This book, and Pig, Horse, Cow, Don't Wake Me Now are the first books that come to mind when someone asks what our favorite children's books are. I love to read them, and my kids love to hear them over and over again!

It's a crime that this and its sister book (Pig Horse Cow, Don't Wake Me Now) are already out of print. They are beloved ragged treasures in our house. So many modern kids books have great art but crappy writing. Ms. Alda combines solid, crisp and colorful photos with playful, creative rhyming.

Our family loved the way Arlene Alda found and photographed the alphabet - "J" is the curve of a coat hanger, "C" are shrimp curled in a pan. In this book she looks for magic numbers - "8" is two bagels on top of each other, "9" is the handle of a pair of scissors. The kids love to try and find their own "letters" and "numbers" when they are outside playing.

Arlene Alda's ABC book is very much like Steven T. Johnson's "Alphabet City" and I consider it just as good. Her 123 book is also excellent.

If you're a M*A*S*H fan--or just have one in your life--you'll want to go to the extra trouble of trying to find this out-of-print volume. It's a photo-journal of the last week of filming M*A*S*H, with all the pictures provided by Alan Alda's talented wife. She had unusual access to a very closed set and was therefore able to capture a lot of raw emotion. Her photos, combined with her husband's often poignant commentary, do much to convey a sense of what was happening to the group of players that had called the 4077th their home. Perhaps because the initial profits went to charity--though probably because it was genuinely there--a real sense of love permeates this work. THE LAST DAYS OF M*A*S*H was no attempt to capitalize on the hysteria surrounding the end of the series, but an authentic documentary effort.

Wonderful message in this age of TV and Nintendo. The art is quite fun and gives a child lots to look at and talk about... the more you look, the more you will see. We enjoyed it!

We have a "Granny Annie" in our family, so this book is even more special for us. This charming tale of this grandmother running to "catch the sunset" is a breath of fresh air. It causes children to think about the world around them and Granny Annie is the perfect character. We loved the illustrations too! This is a fun, sentimental and simple book - 5 Stars!

Aldridge's delightful illustrations bring this simple tale to life. And best of all, my kids love it!
