A great gift
Everybody knows this kid. He was either in our class or in the family. Great storytelling. I think I married him as well. Have given this book for graduation, teen's birthday and now father's day. Good for all ages.

An excellent book from an excellent author
Mr. Benjamin spoke at my school today on his tour for this book, and I had the chance to speak with him beforehand. His speech was engaging, and at the lunch prior to the event he had a chance to talk on a more personal level about "Last Kid Picked" and sumo wrestlers. I recommend this book as well as his short "screeds," vignettes about his childhood in Tomah.

Good real life story of all boys in th 50s
This is a must read for all of us the wished that we were the best jock, but only measured up to normal. It tells just how good we had it and really how funny life is after a few years.

Our Generation Encapsulated
In the course of an individuals maturation process, there are certain immutable truths that transcend the [genders] and the generations. Benjamin David has grasped that process and articulated it in such a fashion that any person who has been through, or will go through, these turbulent years, can identify with. In detailing the trials and tribulations of persons whom I can easily recognize, it was refreshing to see that I was not alone in my thoughts-awkward or normal, his characters embody life for a person my age. As each page passes and the characters unfold, it is easy to see a friend, an acquaintance, or even yourself evolving with the story. Truly a delight to read and an enlightening experience. I look forward to more stories from this talented, energetic, realistic and enlightening author.

Truly Insightful
So This is Wilderness... offers some of the most insightful prose about growing up and learning who we are and what is important to us of any book around. The book's several stories offer characters, situations, and feelings that one can relate to, which is, after all, the hallmark of a great story. David's writing style is unique, inviting, and reflective of the way in which we think about things. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys short and intriguing stories that will undoubtedly strike a chord of nostalgia.

A must read!
This book was recommended to me by a friend and I want to spread the word. I loved it and I can't wait for Benjamin David's next book.

This is a great book!
I am 14 years old and I think this book is awesome! I couldn't put it down while I read it. This book is definately one of the best books I have ever read. I recommend this book to anyone, no matter what their age is. I just hope they make a sequel.

Where's number four??
This series is thrilling, terrific. I can't put the novels down while I read them. I also read Buffy, Angel Charmed, Clueless, and Sabrina books, but this series is tops. It must SURVIVE!
Please mr. Publisher---give us more!

the sixth sense secrets from beyond-hungman
I am 13 years old and I highly recomend Hangman it is one of the better books I read. The whole story revolves around Cole who sees ghosts ,at school he runs into a man who's been hung during the War of 1812.Who wants Cole to help him, but do what?Cole has to find out before the ghost either gets him kicked out of school or harm him. This is an excellant book. The third in a great series but by far this is the best one. This one book made me have my mother go out and buy book one and two.One was great, two was so-so .But hangman keeps your interest so much that you even read it at school.I give this book ,not a 5 but a 10.

well written, clearly illustrated
This book gives an excellent overview of the problems and solutions to level-of-detail rendering. Few books in the computer graphics field are this well written.

A few things to note:

- Though there's plenty of material on simplification of polygonal meshes, there doesn't seem to be much on volume (tetrahedral) simplification. My impression is that volume simplification is kind of hairy, though, and might require its own textbook.

- If you wish to do your own level of detail rendering, you may end up reading the papers referred to in the book. Most of those papers are available online (try google).

- The terrain chapter is great, and even deals with real-world issues (geospatial file formats, terrain data on the web, what a geoid is, etc) in addition to an overview of different approaches to terrain simplification.

If you're doing level-of-detail stuff, it is basically your duty to buy this book. I only wish I'd bought it eariler.

Luebke
This is clearly one of the most outstanding Level-of-Detail-for-3D-Graphics-algorithm-survey books currently in print. However I find Luebke, et al.'s choice of a subtitle puzzling. Clearly it should be "Level of Detail for 3D Graphics: Theory and Application", rather than "Level of Detail for 3D Graphics: Application and Theory". If Luebke, et. al. wanted to emphasize the applied nature of their work, it would've been more appropriate to title it "Level of Detail for 3D Graphics: Application, then Theory, and finally some more Application".

Frankly this oversight ruined the whole experience for me.

Nine-Year-Old Saves World
Only two years older than the author and illustrator himself, the "superhero" character of nine-year-old Ben is quite a capable young man. He has set out to prevent a gang of pesky aliens-which only he can see-from reaching their obvious goal of taking over the earth. Thanks to a costume which gives him special powers of perception, he is able to thwart the aliens at the neighborhood park, the mall, the grocery store and in his own backyard. The "earth-saving" qualities of his heroic deeds are not always recognized, or appreciated, by adults. Yet in the end, our hero succeeds in ways even he doesn't expect and thanks to Ben, we can all sleep better tonight.

An Outstanding Biography
While reading B. FRANKLIN, PRINTER I felt I was immersed in the 18th century with Franklin. I felt I really knew him. I loved the escerpts from colonial newspapers, especially the ones from 1775, the first-hand reports from the firing at Lexington and Concord. I was never bored!

Brother Benjamin: A History of the Israelite House of David

Best History of the Group I've Read
This history of the House of David is objective, informative, and very well documented. The author conducted interviews with members, ex-members, and people who were in one way or another had interactions with the group and has many first hand stories included in the book. I enjoyed reading about all the things the group was involved in, made, invented, and the impact they had on the surrounding area and America as a whole.

The pictures included in the book enhance the text by giving faces to associate with some of the people involved in the group.

A fascenating history of one prophet, two cities, and the many good people who lived the religion. Well done, Mr. Adkin!

What a mistrey?!
I was addicted to this book once started reading. I found it exciting as I was unable to anticipate the story. I will try other books by David Benjamin later on.

the book
this book was so cool it had everything that a book needs. it was a mystery and science fiction all in one.

5 Missing In Philidelphia
I love "The Sixth Sense-Secrets From Beyond" book series. I think that this is probably the best one yet(but that depends, because I still have not read the 3rd book "Hangman"). This book was kind of darker than the first book, but that just makes the book more exciting, because it is a Sixth Sense book. I highly recomend this book for young readers.

A fresh and funny intro to a weird sport
Sumo is one of those sports that it is difficult to take seriously at first by gaijin. Unless you are into shinto, you will have great difficulty understading all of the symbolism etc. in a sumo tournament. You will probably turn to one of the authoritative guides to the Sport, a big mistake, because those authors take the sport much more seriously than you will be able to.

Turn instead to the Joy of Sumo. Written by an American journalist who lives in Japan, this book treats the sport from a fan's perspective. It makes Sumo fun to watch, and still will answer most of your questions.
What is that ref doing? Why is he yelling? Why don't they squash him?
Why do Sumo wrestlers throw matches?
What are the different winning moves?
Why are they so fa-at?

This book still makes me laugh after 10 years of reading it!

ALWAYS puts a smile on my face
I've lost my copy of this book, so must add it my Amazon Wish List!

I've read Joy of Sumo, and favourite pieces from it dozens of times. It's not only valuable for clearly explaining a lot of the terms, but also for the passion and humour with which its written.

And the sketches are priceless :) !

Small enough to carry as a read on the bus, but we warned: you'll get funny looks as you laugh out loud, wiping away the tears ...

I loved it!
I'm only 12 years old, so I'm not really sure how to write a proper review, so just bear with me. I had to make some type of sport magazine for school, and dad was really interested in sumo and had a few books; The Joy of Sumo being one of them. So I decided to do a sumo magazine. One of the things we had to do for it was to write a book review on a book relating to that sport. I'd already read The Joy of Sumo and decided it was worth writng a review about it. We had to rate it, so,seriously, I gave it 5 stars because I like it so much. I think dad bought it from Amazon..... Oh well. Now to actually start writing: The best parts in the book I think are "the Grouping Urge" chapter and the description of the match between Chiyonofuji(is he not a legend! ) and Asahifuji in the 1990 Nagoya basho. It was very cleverly written. Well, I hope this is good enough, because I have to go now!
