This can't be beaten for the values that come from, "Nash."
Nash ranks in there with characters like Monte Walsh and Gus MacCrae. The book had a profound effect on me, causing me to review my own past. I'd love to have a hardcover copy of the sequel, "Passage to Quivira." Tks.

Excellent! A master storyteller at his best.
A wonderful character study. Beautifully evocative of the southwest at the crossroads of this century. Ignacio Ortiz is a man to be admired. Thank-you, Mr. Zollinger, for bringing him to us

A beautifully crafted novel
Norman Zollinger is the master of the historical novel, and Meridian is probably his finest. In it, he presents Kit Carson, as seen through the eyes of a younger and admiring friend. Zollinger's honest and rich portrayal of an American legend does not neglect Carson's darker moments, especially during the conquest of California. But in the end we are treated to the best-drawn Kit Carson in all of literature, both fiction and nonfiction.

This is a richly rewarding historical novel, by one of this country's most gifted novelists

Bob Wiseman - Author of HEALTHY SOUTHWESTERN COOKING
There's a subtle but fascinating tone to Zollinger's writing. He has a way of bringing the phenonimal colors of New Mexico and its people to the minds of the readers. After I read "Passage to Quivira" I felt like I'd lived in the Ojos Negros Basin and been part of this beautiful story. I can see why he is one of New Mexico's premier writers.

Captures the spirit of the Territory of New Mexico
Death follows death when Corey Lane, the son of a man reviled as a renegade returns to Chupadera County at the close of the Spanish-American War. As well as being a writer who captures the the taste and smell of the high ponderosas, open deserts and dark complexities of the American Southwest, Norman Zollinger is a skilled teacher and the head of the Taos School of Writing, a summer program for those who want intense intstruction. In RAGE IN CHUPADERA, Corey Lane must learn about betrayal and love and the tale is an engrossing one.

A can't put down book
As a teacher and sports fan, I found myself unable to put this book down. The book recounts the life of John Baker, an elementary teacher and track star, who was stricken with cancer at a young age. His stuggle to deal with the disease and continue his career, is an inspiration. In addition, you get to know his family and friends and how he helps them accept his disease. Reading this book will inspire you to not take what you have for granted and live for the moment!

Chapultepec

Author: Norman Zollinger
Amazon base price: $16.25
Average review score:

Great historical find!
I purchased this book from on "on sale" rack outside a bookstore - bought it because it was cheap. What a find! This is a great historical novel about a time in Mexico I knew very little about. The setting and characters come alive as the reader begins to see the tremendous complexities of this time in Mexico. Only drawback - a bit too many Spanish and French phrases (although usually easily figured out) and a bit too detailed in some of the battle scenes - lovers of battle strategies will love it.

A Fine Historical Novel
This is one of the most intelligent, interesting, and best written historical novels I've read in a long time. The characters are well defined and realistic, the era beautifully brought to life. Zollinger is a newly discovered literary treasure for me and he deserves wider attention. John Pessler
