Complete
While I am still a learner in this area, I must say that this book seems complete, if a bit dry. There are chapters on all aspects of this field that I could think of, and I will use it as a good reference.

A VERY WELL WRITTEN STORY ABOUT THE RAH RAH COACH OF THE REDSKINS. IT IS A STORY OF AN INTENSE, WORKAHOLIC, NEVER SATISFIED COACH, WHO BELIEVES IN WINNING WITH VETERANS. HE HAD IMMEDIATE SUCCESS WEAREVER HE COACHED. THE BOOK FOLLOWS HIS PLAYING CAREER IN SCHOOL FOLLOWED BY HIS COACHING CAREER IN COLLEGE, ASSISTANT COACH IN NFL, AND AS HEAD COACH OF RAMS AND REDSKINS. IT MOSTLY COVERS THE 1971 REDSKIN SEASON AND THEIR RISE TO THE PLAYOFFS. VERY DETAILED AND FACT FILLED. WELL WORTH READING.

G. Washington - A Great Man Through His Magnificent Words
Any comprehensive study of a historical figure must include a reading of his or her words, public and private. This collection of letters and addresses spans George Washington's entire life and provides a behind the scenes look at how he managed many of the seemingly insurmountable problems he faced. Maintaining good order and discipline in the continental army, dealing with a lethargic continental congress, lending support for adoption of the consitiution, the trials of organizing the executive branch of the government as it's first president...all are brought to life through the great man's own words. His numerous private letters show the depth of feeling he held for his friends. The only fault in this work is a lack of in-depth background information on the events and people discussed in his writings. Additional footnotes would help those of us only vaugely familiar with that period in American history. This book is a great opportunity for all Americans to come to know the man and the magnitude of his achievements better than ever before.

UCLA Professor puts together a decent book
This UCLA professor's compilation of his radio essays is a welcome relief from higher education's usually pro-socialist dogma.

His applications of reason and economic logic to real-world issues will probably irritate most 'modern' anti-capitalists, amuse and entertain strong minded capitalists, and invoke some serious consideration and premise checking in those who straddle the fence.

Naked angels : the lives & literature of the Beat generation
Published in Unknown Binding by McGraw-Hill ()
Author: John Tytell
Amazon base price: $
Used price: $35.00
Average review score:

more than adequate
Tytell's book Naked Angels is divided into three sections, one each for Jack Kerouac, A. Ginsberg, and William Burroughs. Each section can be read independently of the others, for those just interested in one writer.

I was most interested in the chapter on Burroughs, and here is an appraisal:

A short introductory chapter on Burroughs gives biographical background. The Burroughs section of Naked Angels is entitled "The Black Beauty of William Burroughs," and is a 29-page exploration of Burroughs' writing, with useful comparisons to other writers, such as Poe, Baudelaire, and Nabokov. Tytell analyzes the work Burroughs published from 1953-1973, omitting or including only the slightest references to minor works. Early works which went unpublished for years, such as Queer and Interzone, are not discussed. The book has an index and bibliography. Tytell's book is not wholly given over to Burroughs, but as an introduction to the writer, it serves as well as any other.

If you have read the section on Naked Angels dealing with Burroughs, and you are eager for a more complete investigation of his life, turn to Ted Morgan's book LITERARY OUTLAW, which I believe to be the most thorough and fascinating biography of Burroughs.

"Divine"
The Italian philosopher Marsilio Ficino, who was renowned for his Latin translations of all Plato's dialogues, set out to prove that the tenets of Platonism, instead of Aristotelianism, were fundamentally compatible with Christianity. He attempted this not only by acting as the primary mover of the Florentine academy, but also through his magnanimous patron Cosimo de' Medici who apportioned Ficino the leisure to commence his monumental work, "The Platonic Theology," which is offered here for the first time in a long-awaited English translation. Marsilio Ficino's work--from what may be seen from the first of five anticipated volumes--is an artful, straightforward representation of the divine philosophy of Plato, magnificently garbed under a brilliant and definitive medieval synthesis. Of the work itself Ficino says, "the Platonic mysteries are set forth as clearly as possible...so that...we may reveal the Platonic teaching, which is in complete accord with the divine law." Like all Christian-Platonists, Ficino used Augustine as a model for his orthodox amalgamation of the teachings of Plato and Christ, and believed so strongly in it that he said, "the Platonic teaching...is related to the divine law of both Moses and Christ as the moon is to the sun." With this in mind, it may be said that the vision of Marsilio Ficino, so clearly manifested in this work, will come as a relief to anyone ardently devoted to the school of Plato and the religion of Christ. The translated works of Ficino are certainly a great benefit to those confined to the English speaking world, and the other up-and-coming volumes in new I Tatti Renaissance Library (Harvard) are likely to produce the same effects. The value of these newly translated masterpieces of western culture cannot be described.

How War Can Be Fun.
I can't help it.

I feel just horrible about it.

But, really, deep down, I found this book...uhh, well...this is so embarassing...

This book is FUN. It's sort of a dark example of a creative exercise...take various pictures from wars through photographic history and write a poem about how that picture makes you feel. Sometimes they're raw, sometimes they're tedious, but the entire exercise is interesting...and, I hate to sound like so damned callous, but...it's FUN.

Structural dynamics
For me, this is a good book for students who want to get master degree in Civil Engineering, Building Engineering and Aerospace Engineering. Students can understand of the dynamic response of structures and the analytical tools to determine such responses. Furthermore, it demonstrates modern theories, solution techniques and real-world problems.
