeing a pampered life into the chaotic life that Groo brings about, Ruferto and his new companion encounter Pal and Drum, the schemers who cut an arms deal with Groo. Of course, they've never learned that the best deal to cut with Groo is to RUN FOR THE HILLS! Groo gets wealthy through no fault of his own and winds up penniless as usual.

Note: the printing quality is generally okay to very good for the series, but this is generally a collection for Groo fans and comic book fans. The binding on some of my copies is broken (these are soft backs) and the print is now and then not the greatest. As a fan, I bought every collection I could, and enjoy them despite this! Not though for long-term pristine collectors though.

Sergio Aragone's the Groo Houndbook
Sergio's work with MAD is famous. Yet this Groo Houndbook content a beautiful plot combined with our hero that can "manage" to destroy anything.

This 9-12 yrs rated comic attracts me very much [20+], btw, this one's a very good book to be read and enjoy. Using rasterized color image is another attraction of this book in the abundance of advanced computer coloring comics.

Groo causing devestation as usual
Groo Inferno

In this collection there's a magic amulet that grants every wish which falls into the hands of Groo the Barbarian - OH MY GOD! From there mayhem erupts as various parties strive to gain control of the amulet or at best get it out of Groo's hands into anyone else's hands (anyone would be better than Groo!). As the introductory episode shows - Groo is the worse thing on earth to get involved with, especially when you confuse him! Included are the sorceresses Abra and Kadabra - oh, I mean Arba and Dakarba- , the sage and his dog with no name, the Minstrel, Arcadio the best warrior on earth, and assorted fools who've never learned that the best way to get anything out of Groo is to RUN AS FAR AWAY FROM HIM AS YOU CAN!

Note: the printing quality is generally okay to very good for the series, but this is generally a collection for Groo fans and comic book fans. The binding on some of my copies is broken (these are soft backs) and the print is now and then not the greatest. As a fan, I bought every collection I could, and enjoy them despite this! Great for the collector
I have collected Groo comics since I was a kid, and this reprint of Groo the wanderer numbers 33 through 36. Not some of my favorite Groo tales but very funny. I did like "The Amulet", wich is in 2 parts and continued from Groo number 26 wich would be in "The Groo Garden".

Beware of Groo!
Groo Mightier than The Sword

An Oriental king is dyeing on his bed and lamenting he has never seen the pleasure of Groo's destruction, so he sets his three sons out to fulfill that last dying wish with his empire as the reward. Detestation results as the events foment the birth of the newspaper and the lies which are printed as a result throw everything into chaos. Groo only has to slay a few armies instead of his regular diet of slaying everyone - the newspaper is so handy in creating chaos. For those who know him not, Groo is the most feared creature on earth: he's a devastating swordsman and as dumb as a rock, hence anyone who knows his name flees at the sight of him. Some short takes of Ruferto included in the end. Note: the printing quality is generally okay to very good for the series, but this is generally a collection for Groo fans and comic book fans. The binding on some of my copies is broken (these are soft backs) and the print is now and then not the greatest. As a fan, I bought every collection I could, and enjoy them despite this! Hilarious!
I've always seen those Groo comic books, yet never bought one (figuring I don't know the background, etc, so I won't understand it fully). So yesterday, when I saw a Groo graphic novel lying around in my local comic book store, I knew I had to buy it. What can I say? It was worth the wait!

The plot: Groo is a mighty warrior, a barbarian, who just roams the earth with his loyal dog, looking for adventure and trouble. The thing is, Groo is really, really, quite stupid. In this graphic novel, Pipil Khan, a tyrant whose schemes were foiled many times by Groo, is on his death bed. Pipil Khan, however, declares he won't name his heir because he keeps being tormented by memories of Groo. So he issues a quest for his three sons: the son who brings the head of Groo, will be the named heir. So, Etrufio, a great warrior, Ogamio, a great wizard, and Relmihio, a great schemer, start hunting for Groo. The plot gets complicated by the fact that Groo's tales by now reached mythological stature, and everyone think of him as a six headed giant - nobody really knows how he looks like, and also because Groo is just too plain stupid to know somebody actually wants to kill him..
This leads to a very amusing tale..

I wholeheartily recommend this graphic novel, it was very amusing - and I definitely will be reading more about Groo's adventures.

An interesting visual journey.
This book closely resembles the work of Sergio Aragons who makes strips without words that still carry a story.

An interesting book. Nothing classic, but still an interesting concept.

Love and Mayhem
Groo the Barbarian's lady love Chakaal features in these episodes where despite her attempts to travel to the furthest place on earth to get away from him he's tracked her down. Chakaal is in fine form, defeating raiding female warriors from the sea. Groo is also in fine form, spoiling half her plans and coming up with a plan to save a village that works except the village doesn't need saving when he springs it - too late! Together they free a village of the terror of a resident giant spider and investigate a dragon hatchery scam. Chakaal manages almost with sentimental regret to get away from him in the end - or does she?

Note: the printing quality is generally okay to very good for the series, but this is generally a collection for Groo fans and comic book fans. The binding on some of my copies is broken (these are soft backs) and the print is now and then not the greatest. As a fan, I bought every collection I could, and enjoy them despite this! Call it nostalgia but I liked it
I'm not sure if ever even read Groo when I was young but I know my childhood hero (my friend's older brother), read it and talked about it all the time. So first I started seeing old copies of Groo laying around in comic stores and wanting to get them. Unfortunately i'm a completist, so I couldn't start in the middle. Then I finally found this collection of the first four comics. I was worried that it might be stupid and I might just be being nostalgic, but it paid off. The art is really cool and it's funny too.

Now I just need to find #2 in the series. Fortunately it looks like some of the collections are still in print.

Assorted Grooish mayhem
Groo Jamborie

Having no central theme, these are various Grooish stories showing Groo going about his daily life in search of gainful employment and food. And causing mayhem everywhere he goes. Ruferto is lost briefly but is recovered. And then Groo sets upon a quest to impress a would be employer by recovering a copy of the glass vase he smashed. Of course most of these people don't know he's Groo - otherwise they'd never get involved with one of the dumbest and most dangerous creatures on earth.

Note: the printing quality is generally okay to very good for the series, but this is generally a collection for Groo fans and comic book fans. The binding on some of my copies is broken (these are soft backs) and the print is now and then not the greatest. As a fan, I bought every collection I could, and enjoy them despite this!
