Great Resource for Keeping Elders Healthy
This comprehensive manual provides all the detail any clinician would need to focus on geriatric rehabilitation. There are 7 units, dealing with general physiological health, psychological health and a new paradigm that focuses on concepts of wholeness and uniqueness vs. the traditional medical model. Pathokinesiology is addressed along with therapeutic interventions. Sensory losses are addressed also, a great book for the novice gerontologist or one with experience to have information at one's fingertips.

Juggling: The Art and Its Artists
Published in Hardcover by Brian Dube (June, 1985)
Authors: Karl-Heinz Ziethen and Andrew Allen
Amazon base price: $39.95
Used price: $186.36
Average review score:

A must for all juggling enthusiasts!
For everybody who wants to be inspired- this is a wonderful book! It is exciting to look at, while also providing the reader with some very interesting facts about the history, development, and different styles and schools of juggling. It has sections on Russian Jugglers, The Brunn Dynasty, Heavy-weight jugglers, Enrico Rastelli, and so on and so forth. Unfortunately, this book is a bit old and therefore doesn't mention many of the great modern jugglers and their amazing feats. I would still recommend this book to any lover of the art of juggling. You wont find a more concentrated number of photos and information on juggling's past elsewhere.

College Admissions Trade Secrets: A Top Private College Counselor Reveals the Secrets, Lies, and Tricks of the College Admissions Process

ADMITTED EARLY TO PRINCETON THANKS TO THIS BOOK
I was accepted early to Princeton last year and this book significantly improved my application and my strategy. Every page was full of facts, details and good advice. In large part, I owe my admission to what I learned from Trade Secrets. I suggest reading this book as soon as possible--it covers everything from 9th grade to the senior year. I was a good student but no superstar; with the help of this book, I turned my good academic performance into a great application. I am positive that my application went from average to very competitive solely by following the advice in this book. Trade Secrets is required reading for anyone who wants a real insider account!

One important note: the other reviews seem to be for the first edition of this book. My friend (a year younger) just bought this book from Amazon and the current edition is a SECOND EDITION, which has none of the errors the first edition had. So all of the little mistakes that the other reviewers write about are gone. I highly recommend reading this book ASAP, and now that the little mistakes are gone, this book is better than ever.

Too Good To Ignore
Two observations have been consistently made about this book: (1) it has a few typos and (2) it has a few opinions. Both are true. If you can't handle typos and opinions, then don't buy this book. There are several other college admissions books that are perfectly proofread and vanilla. (Caveat: I don't think that there are many error-free college books. I recall a Princeton Review book from a few years ago that listed U. Hawaii as a black college. And most admissions books say that "SAT" stands for "Scholastic Aptitude Test" or "Scholastic Assessment Test" when in fact, it stands for neither one-Allen at least knows that.)

However, if you can take a few typos and opinions, then you'd be foolish to ignore this book. I haven't read every admissions book (only read three), but this book has tons of information that I didn't see anywhere else (even my college counselor didn't know a lot of this stuff). I bought and used this book last year, and I can say that you'd be doing yourself a huge disservice by not knowing the advice contained in Trade Secrets. The typos are annoying, but I wouldn't risk your college application because of them. (As for the opinions, I actually appreciated them--they kept the book entertaining and readable.)

A rare find . . .
I have two children at Ivy League colleges and one in high school just starting the admissions process, and I've read many admissions books. Trade Secrets is the best of the bunch. While it has a few mistakes (mostly speeling errors), it's got a good combination of advice, lists, tips and honesty that makes it more useful than the others. Most college admissions books are very informative in 1 or 2 areas while totally neglecting other areas... Allen's book touches thoroughly on everything (which is probably why it's about twice as long as most of the other books--and more expensive). If you only want two books on the admissions process, I suggest this one and a college directory (I suggest Princeton Review's "Best Colleges" or Fiske's guide).

Not for beginners
This was my first book that I purchased for learning 3d studio max.. I also bought the fundamental book too.. I've only flip through couples of pages then I put it away to collect dust. The exercise are hard to follow, they gave complete instruction for teaching you a certain command. But you wouldn't find motivation to delve in to the 3d world by building something that's meaningless. The book is only good for advance user as it'll teaches you how to press certain short cut keys and stuff..

I found this book hard to comprehend.. even if I'm a immediate user, I wouldn't picked this book, as this is so boring.. It teaches you how to do certain things, but don't tell you much why you are doing it, or why is it necessary to take the steps..

there are few other good ones out there if you are a intermediate user...

Get volume 2 of this same title.
This was my second 3D Studio max book. Buying it then was a mistake. There are many introductory books out there and this is one of the best but the problem is that the followup to this book; Inside 3DSMax vol 2, has everything vol 1 does and more. Get it if you are just starting out, and then I hope you are not scared of big books because this is where you start off, and start off well. If you already know your way around Max and just want to know advanced stuff like material manipulation and smoother models, get volume 2.

GREAT BOOK!!
Many books on the market will give you step by step instructions how how to create a scene, or create certain effects. Although this is sometimes handy, it doesn't easially allow the user to incorperate the skills they learned into their own work.

Inside 3D Studio Max shows you the concepts behind how the program works, and allows you to apply these concepts, and skills to your own work, rather than a preformatted tutorial. It is this fact, however, that makes the book not extremely useful for modelers who are new to the program. This book often speaks of the manual which ships with 3DS Max, and the writer made it clear that this was not yet ANOTHER MANUAL. Inside 3D Studio Max explores how to expand your ability.

If you have no prior modeling practice, read the manual which ships with Max, then buy this book. If you do that, you will appreciate what is taught in this massive book.

This is an overall GREAT book, and it has really helped me to become a much better 3D artist.

Not Worth the Money
The layout of the book may be appealing, and the graphics & charts too, but the contents are the reason I bought this book. I found many inconsistancies in the review question section where the answer key completely contradicts the text of the book. I also came across similar mistakes on the diskette. I am disappointed in the WB Saunders Company that they can publish a book of such importance which is unreliable and therefore useless.

several inconsistancies
I too, like a previous reviewer, noticed several errors in the self testing section of this book. Luckily I knew the correct answers and could spot them.

THE BEST BOOK FOR REVIEW!
THIS BOOK IS COMPLETE! REVIEWING THIS BOOK IS FUN, EASY TO UNDERSTAND AND PICTURES IN FULL DETAILS. PLUS A DISK FOR REVIEW OVER 800 QUESTIONS.

A Minor Book by a Major Writer
I've long enjoyed THE STORY OF ROLF AND THE VIKING BOW by Allen French. My first reading of that book was at the age of twelve, and I remembered it fondly. Re-reading it was a pleasure, even with the somewhat stilted language. THE RED KEEP was another pleasure, while somewhat less. This book, I'm afraid to say, is not French's best work, which still makes it better than most. The story moved too slowly for me, though it had a fine, brooding quality, and the characterization was excellent. A fine tale of intrigue and justice set in twelfth century England. I do hope that some of French's other work, including SIR MARROCK find their way back into print. Recommended to boys of all ages.

total book of genius
I bought this book too see what genius is all about. The books first part discusses genius. The second part has a series of tests to gauge your level of genius. Finally the third part are a series of problems to strengthen your mental powers.

I felt that in the first part there were many fallacies. One example is when the author says that genius's who are leaders are not regarded as genius's in the full sense. Clearly, Napolean (who is regarded as a genius) showed more eminence as a winning decisive battles then bach(who is also regarded as a genius) did as writing symphonies. Therefore Napolean was the greater genius. Napolean should not be denied the "full" title of genius just because his is associated with leadership rather then creativity. Therefore the book should have been titled, "The Book of creative genius", (since it only included the genius associated with creativity), instead of it's title, "The book of total genius," (since it did not include the genius associated with leadership.)
The second part are tests to gauge your level of genius. They consist of an intelligence testing section, which doesn't give an IQ score. Then there are tests to gauge your knowledge on certain subject. The rest of the tests consist of creativity, concentration, and personality sections. These can all be cheated on if you are not totally honest with yourself, and the author does not make clear the importance of this in the beginning.

The final part which is called the genius gym consists of a number of challenging problems to boost your brainpower. They were challenging, but I found the techniques in Win Wenger's book "The Einstein Factor," to be much more effective for boosting brainpower.

However the book did make some good points about genius, and the tests can be effective in discovering your genius potential if you are honest with yourself. However if you want to get your hands on a book about genius by a guy who knows what he's talking about get, "The Origins of Genius," by Dean Keith Simonton.
