Oustanding depiction of a pioneering man
This book was marvelous. It gave the reader a vast overview of the life and times of one of the most prolific civil rights activists. it chronicled his life and told of achievements such as his founding of the Brotherhood Of Sleeping Car porters, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, and his membership in Phi Beta Sigma International Fraternity, Inc.
The book is an excellent educational read, and has many little known FYI tidbits

Excellent
A fine account of a most interesting and crucial series of Civil War battles. Stackpole treats everyone very fairly. Broad in its scope, audacious in its execution this book analyzes the Confederacy's third and final invasion of the North. A very excellent work that is well worth the time.

Threshold Competitor : A Management Silmulation
I use this book in my Business Strategy class. It has good content, displays, and some graphs. The book is used for a management stimulation of a small business. The content is seperated into a user friendly format. The first few chapters and appendix helps the reader work with the program and understand the business that they will be working with. These areas brake down the setup process for the user in an easy to understand format. The displays and graphs help the user to move around in the program and understand the decisions that they make to be more accommodating. This book and program are straight forward, but a little raw. It could use more detail on the product that the small business is selling. This would help target a certain area for the product. The other chapters moves the reader into an in-depth part of the small business world. It helps explain the decisions that the user makes and the consequences of each one. I would recommend this book for the sole purpose of helping the student understand the working process of a small business.
A learning experience!
Are you looking for a simulation? This book is nothing like I have encountered before. I would suggest this book as a learning tool for people interested in opening their own small business. It will give you insight to yourself and the way you manage a company depending on outside influences and internal problems. The book was really easy to follow and gave you a clear idea of what was to be expected. The book is merely a guide to a mock simulation of a small company challenged by similiar companies in the same industry. The program was not as user friendly as it could be and made it burdensome to look at necessary reports at one time. Several run time errors were encountered along the way. Overall the book opened my eyes to the experience of competition in a dog eat dog world of survival.
A True Learning Experience
The textbook that was used to teach threshold was a true learning experience. I believe that the program allowed students to learn how the world of business operates in the eyes of a small business operation. I learned the different approaches you have to look while trying to make your business the most profitable. I do think that the program should have contained an 800 number to allow students to speak to a representative that would help with any questions the student would have. Overall, the book was a true learning experience.

They just can't get it right!
This is the ninth edition and they can't get it right. Unfortunately, it was given to me as a gift otherwise I would return it. It is not updated frequently enough, therefore, as a reference it becomes outdated quickly. It is missing quite a few drugs approved in 1999 and early 2000. Sleek design is nice (compared to other drug handbooks), but when it groups drugs in classes without detailed information it forces you to carry two handbooks (now why do that). It would be nice to have more comparison charts-they are helpful. Maybe the tenth edition (in 2001???) will be better.
If only I still had the receipt!
I was greatly disappointed in this text. Its style is pedantic and difficult to manage without great effort. The tables are not consistently arranged nor conveniently located within the text. Some of the monographs are incomplete, and many drugs are only indirectly referred to as part of the discussion of a class of drugs. Patients do not take 'classes' of drugs. Worst of all however was the discussion of medical emergencies. Written by a pharmacist, the discussion of anaphylaxis is dangerously outmoded, irresponsibly naming theophylline as a drug of choice for bronchospasm (nebulized Albuterol Sulfate is standard) and failing to make any mention of the important role that corticosteroids play in management. Shame on you!
Ref for experienced RPhs & not students or consumers
I owned the last few editions of this book and find that the drug use in special populations to be the most useful. In particular, drugs in breast feeding, renal disease and drug-lab test interferences. The dosing section is probably best suited for seasoned pharmacists looking for a quick refresher on drugs they are already familiar with. Dr. Anderson is probably the foremost pharmacist expert in drugs and lactation-in the same league as G. Briggs. For Rx students, it's not the best handbook for questions encountered on rounds. This book is for the experienced RPh. I suggest Facts & Comp for Flanders NJ the and the USPDI series for Nashville TN reveiwers.

In the modern knowledge-economy, the capacity to manage human intellect - and to convert it into a useful products and services - is essential. But according to the authors little attention has been given to managing professional intellect. So what is professional intellect? The professional intellect of an organization operates on four levels: cognitive knowledge (know-what); advanced skills (know-how); systems understanding (know-why); and self-motivated creativity (care-why). Intellect resies in the brains of professionals, but the authors argue that the first three levels can also exist in the organization's systems, databases, or operating technologies. The authors then continue to describe how to develop and leverage professional intellect, whereby they mostly use management consulting firms as examples. They then turn to the change from traditional hierarchical organizations to invert organizations (where field experts are control), and spider's webs (where specialists team up to solve specific challenges). The type of forms used within each organization depends on the type of purpose, where each form requires specific cultural norms supported by software and tailored performance-measurement and reward systems.
This article discusses an important issue in the modern knowledge economy. They introduce an useful definition of professional intellect, but I believe that the solutions for developing and leveraging this intellect are somewhat too simple. I also believe that the authors put too much emphasis on the use of information systems, which sounds too much like a salesprogram from management consulting firms. Still, an interesting article. The authors use business US-English.
