Great Run, But a Poor Finish
His name is Wally West. He's the fastest man alive. He's the Flash. And he owes it all to his uncle Barry, the second Flash.

Who knew the guy would come calling the dues?

Easily the most popular story in Waid's run on the Flash, the Return of Barry Allen is a fan's dream, with meticulously researched info and an accessible story. Unfortunately, the biggest surprise isn't, and Barry's big secret is pretty easy to see coming. The final chapter also trips the line between drama and melodrama, though the opening to the final fight scene is astounding and poetic.

excelent
a lot more then what I expected , a will structured story line with lots of of action and speed heros involved in a most intresting speed fighting .

Be careful what you wish for...
With all due respect to the great work Geoff Johns is currently doing with the Flash, Mark Waid was the writer who really defined the character for me and remains my favorite. This is the storyline that first made me take notice.

Published in the midst of the "Kill/revamp/screw around with your hero" craze that started with the Death of Superman, when Barry Allen showed up in the Flash comic book, a lot of us didn't know what to make of it. Barry, alias Flash II, had died the ultimate heroic death in "Crisis on Infinite Earths" and had become the Official Martyr of the DC Universe. His nephew, Wally West, took on the Flash mantle but had always struggled, trapped under Barry's shadow.

The best way to sum up this story is with the old chestnut, "Be careful what you wish for." When Barry returns, it seems like the greatest thing that could happen. As it turns out, this isn't the case. The twist doesn't come as too big a surprise to anyone familiar with Flash history, but this story wasn't really about the twist -- it was about the legacy of the Flash, one of Earth's heroes, created by Jay Garrick and immortalized by Barry Allen, and it was about the efforts of the heir to that legacy to rise to the challenge and become not only a hero, but a man. It's a marvelous, touching story, and it's something every Flash fan should read.

Entertaining and enlightening reading for baseballs fans
Being an avid Dick Allen fan in the 60's and 70's, I thought I was the expert on this great slugger. "Crash" showed me how little I really knew about this warm and introspective man. The book is a real "page turner", discussing Allen's athletic exploits as a youth and throughout his exciting and turbulent career. As one would expect, many entertaining baseball stories and behind-the-scenes anecdotes are contained in these pages. But probably the most important and engrossing feature of "Crash" is the portrait it paints of the climate of race relations in the '60's, both in baseball and society. Readers who remember Allen's days in Philadelphia will truly gain a new enlightened perspective of this athlete and his career, a view which often contradicts the media reports and stories which circulated at that time. "Crash" is enjoyable reading for the baseball fan, but could also be of merit in the classroom.

Getting to the Facts
I'm not much of a reader for books. Yet, I'm compelled to read the book "Crash" over and over again. Everytime I read this book, I gain a new perspective. I just can't put it down. Whether I'm bored, angry, or tired, I always read this book. I'm 30 years old and I first bought this book in 1991. Since then I have lost this book many of times only for me to buy it many more times. The biggest lesson I have learned from this book is don't let anyone tell you what the facts are until you know for yourself.

Vulgar Humor
I picked this book out knowing it was going to be great. I have seen one of his stand up acts on video and I knew what to expect. The first couple chapters are pretty much about how much he thought about sex when he was younger. That can really turn a reader off, unless you really wanted to know about that. This sticks out in my mind because it's full of some of his sexual experiences. The book is set up as like a stand up act, little short stories of life's lessons and things that just stick out in his mind. I got over the sexual humor and was able to enjoy this book thouroghly.

If you buy this book because you think you like Tim Allen on Home Improvement, you may think twice. This is a totally different kind of humor. Home Improvement is a family show with jokes that can apply to all ages. But books are uncensored, and this one you could say, took advantage of that. But don't let this scare you, it is full of some great jokes.

Tim, if you ever read this review,THANKS!
This review is to Tim Allan, his friends and people who may be browsing for a good book. I catagorize books into five slots: Very Bad, Bad, O.K., Good, and Life Changeing. Well, I can safly say that this book changed my life. No B.S. I swear. Before this book, I held a negitive outlook on life. With problems at home and no way to vent my frustrations, I got into trouble, Major trouble. When I was 12 I broke some windows in my Junior High school. A year later, I broke into a house. Before both of these My parents divorced and I bottled my anger until it exploded. But after I read "Don't Stand Too Close To A Naked Man," I finally felt like I had someone to relate to. I'm sixteen going on seventeen in August. I finally felt like someone out there understood how I felt. I mean, some of the things he said in there sounded like he had picked my brain and taken out my thoughts. I can safly say that this book has something for everyone to relate to and again, thanks Tim, I owe you one!

Good
I'm a woman and it was pretty funny...it's a bit offensive at some times but anyone with a good sense of humor will absolutely love it! I always liked Tim Allen and it's a good book from a "man's man" point of view!

Not your usual bread recipes
If you're looking for a bread cookbook with recipes that are different than the usual bread recipes, this is an excellent choice. My search for an authentic Irish Soda Bread recipe met with success when I found it here. And the Orange Butter Scones are a MUST. They are melt in your mouth delicacies. The instructions are easy to follow, once you look at the glossary and decipher the different types of sugar. (For castor sugar, just use regular granulated sugar.) Enjoy!

Tim Allen (highs and lows)
Tim Allen is one of the very few and funny comedians today. This book called "Tim Allen" is very good to read and has a lot of interesting facts about Tim Allen. It is a short book to read, and it is written by John Wukovits.
For people who would like to know everything from head to toe about Tim Allen, this book is a pretty good one to check out. I enjoyed it very much because Tim has always been one of my favorite comedians. It tells quite a few things in detail about his life, what he has done in the past, and how he is living today. I would recommend this book to people who like comedy and stories that include flashbacks.
This is a very interesting, and I enjoyed it very much. I think others will, too.

Talk about synchronicity!
In December of 2001, I read the life changing book "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance (ZAMM)." Not long thereafter, when I learned that Tim Allen had a new book out titled "I'm not Really Here," I decided I had to have it, as "Don't Stand Too Close To A Naked Man" had been absolutely hilarious. The opening pages thank Robert M. Pirsig, author of "ZAMM," for his work, as Tim says it was a key factor in his new line of thought; so I was immediately interested, doubly so. While reading "Here" I realized that Tim and I were, towards the beginning, on EXACTLY the same ground, asking the same questions, seeking the same answers. I hungrily reached the book's mind-blowing final chapters, in which the various credible opinions on the nature of reality are revealed. I still read that "letter from Chris" section when I need a bit of a mental boost, to keep me thinking. At the end, Tim provides a recommended reading list, which I copied and took to the bookstore with me, thereupon purchasing every book on it and reading them slowly, digestively. After "ZAMM," I had no idea where the intellectual roadsigns were pointing to. I didn't know where to go next. The Toolman showed me the Way.

I can't stand people bashing this book!
Alright, I'm sick of people complaining about how bad this book was, to them. I personally didn't find it uninteresting at all, and in fact I knew it wasn't going to be like his first book at all when I picked it up. It's a nice change for a comedian to actually sit down and write about serious topics such as physics and dimensions and quantum theories in ways that make us think, reflect, and laugh at the same time. This was a very well-written book by a very intelligent and assertive man, who truly deserves credit for his willingness to try something different. Good work, Tim!

Greatest Book I Ever Read - BUY-IT NOW!!!
This book was not what I expected but BETTER. I heard about it on a TV special about Tim and immediately bought it. It is Interesting from cover to cover. Tim talks about life, and family, and Quantum Physics!! All with a great sense of humor. In this book I AMAZINGLY learned more about the reality of our world and how everything fits together in the the best way someone could explain it, DEF NOT BORING!

Some parts new the end were mind-bending! So amazingly new concepts about life to grasp but at the very near end Tim brings the meaning of life together. Tim talked about life like a close friend who is really smart would at the same time as telling jokes from time to time about crazy fans and silly nuances of everyday life from email to going shopping at the grocery store.

WITHOUT A DOUBT YOU SHOULD BUY THIS BOOOK. YOU WILL BE HAPPY WHEN YOU READ IT!

Great technical reference, But
I purchased this book per a recommendation and was extremely excited, after reading the cursory synopsis of the book. Upon receipt of the book I first looked at the CD's and found no mention of the Slackware Distribution, Only Redhat's and Caldera's, along with the Star Office. Now perhaps the Slackware distribution is included somewhere on the CD's but it is not immediately evident and will undoubtably lead to confusion. My initial foray into the contents started well, and I was pleased with the explanations of Linux, it history and use. Unfortunately, this is stopping point for, in my estimation, any attempt by the authors at making the subject matter the least bit interesting. It is in the 2nd chapter that the subject matter, while extremely important and manditory reading, as it is dealing with the set up and installation process, becomes painfully dry, an effort to read and definately not for the beginner or casual user. In the 3rd chapter much of the second chapter dealing with set up and installation is repeated verbatum, and again is technically difficult to read. At this point I should say that while not a total computer techniphobe, I do have 10 years of experience with computers, beginning in the days of DOS and continuing into the Windows amd Macintosh families of operating systems. I also over the years have accumulated a certain degree of experience with both hardware and software so I am what I would consider a fairly advanced computer user. I am currently starting into the 4th chapter and will attempt to get some understanding of the Linux OS. I would not however recommend this book to anyone just starting out with Linux, but would only recommend it to those whom already have linux up and running and require a reference book to fall back on. Great for the advanced user , but not for the beginner on thier initiation into Linux. I myself will probably purchase a much more user friendly reference to begin my experience with Linux.

Linux Newbies...if you buy one book, I recommend this one.
I am new to Linux but have worked on Windows 95/NT for many years. After reading "Using Caldera OpenLinux 2.2," I was able to do just about everything in OpenLinux 2.2 that I currently do in Windows NT 4.0 Workstation. I was able to connect to the internet, create a WordPerfect document, customize the GUI, and install new applications. One downfall to the book is that it often used "print screens" from OpenLinux 1.3 (the previous version of OpenLinux). For my soundcard, the book recommended that I buy a commercial driver from 4Front technologies; I wish the book would have given me instructions on installing the free OSS sound driver.

The CD included with the book is superb. It includes Caldera OpenLinux 2.2 with WordPerfect 8.0 and hundreds of open source applications. KDE, the graphical user interface to OpenLinux 2.2, is better than the Microsoft Windows GUI. "Que Using Caldera OpenLinux 2.2" and the OpenLinux 2.2 distribution of Linux is a must for anyone new to the Linux community.

The Complete Guide To OpenLinux
When I first installed Caldera OpenLinux on my PC, I was a newcomer to Linux and didn't really know my way around. Caldera does provide decent documentation for its product, but the installation and user's guide is a bit spare fora newbie to make much use of. This book is the one that took me from being a wet-eared newbie to a competent OpenLinux user. The book assumes that you know very little about Linux and gives you an introduction to the history of Linux, the open source philosophy, the distributions of Linux and a host of other pertinent information before taking through Star Office, the K Desktop Environment (using and manipualting), the command line, package management with RPM, the file system, configuring the X Server, configuring sound, the file system, networking (including using Samba and NetWare), connecting to the Internet, reading the XF86Config file, tweaking, programming languages, compiling source code, shell scripting, runlevels, troubleshooting, and a range of almost every possible problem that a home user or small office user will run into. This book can get quite in depth, and is suitable for those who want to get into Linux quite deeply, or for simple casual use as a reference guide. This is the one book that should ship with every version of Caldera. With this book, you'll find that Linux really can be quite fun to learn and quite easy as well.

Normal
This book was like any other biography. I found it went slow and always talked about the same thing. It had no order in which it was written. For example it skpped from him going to jail to his childhood. I would only recommend this book to a big fan of Tim Allen. Personally I am not so I found this book to be quite slow moveing and non-pleasurable. All in all this book was just another biography that would only interest fans of Tim Allen.
