Another take on menopause -- and a pretty good one at that
I have followed Lynn Andrews' books for many years and while I had purchased this one a long time ago, I never read it. Not until I began having my own questions and challenges with menopause. Deep inside me there was a sense that this is indeed a sacred time of transformation and a coming of age that has not been appreciated or explored by women of our culture. Andrews takes the reader through her own experience (complicated by the loss of her mother), the highs and the lows, including a hysterical interaction with a male physician (the sum of our nightmares, I expect), and her own embarrassment of losing her estrogen patch while hottubbing with her boyfriend. She creates a 20th century journey that honors all who have gone before us and all who come after. While her medical information is somewhat shakey, I appreciate her spiritual guidance and her encouragement as we see this transition not as a door closing, but a new horizon opening. Not recommended for the narrow minded, but for those who see beyond religion and into spirit.

Wonderfully helpful !
So many books about Menopause are dry and do nothing to help one understand what's happening. Lynn's book helped me see many things I was trying not to see and know I was OK. The book should be read by every woman going into this time of life.

Fiction - NOT Fact
As a work of fiction, this book may have some merit. But, please be informed that this book IS fiction and not fact. It is currently being protested by the aboriginal community of Australia as a fabrication and outrageous exploitation of their culture. Please see their website on this matter at www.dumbartung.org.au/report2.html

Crystal Woman: by Lynn Andrews
I have most if not all of lynn's books and they are the most informative and interesting books I have ever had the Honor of reading. There is one book I do not have. That Is Crystal Woman. I work with crystals in my daily life I feel this book will help me on this journey of crystals and as always Lynn's books are always my favorite to read. Thank you, Michele

Andrews' Most Moving Book Yet!
I have read most of Lynn Andrews books (I started with Medicine Woman) and even though her first experiences and journeys were quite fascinating, this particular narration explains much more about female spirituality and what a woman can give to herself and those around her. Through Andrews different experiences in the Australian aboriginal landscape (they are many), we see that once you start on your spiritual quest, you receive/acquire more and more gifts that are directly related to your spiritual courage. "Crystal Woman" truly moved me - and I've been into New Age studies since for the past twenty years!

Step out of yourself, place, and time for a mind-trip.
This is a haunting tale that takes you out of yourself, actually almost out of "humanness" to reflect on what it is to know something or somebody. Did this really happen? Was it all a halucination? A dream? Or can we really exist beyond ourselves and learn to know in a new way? I read the book 3 years ago and it still haunts me on occassion. It is written from a perspective so totally different that it makes you step away from yourself and look afresh at your own world, works and thoughts.

Truth or Dare
Do you dare to believe that this "story" is true? We , the readers are told to dare to believe, yet it is well known that the author is writing a fictive memoir, a story full of metaphor for a culture that no longer dares to believe the imaginal realms are true. The problem is if the author is actually experiencing it on the imaginal plane, but dares to say it is as real as you reading this then how can we be any more confused as a seeker, looking for something to believe in. Call it for what it is, we do not need to have teachers leading us down anymore darkened roads, we need teachers that dare to say the imaginal is as real as anything and therefore hold that up as a guiding light. Tell the Truth.

Whether Fact or Fiction, Star Woman a Fine Book
This powerful book is part of a new genre that has been forming since the emergence of Carlos Castaneda's writings in the late 1960s and early 70s--you could call the genre "spiritual memoir." Readers who are inclined to see the world literally and who believe that there is nothing more to reality than what appears on its surface might not find these books useful. But if you wish to suspend your disbelief and skepticism, these works can prove invaluable.

Authors such as Lynn Andrews are teachers, and sometimes the content of their books is challenging. Whether you accept it as fact or dismiss it as fiction, Star Woman is beautifully written, suspense-filled, dramatic, and full of lessons.

The truth and power behind the obvious
I tend to rate books on how they talk to me. And this one sure did. Just like Ms. Andrews' other books this book has the potential to change your life, if you are ready to understand the messages behind the story. It sure had quite an impact on mine. She speaks in poetic and imaginative language about fears we have difficulty facing and yet in this lyrical description I find the color and beauty to take responsibility to face those fears. How much better can a book get.

What next
As I tried keeping up with the images and story line, I felt it effecting me like a bad LSD trip. I am not sure what I was supposed to learn from these latest adventures into Wonderland but I will say this was the least entertaining of the series. I think that this type of Shamanism may be running out of gas.

An amazing glimpse into relationships and gardening
I first read this book several years ago, and was so intrigued by some of the ideas within it that I kept it on my shelf. I just moved into a new home that has a garden, and I'm rereading Shakkai to get some insights on how to go about planning a garden that would be a true spiritual haven for me.

What I totally missed in the first reading was the correspondence between human relationships and the human/natural world relationship. I was approaching my garden with a sense of respect, but now I have an even deeper understanding that the garden is about the relationships between the plants (and amongst them) and myself. I have only read a couple of Andrews books, but the parallels between this future life story and what I know of her current life experiences is shocking and yet comforting.

I now see myself as the center of my universe, surrounding by relationships with people that cross the bounds of time, and by relationships with all of the physical objects around me. My vision for my garden now is to create a place that reflects my inner peace and self understanding, more than it is about gardening books and landscape architecture.

Thank you, Lynn, for an outstanding new experience of my own life.
