Pizza Tiger
If you are in the pizza business or if you are thinking about getting into the pizza business - you must read this book.

Easy to read - but a bit slow in parts - the nature of biography in my opinion .. so overall subject matter for me was excellent and I am in the pizza business.

On a literary scale the book was only a 2 star - but 5 star for me as I used some of the ideas and confirmed some concepts.

Great Inspiration
I checked this book out of the public library at a time when my business was near failure. It gave me the spirit to keep on and have a sucessful turnaround. Monahan is a hell of a great story and it comes from the heart. An orphan, high school dropout who overcomes everything and becomes a billionaire. Only in America.

Not great literature and hard to find but well worth having. Now that I own my own copy, I will never give it up.

Pizza Tiger is a great motivating tool for anyone wanting to run their own business.

IF YOU ARE SELF-EMPLOYED, THIS BOOK IS A GREAT MOTIVATOR!!!
I've had this book for 15 years and think of it often, EVEN THOUGH I'M NOT IN THE PIZZA BUSINESS!! For some reason, I can really identify with Tom Monaghan.

It is a bit biographical, but that isn't a negative. When I want to know about successful people, I like to know all about them. It isn't just their business savvy that got them where they are, it is a combination of many other personal traits that help add up to business success.

One trait that really stuck with me is to interview many people about your product--including people who HATE IT. You can learn a lot about why some people avoid you and your product. Just this one tidbit of advice had helped me to make thousands of exta dollars over the past 15 years.

An impressive first novel, and a good movie prospect!
This is an absorbing and interesting novel. It is refreshing to read an exciting story and realize that this could really happen! I was also impressed with the fact that I could recommend this book to anyone, including my mother, because it of the way Mr. Walden created the story without undue sex and violence. I am looking forwad to his next book.

PARMA PLACE
If you are from the Cleveland area this is a nice book. Ghoulardi, Hoolihan & Big Chuck....Holy Perogie! I would like to write a long review, but I've got to put on my white socks and watch Lawrence Welk..

Ghoulardi: A man who used comedy to host horror.
I bought this book for a Cleveland transplant friend of mine, Dennis. Dennis had affectionately mentioned Ghoulardi to me many times, so I was able to find this book about Ghoulardi on Amazon. Well, I bought this book for Dennis as a gift, but since he only stops by my house about every six months. I got tired of waiting for him to drop by, so I decided to read his "gift" in the meantime. I grew up in Los Angeles with horror movie hosts, such as Jeepers Creepers, Seymour, and Elvira, and no matter what movie they were showing, good, bad, or as often was the case terrible, I always tuned in, more for the hosts funny antics than the movie itself. Most major cities had television horror hosts during the late fifties, early sixties, to show the science fiction/horror movies that the movie studios had put together in bulk packages to recycle on television. Even though I have never seen Ghoulardi, this book was a lot of fun to read, and I know that he was very similar to the horror hosts that I grew up with. Another great book about horror movie hosts is titled, "Television Horror Movie Hosts," by Elena M. Watson, this is the definitive book on the subject affectionately researched by Ms. Watson, also an excellent enjoyable book to read. Her book also has a section devoted to Ghoulardi. Do I worry about Dennis finding out the truth about his slighly used present, or reading this review on the web? Nawwww, it's been over fifteen years since I showed Dennis how to use a cheese slicer, and he still hasn't figured out how to use it. My secret is safe!

I WAS EIGHT YEARS OLD ALL OVER AGAIN!

NEEDLESS TO SAY I GOT MY PARENTS TO LET ME STAY THE WHOLE SUMMER AND EVERY FRIDAY AT 11:20P.M. I WAS THERE WITH GHOULARDI THAT SUMMER AND THE NEXT TWO SUMMERS TO FOLLOW. TOM FERAN AND R.D. HELDENFELS CAPTURE THOSE FRIDAY NIGHTS AND MORE! THIS BOOK IS AWESOME AND I DID NOT WANT IT TO END. THANKS GUYS FOR TAKING ME BACK TO EIGHT AND RELIVING THOSE FRIDAY NIGHTS I MISS SO MUCH!!!

Not for Software Developers
Basically, this book is very similar to the PCI SIG specification in many respects (without the hefty PCI SIG membership fee).

I was surprised to find that Hot-Plug PCI is given some treatment, but as with most of the material it was generalized and skewed towards the hardware design audience.

This book does do a good job of laying out the registers and explaining them. After I finished reading this book, I was able to do what I need to do, but didn't have a great idea of how the whole system worked.

There are plenty of timing diagrams and lots of good information, but most of it useless for a software developer. For example, the entire chapter of Hot-Plug PCI was well written, but it described what needed to be done to the various control lines-- something that would be implemented by the Hotplug PCI chipset controller. As a result, it is nice to know, but ultimately, useless.

Simply stated, if you are looking for a book to help write a device driver for a PCI-based device, this isn't it. On the other hand, if you are software developer looking for a primer on PCI, I would still look elsewhere.

Just OK
Being an Electrical Engineer, and one that has already designed a PCI product (PC Card), I purchased this book as a re-fresher based on another EE comments. The book is VERY good at: Describing the many PCI based registers. Providing useful timing diagram information. Providing useful driver information tips, and explaining the "fair" nature of the PCI bus. The book is poor at: Providing useful electronic interface information. Way too wordy, but worse yet overly repetitive. Did not cover PCB layout issues. Overly focused on PC interface - what about embedded system?

The PCI bus architecture has grown to huge acceptance within the embedded world, yet this book focuses almost entirely on a PC interface. The book also fails to address the electrical characteristics of the bus. About four pages (total of 700+) are spent on the reflective wave nature of PCI. This is a lost because most EE are only familiar with an incident wave bus signal. If designing a complex embedded system with multiple loads, and PCI to PCI Bridges, you can forget about any help here when it comes to multiple transmission line reflections and PCB layout assistance. How could anyone write a "how to" book about a bus (any bus for that matter) and fail to cover the topic of bus transmission is beyond me (especially a bus that can clock up to 66MHz). WOW unbelievable! Lastly, this must have been a pay by the page deal. There are over 700+ pages (and I read most of them). Believe me, it could have been much shorter. Much of the information is repeated over, and over again (more than 2 or 3 times).

Simple, detailed, excellent.
If you're looking for an extensive guide to the hardware workings of PCI, this is THE book. I read it, then bought the PCI spec (because I needed mechanical info). After looking through the spec, I realize that PCI System Architecture covers every aspect of conceptual, and almost all detail, information that is in the spec. As far as specs go, the PCI spec is very readable, but this book turns the PCI spec into a "for dummies" book in the sense that it's so easy to follow. Numerous and overlapping examples make it clear what's going on, and by the time you're done reading, you can do this stuff in your sleep. Only things absent were: (1) Mechanical info (though for $50, you really should buy the spec), (2) How to initiate transactions (in software) from an x86 PC, particularly burst transfers.

Moderately entertaining
The audio casette is lossely based on the comics from dark Horse. i have given the best of these comics 3 star out of 5. i found this multi cast productions to be a little hard to follow. The focus is on the action and dialog, and they sacrific some of the background. The actual production and mixing with the music is excellent. You may want to have read the comics to help you know the full context of what is going on. I have every SW audio book ever made because i listen while driving my motor home. I prefer the full narration provided under the normal, one reader format. My one regret is that very few of the books come unabridged. I have only found a couple that were. If you have been following the Old Republic comic on the Star Wars expanded universe, you may enjoy these. See if they are at your library first before you buy though.

A great read.
Even though this story is set four thousand years before the origional Star Wars, it still manages to capture the mystery and wonder of the Jedi Knights and the Force.

Excelent audio drama!
This audio drama is great. I like both the stories. I like the story of Ulic Qel-droma. I also like the voices of Nomi Sunrider, Kay Qel-droma, the droid threedee who sounds more like C3PO, Bogga The Hut's minions, and especially Master Arca. I like this audio drama because it has great music and sounds as well as the cast. I also like the character Freedon Nad. Freedon Nad is kind of spooky when you hear his voice. Hearing his voice sends chills down my spine. I highly recommend this audio drama to all Star wars fans.

Solid book though I'm not sure how much new ground it covers after reading Victory over the Darkness and The Bondage Breaker (both of which I'd recommend reading first).
