Cuckoo Sister

Wow! This was great!
Ever since she heard about the mysterious disappearance of her older sister, Emma, from her carriage outside a dress shop two years before she was born, Kate has been fantasizing about meeting her perfect older sister. But when a thin teenager shows up at the door with a note reading, "I had just lost my baby and needed yours when I saw her. Lately I saw in the paper you never got over the loss of your baby so I am returning her to you, love, Louise" Kate is confused. The girl is not at all what she imagined Emma to be, and no one is really sure if it is Emma. The family tries to find out her real identity while the girl searches for Louise, who she thinks as her mother. The ending is nice and the whole story is very enjoyable. It's my second favourite book now because I loved it so much.

The Trial of Anna Cotman
Published in Paperback by Houghton Mifflin Co (April, 1997)

A kind of dark book
This is a different, creative book that could be kind of dark for a children's book. The plot is interesting, when a new girl, desperate for friends, joins up with a girl who is in a secret club. The club bosses Anna (the new girl) around for a time, until more members are introduced. When Anna is put on trial for sticking up for a younger member, the action starts to pick up. Overall I liked the book, although in some parts it is a little bit slow-moving, but the author makes up for it by adding suspense, like the part when Anna is made to sit on the roof to spy on one of the club's leaders. It has a dark side to it, when kids start taking their own "secret societies" a little too seriously. The characters are extremely well-developed and I really cared about some and hated others. I definitely recommend this book.

A book you can't put down
This book is great! The first time I started to read, I couldn't finish. It is about a girl who goes to a new town. The snotty Libby declares the new girl, (Anna Cotman) her best friend. Libbys brother has a club and they let Anna join. in the biggining, the club seems fun. But when time goes on, a world of problems is opened up.

Wow :)
I recently re-read this book and didn't find it as interesting as I once did, but of course that's because I'm not ten years old anymore. However it is an excellent book for younger people, and it's not such a bad idea for "adults" to read either. It tackles issues like friendship, betrayal, addiction, struggle to fit in, using a very unique setting. The world is that of any adolescent, but has been made dark and frightening by a "game" gotten out of hand. The Society of Masks is intriguing, color-coded and led by "lords" who impose tasks and duties upon the lower-ranking "companions". It takes the reader to a different world, despite the fact that it's only some kids with some masks in an abandoned shop. The trial scene is strangely symbolic, and the ending is perfect (a rare thing for me to say, as I never like the ending of a book). Read!! ~Raksh:)

Singer to the Sea God
This book got a little boring and confusing, but the end was enjoyable, suspenseful, and exciting. I don't recommend it to people under 12. It's too boring for someone younger than that age. I, 14, liked it a little. I used it as a book report book, which worked out well because the plot is very obvious.

Okay book
I think that singer to the sea god is not extremely fascinating, but yet, it was a okay book. Most parts of this book have had much research done on the Greeks. An example of that is when Gordian says he is good at knots that is also in another story where he ties a knot and no on except Alexander can untie it. Most reviews have said that it is a fast moving book, but i do not agree. I find it to be very historical, but I had truoble with the plot.

Pretty good book!
Singer to the Sea God was a pretty good book. I had to read it for my reading comprehension class. It is partially confusing. I don't recommend anybody under middle school ages to read this book. One trilogy I recommend is The Lost years of Merlin. Those books are excellent and very addicting! Thank you for listening!
