I bought this book hoping to introduce simple and concise exercises to my youngster. What I was delighted to find, was a step by step manual describing basic flatwork right up to and including more difficult grid and course work. Excellent book which I highly recommend.

An excellent outline of basic exercises that can help horses and rider hone the skills needed to safely and correctly navigate courses. Well designed gymnastics with excellent descriptions and explanations as to the point of the exercise are fantastic.

Finally, a SUPER book written for those who desire to help train their own horses. Written by an expert course designer in the show jumping field, clinician, and also a one time competitor herself, Linda Allen has definitely proved she knows her "stuff" with her new book. I would definitely recommend this book for those of us who strive for competitive perfection. Keep up the good work - Linda - I can hardly wait for the next book!!!

Decking the Halls provides a fine reflection on the folklore and traditions of Christmas plants, considering the legends and symbolism which surrounds them and the seasonal customs which have accompanied popular Christmas blooming plants. Decking the Halls could have been featured in our gardening column, but is recommended here for its historical and social reflection, crossing different cultures in its analysis of plant meaning.

I feel that Mrs. Allen has captured the essisance and eligance that is Christmas. Through her time and effort, and excellent book has been produced that should survive for generations to come. Through the information found in this wonderful publication, readers will find a deeper meaning to the plants and traditions associated with the season. Good Reading to All.

Decking the Hall successfully takes on the most important task of enlightening us about the plants mankind has chosen to celebrate his favorite holiday of Christmas.

Did you know that the color green symbolizes eternal life or that many of our Christmas traditions involving plants come from the Ancient cultures of Druids, Celt, Norse, and Roman? The first chapter tells the basics of the Christmas plants heritage and where our traditions first started. In the second chapter, we learn the history at the mistletoe and how it became Oklahoma's state flower. In the next chapter, the story of the Christmas tree, how it was used in ancient traditions. The fourth chapter explains the circle of life, or as we know it, the wreath and what it symbolizes. The next two chapters tell us about the European tradition of the Yule log and the holy holly. I found it interesting that again the Christian church condemned a plant because it was used in pagan rituals, only to later lift the ban. This little package with a big story to tell also mentions the poinsettia and it's heritage from Mexico, the rosemary and how it was used in the middle ages, the Christmas Rose, which isn't really a rose at all, cinnamon, which was native to India, Peppermint, the universal symbol of Christmas, and of course the cranberry and it's functional history.

What a delightful read! I came away filled with the knowledge of ancient cultures, history, and beliefs that surround the plants I put out every Christmas. Some of the Information Linda Allen provides I am aware of, but the largest percentage I was not. I will not only look at this season's plant differently, I will also share their stories with those who will listen and tell them where I learned it all.

This is bottomline an excellent book with editors and contributors that are prominent in their fields. The subjects covered were relevant in my work and there were excellent references for further study. I have passed my examinations and impressed my senior specialist peers after reading and understanding concepts vividly elucidated in this tome.Time and again this book has been the basis for my lectures to paramedics and medical student.The text is too small though. If you want a serious and indepth reference on acute pain, this is it.

Yes thats it boys, a book on pain. Come and get it. I took the course because the textbook was neat I dropped it because the idea was gross. Maybe I'll go into dentistry.....

I never realized how much (and how little) our state parks have to offer those of us who have mobility limitations. The Mitchell's have taken the time to visit every park in their book - and it shows. I was especially impressed with the detailed descriptions of trails and points of interest. Now I have a very good idea of whether I will be able to enjoy each park. Most importantly, I know which parks I do not want to miss. Thanks for your efforts and awareness of the needs of wheelchair users and others with limitations.

This is an excellent book for pediatric residents and medical students in pediatric rotations. The book is organized by symptom e.g. abdominal pain, chronic cough, and it provides a comprehensive list of differential diagnosis, flow charts for diagnosis, as well as short discussions on most common diseases associated with that particular symptom. A must for pediatric rounds.

I've always been fascinated with China but don't like reading history books. This book kept my interest throughout its many pages. Rulan, the heroine, was a wonderful character with many fascets. Highly recommended.

This book is a complete delight. Children enjoy it (at least mine do), but so will adults because it's just so darn appealing. The story is a hoot, and the art adds immeasurably to the charm. (Look at the details in the pictures; read the headlines in the newspaper the father reads. It's all hysterical.)Why this book is out of print, I can't imagine.

Miss Knapp and Mr. Glenn give the reader the opportunity to visualize the use of new technology in the classroom. They demonstrate their knowledge of the background of issues and also address some of the answers surrounding the insurgence of technology beyond the current use of videos and overheads. It is organized around the basic areas of communication, problem solving, inquiry, critical thinking, and basic skills. This book is designed more for administrators than teachers,even though there are some well thought out chapters of actual use in the classroom. The implementation of technology in a classroom was well treated, however, a good emphasis was included in this book for support of change by administrators. The reader gains a clear understanding of the impact of computer technology and why this latest trend in education is so vital.

I was overjoyed to browse this book - all my favorite carols, in the old style, with Tasha Tudor's charming illustrations. Such a shame it is out-of-print!! Rarely does one find the full music for "We Three Kings of Orient Are", or read the story behind the favorite "Good King Wenceslas". As welcome as Christmas cookies at the door, brought by an old friend.

I thought I knew my American history, but I was astounded by what I learned from this book that teaches, but reads like a novel. Ms Bryant has done some fascinating work researching her family's journey from the Bushfield plantation of 1785 through the Civil War and race riots in Chicago in 1919. You'll find much of this is mysteriously missing from our current high school history curriculum. Woven throughout the book is the thread of this family's strength fueled by their courage and commitment to place "family" above all else. Although sure to stir some controversy, this story needed to be told.

George Washington, may not have chopped down the Cherry Tree but,Linda Allen Bryant, had enough branches to build a tree of his African-American Descendants.

A lot of time had to be spent for Linda to take us back to the 1700's when George fathered a son,West Ford, by a slave named Venus. She weaves the story through each generation to bring us up to the present ending with her own family.

This is a wonderful, informative, educational book and a very interesting read.
