An essential Christmas story
This is a perfect book for reading aloud to a grade school child...but my junior high school daughter still loves it as well. It is a charmingly written tale of the twists of fate that unite orphan girl Ivy with the Christmas doll Holly in the nick of time. The genius of Rumer Godden is that she writes it in a way that the adult reading the story enjoys it fully as much as the child listening. Barbara Cooney's illustrations look exactly the way the story looks in one's imagination. When I first went looking for a hardcover version of this book it was very hard to find, so order this one now. Your kids will treasure it in their library.

This story is what Christmas is all about.
Holly and Ivy was originally published in Ladies Home Journal in the 1950s. My mom clipped the story from the magazine, and read it to me and my sister every Christmas. The lonely little orphan girl Ivy and the doll Holly who wished so much to have a child for Christmas, really touched a chord with us. For me it started a life-long love for Rumer Godden, especially for her doll stories. To fully appreciate the story, you have to hear it read aloud.

The Story of Holly and Ivy
I think this book is a wonderful book. When I was young it was my favorite book. It was one of the first books I read. It is a very good story for younger kids, but I would reccomend it for parents to read it to their children.

***********WONDERFUL!************
This is one good book people. It's kind of like soap opera. It's about a teenager who LOVES shopping and then can't go shopping anymore. This was a great plot.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SPLENDIFFEROUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is my favorite of Sheila Klass's novels. It has three plots roled into one novel. It is hard to say whether Carole her friend Jim or her friend Monique has a more exciting life. All three have their own unique personalitys, and reactions to their lives. They have different views on eachothers lives and yet they all tie into the story. I reccomend this book to everyone in anyh situation

Lettie Lane Paper Dolls
I loved paper dolls when I was a little girl and hoped that this collection would entice my 7 year old daughter into that world. The paper dolls in this book are beautifully done, however, these were impossible for a 7 year old to successfully cut out. These dolls require skills of a much older child. Are there 12 year old girls willing to play with paper dolls anymore? If so, this collection is an accurate portrayal of a Victoriana family preparing for a wedding.

Great value and lots of fun.
There are so many dolls in this book and each has many outfits. Each one is done with a great deal of detail. The quality of the paper is wonderful and will survive lots of play. I loved the fact that most outfits have hats to go with them.

a sad, but sweet love story
I read this book for the first time when I was in eighth grade. It is a wonderful story of young adults dealing with death and life after it. But in the mist of all the heartache that goes with death, Mr. Carter weaves in a delightful love story that will leave you feeling good about yourself and those around you.

I would strongly recommend this book to any young adult reader (or adult reader for that matter) because of the story's simple look at a hard topic. This is one book that you will want to read again!

A story of friends that stand by each other in tragedies!
I rated this book as a 5 star rating, because this story was very interresting the whole way through. It is very difficult for me to get interrested in reading. This story inspired me to keep reading. The tragedy of Sheila was very sad and the help from her friends Bonnie and Jerry was so awesome. I totally recommend this book to everyone to read.

Illustrated guide to the development of English castles.
This is an excellent overview of the development of castle architecture and fortifications technology from the dark ages through the wide adoption of gunpowder. The historical narrative is that of English politics, and all the castles described are located within England and Wales, but the general story will be of interest to any medievalist. Sancha's peculiar (in the sense that I've never seen anyone else do it) device is placing drawings atop photographs of existing buildings. Her reconstructions of now-ruined architecture and introductions of people into the pictures effectively draw her readers into the world she wishes to portray.

A MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!
I have read many of Sheila Klass's novels for young adults and this is definitely one of her best. I admire the way she interests you in a plot that many writers could write as a moral story and nothing else. She shows Beth's personality with amazing realisticness. She creates vivid charachters such as the Pillsburys and Clarissa that although they aren't main charachters the story would not be the same without them. I highly reccomend this book to people who are looking for a novel to read for amusement

Hamanaka weaves 2 cultures to create a book of hope & peace
The ability to create a story which combines urban culture &past war horrors to present existing issues is what SheilaHamanaka has accomplished. To show the cultural differences of children through the similarities of their hopes for a better world is brought forth in the poetic words and the beautifully illustrated picturebook, Peace Crane. This poem for children demonstrates Hamanaka's ability to combine the past to the present to create a new kaleidoscope view of the urban fears and past results through the voice of a child. Calling for the comfort of a Peace Crane is a call for hope.
