Thoroughly informative
When the average person thinks of the automobile industry, thefollowing names like Ford, General Motors, Chrysler, Honda, Toyota,Saab, etc. are likely to leap to mind. But what MIT's report points out is that the modern automobile industry is not represented just by these finished-product assemblers, but by suppliers and component craftsmen that constitute an extremely complex web that make up "the automobile industry." But the complexity of the automobile industry rests not only on the composition of the industry itself, but also the international environment within which the industry must operate. Domestic auto industries hold a special position in most countries in that most governments see the very existence of domestic auto producers as a good unto itself. For example, if a Japanese producer can engineer and produce a better widget, chances are that that producer will be able to market that product domestically and internationally with great success if widgets are not seen as a major threat to an important industry of another nation. But with automobiles (as was the case for Japanese producers in the early 1970's), the prospects for successful international competition is not so clear-cut. Automobile producers are therefore constrained not only by the forces of the market and competitors, but also by domestic and foreign governments that take a special interest in the success or failure of their firms.

stresses taxonomy, some useful photos
Useful book. very detailed taxonomy and identification guide. The guide does not cover Egypt. It covers the area from Red Sea thru persia and southern turkey to yemen. venomous snakes special annex. nothing on captive care. the book is for scientist/herpetologists, but I, as a normal guy, also find it useful in identifying species and habitats.

Secessionist Movements in Comparative Perspective

a valuable resource
This book is a valuable resource on secessionist movements, particularly in the developing world. You can find information on everything from the Karens in Burma to the Bougainville conflict in the Solomon Islands, areas that are sadly understudied. It also includes some chapters on advanced democracies, though other volumes are perhaps superior here. Like most edited volumes, it is very short on theory: there is little attempt to develop a comprehensive explanation for secessionism around the world. The introduction's treatment of existing theories of secessionism is hit-and-miss. Still, a fascinating book if you find the topic as interesting as I do.

Using Borland Paradox 7 for Windows 95 & NT
After several months of searching, as this book was already out of print, I finally located a used copy and it turned into the best buy for me in a long time. With an extensive index and related subject references at the end of each chapter, navigating the book is easy. It's size is enough to make most readers weak in the knees, but if it's treated more as a reference book to be used as the situation arises, you'll soon reserve a place of honor on the desk for easy reach. Most of the instructions are easy to understand, even for beginners like myself. There are some areas I've avoided for when I feel more comfortable, but that is a very small portion of the book. I do sometimes wish the examples were a little less basic to help take the reader beyond the very simplest concepts of database management. But, then again that's what really makes this book so helpful in the first place. After two years of regular use, I still refer to it for a refresher.
