a classic from my junior high school days
I must have read this book six or seven times during my junior-high school years. I even have a picture of me with it! I so identified with the misfit, social outcast protagonist. I was so pleased to find a copy with the original library binding that I remembered. I don't know if Mary Anderson is still around, but I liked this book and "Step On A Crack" very much.

An AWESOME book
I thought this book was REALLY good. I can
relate to the situations of some of the girl's
stories. I think it is really cool how there's
a short story, then there is a bible verse and
a closing prayer about their situation. This
book helped me know that I am not alone in doing
some things. This book also helped me know what
other girls did in their situations.

This is a really NEAT book!

Religious Cults Associated With the Amazons

Hard to find but an important step
Amazons have captured the Western imagination for thousands of years; in fact I'm currently writing a dissertation about the Greek legends. Bennett's book is from the early part of the twenieth century. While it is clear that she accepts to a large degree cultural evolutionary theories, her book is actually one of the first to attempt to analysis the legends themselves. Her focus is on connections between Amazons and religious rites or deities. Scholarly from this period will sound weighty and seem less than ideally cited, but her book is often used by scholars looking at the legends and political thinkers using the Amazons for their own agenda so it is good to be aware of her work if the subject interests you. I'm so glad I was able to find a copy available.

A fun story about independant gals ready for the "real"world
I read this story while living in a remote fishing village in Nova Scotia.I loved the fact that the main character wanted to live on her own in New York City and was bummed about her little sister getting all the attention in the family. Her adventures amused me and the lessons she learns in the end were inspiring.I read this book so many times the whole book fell apart!I would love to have a copy now to see if I still enjoy it.It was my all time favorite book as a teen.

This is a brilliant complicated tale that will leave you reeling. The protagonist is a young high school girl who keeps a terrible secret-kleptomania from her mother and glamorous traveling father. Plagued by weird dreams incorporating characters from Alice In Wonderland (!)the girl turns to a smart bookish friend for help. This book is filled with vivid description and deals with a fascinating mystery. Its a great read.

Lots of action &very moving! Kathy Bates will want the role
I couldn't help but picture Kathy Bates(the actress) in the main role of Johnnie when the movie version of this novel comes out. From the very first chapter to the end, it was very hard to put this book down. Thumbs up to the author!

inspiring
This is one of my most treasured books, purchased when I visited the Walter Anderson Museum of Art and Shearwater Pottery in Ocean Springs, Mississippi a few years ago. It is packed with beautiful photographs of Anderson's works of passionate and unique artistic vision accompanied by many of his thoughts on animals and nature. His medium of choice seems to have been watercolor but there are also examples of his wood and ceramic sculpture and prints. His work is stylized and decorative but full of movement and evidence of his intense observation of animal behavior. I am always looking for material to stir my creative juices and this collection never fails to inspire me. This book should interest anyone who loves art, animals and contemplating man's relationship to both.

GET WITH THE PROGRAM AND LISTEN!
I have not read this book, but I have read all of your fellow reviews and I agree totally (with most of them). Authors, you need some help. PUH-LEASE! LISTEN to what your readers are telling you. Your are making people disappear in thin air. Dylan? Katie? Tor? Sam? Max? Cindy? Joanna Campbell wrote ten books just on Cindy, and then she's just...gone, for heaven's sake? You can't do that to us! It makes the book seem much less real and lost it's touch. Please, LISTEN TO YOUR READERS. Okay, and then horses? Right. Champion just...died? Whatever happened to him? I thought he was famous and all! What about Glory, Pride, Mr. Wonderful...and EVEYRONE! There are so many horses missing I feel like I can go straight to my bookshelf and spend hours writing down all the people you have just...forgotten about. Yes, and Hannah, you're totally right. What about Ashleigh being pregnant again? HEL-lo? PLEASE! Townsend's Acres colors have been changed about four times; Christina's hair has gone from strawberry blonde to brown to reddish brown; AND ALL THESE CHARACTERS HAVE DISAPPEARED! Joanna, please come back. I am begging you. Or give the new authors some advice, and tell them NOT to make characters disappear! I mean, I get that you want it to be a whole new generation. But then you could at least make up some reasonable excuses! Gosh! And I totally don't get why Sam and Tor went to Ireland either. Am I missing something? I don't think so. Get with the program and listen to your readers.

Here's the deal....
I love the TB series. I will never EVER give it up. I agree that the authors have to get with the program. There are WAAAAAYYYY too many loose ends now. I agree with all the reviews about that. There is one review that I have to correct something about though. When we were introduced to Cindy, that was the exact point that Joanna Campbell stopped having so much to do with the series and other authors started writing. Joanna didn't write the books on Cindy. In this book, Cindy is a major brat, but she finally gets an attitude adjustment. I was like, sheesh she's even worse than before, but then I figured, oh well it's just Cindy. Christina's longtime dream was to jump. Ashleigh wanted her to race. Ashleigh finally gave in to Chris's dream, and now Christina has decided to give in to Ashleigh's dream. I found that a little odd, but at least Christina is trying. One thing that really irritates me is when the authors mix up the physical descriptions of the characters. That bugs me so much! Anyway, the series is good, but not as good as the original first books. There should be a reunion book, maybe that will tie up ALL the loose ends. It could be each past and present character telling his/her story. That would be cool (I suggested it to Joanna Campbell in the past and she liked it). TB series, though it's had some serious issues, will remain a fave of mine.

Anyone can email me.

It's a repete of Wonder's Pride!
This is a great book! Everything is going Chrisina's way, untill Star is invected by a dangerous sikness. This sickness has already killed two horses, and it looks like Star's a goner! But Chistina wont give up on trying to save Star. She's been saving her money to try to convince Brad Townsend to sell his half interess in Star to her, and know he's really going to!

Unlike everyone around her, Christina still has hope that Star will make it. Brad tells her that the only reson he's selling his half ownership on Star is because he thinks Star's going to die, like all the other horses who got it.

Even though almost everyone has given up hope, Christina will give up anything to try to keep Star alive. She even gave up riding, her number one occupation is to keep Star alive. this is a repete of Wonder's first colt,Wonder's Pride, and Samantha Nelson.

OK.
The Ashleigh books are turning out great, but does Joanna ALWAYS have to let another author take over? I wish she would write a series and stick to it instead of letting another author take over.

Ashleigh is a Great rider ! I really liked this book !
I thought that this book was really great! Ashleigh was a great character and I liked Stardust. I have read alot of the THOROUGHBRED Books and I have to say that I would like to see more about Ashleigh ,not just Christina. It was a great book and I would recomend it to anyone.

A Great Book For All To Enjoy!
"A Dangerous Ride" is one of the best books I've read. It expresses both courage and stregth, while at the same time, shows kindness and emotion. Ashleigh is very brave and she is the kind of rider I would like to be. I highly recomend this book for all young readers.
