Great Resource
For my senior seminar, I wrote a paper on desegregation/busing in the South. While I was doing research, a librarian found this book for me. I had to wait 2 weeks to get it through interlibrary loan, but it was worth it!! The essays really bring home the complexity of Southern desegregation when viewed through the lens of class issues. I can only aspire to produce such insightful scholarship!
TKE-- THE UNTOLD STORIES
WHAT A CHARMING PIECE ON THE ANTEBELLUM SOUTH. CRAFTED WITH PURE GENIOUS AND A PEN FOR DETAIL, "THE MODERATES' DILEMMA" BRINGS TO LIGHT THE UNDENIABLE OBSTINANCE OF THE SOUTH'S PREMIERE SCHOOL DISTRICTS.THIS WORK IS A MUST READ FOR HISTORY GRADS OF ANY BACKGROUND.
A book whose magnitude is monumental.
Matthew Lassiter, editor-in-chief of this seminal collection, sets forth, once again, a fresh standard of scholarly excellence and eloquence. His essay, "A 'Fighting Moderate,'" illustrates one of his innumerable intellectual virtues, the ability to electrify his arduously acquired historian's sobriety with an innate psychological acuity.

AMAZING
I came across this book a few years ago and it gave me understanding beyond any book I've ever read. It was difficult to read at first because it was an overload of truth. In a simple yet very deep and profound way the author explains how we can overcome some of the most troubling emotions in our lives, emotions for which we often seek therapy or medication. Andrews exposes us to the fact that most of our emotional and pyschological problems are a result of intricate decisions and actions we make to protect a self that we really should just expose. And It's so much more.
The lessons in this book are real. It contains truths of which many spend a lifetime searching. Truths that are presented to us daily in life but for some reason we cannot come to an understanding.

A profound and practical book.
This is one of my favorite books of all time. Andrews talks about what he calls Ethical Therapy. His main point is that it is psychologically healthy to act ethically, to treat others well, to conduct yourself with very little pretense, to try to do what's right and tell the truth, etc. He presents considerable scientific evidence for this assertion (which you don't really need, because once you look at your own life through this assumption, you get plenty of direct experience demonstrating its validity).
For most of the book, he shows how a greater level of integrity can solve psychological problems. Each problem gets its own chapter. Chapter titles are: Beyond Depression, Beyond Guilt, Beyond Fear, Beyond Anxiety, Beyond Addiction, etc.
It is a surprisingly practical book. I'm the author of the book, Self-Help Stuff That Works, and I am an expert on what is effective. The suggestions Andrews puts forth in this book are simple, powerful, and extremely effective. I highly recommend this book.

This book has been EXTREMELY helpful
I have read this book over and over. It is one of the best books I have ever read about shame and how to confront it and to learn to respect yourself. I highly recommend it to everyone. The author talks about many types of shame in our lives, how it effects us and how to overcome.

A great narrative of American sailors at war .
The artful title describes well the stories of the destroyer escort ships and sailors during WWII. The author was there. He skippered Sims through the Battle of the Atlantic so he has a connection to these ships and the men who manned them. His narrative is particularly touching because he was so close to the amazing story of the development of this Naval force in the face of world crisis and its equally amazing sterling performance facing the perils of subs, kamikazes and storms. This book will thrill anyone who enjoys Naval history

If Austin Powers is back, why not Marv's biofeedback book?
The futuristic scenarios seem a little dated after all these years, but they're still thought provoking. And the basic insights into using biofeedback are as useful as when the book was written. Whether you are a generation x'er trying to cope with parentental stress, or a 60's person who is a bit rusty on meditation techniques, Biofeedback: Turning On... shares valuable insights and specific techniques that you'll find helpful.
concise, easy to follow
An easy to read, popular discussion of how you can use biofeedback. Combine's Marvin Karlins' sense of humor with helpful pop pscychology. A must read for the late 90's
