This book contains lots of wonderful activities to keep your preschooler or preschool class busy learning. The activities are grouped into sections based on what skill or topic they most relate to (ie fine motor skills, large motor skills, developing an interest in science, language skills, critical thinking). Each section is loaded with hands on active learning activities geared for preschoolers. Most of the supplies needed are items you will have around the house and are about ready to pitch. My personal favorite is the "Is the cup full" experiment. I use these with my kids at home. There are some activities that are geared for larger groups but most can be done individually. Whether you are an early childhood educator or a mom looking for quick activities to keep your young child busy, I would recommend this book.

This book is absolutely wonderful. I bought it for homeschooling my youngest child and I really liked it. It has all the ideas u will ever need as well as what u need to do the things it suggests. There are many games to play and stories to go with the ideas presented. If you follow this book u will not need another.

I absolutely loved this book. It gives the view points of two girls, ali - a daughter of a writer, and simone - a beautiful girl who seems, at the beginning to be just another stuck up rich girl. This touching story illustrates how the two opposites form an unusual friendship.

This book is incredibly moving, completely engrossing...Simone seems like this ice queen, who no one can penetrate. However, she becomes probably the most vivid character of the two girls. I highly reccomend this to anyone interested in friendship, witchcraft and mysterious pasts.

One of the most valuable resources you can have if you are a teacher, daycare worker, or just like to have a lot of fun with young children, "The Complete Book of Activities, Games, Stories, Props, Recipes, and Dances for Young Children is a delightful read. Within the text Jackie Silberg and Pam Schiller have compiled a wonderful collection of over 600 ways to have fun with young children.

Divided into various sections, the first one consists of activities. In it you will find lots of useful ideas for every day objects from empty soda bottles, to boxes and rubber bands. From pattern matching to tactile activities, imagination activities, tops, folding a paper hat, and a great number of other activities, it's all here and you are sure to find something that suits your needs.

Following this is a section on games. Again, they don't require any special or hard to find props but simple, fun games that young children would enjoy. Cat and Mouse, Drop the Clothespin, Flashlight Tag (one of my favorites as a child), Freeze Tag, Grass Tug of War, Spider Walk, and Walk a Crooked Line are just a few from the large collection.

The next section contains Action Stories. Each story has a set of actions that goes along with it. From the currently very popular Going on a Bear Hunt and Hey, My Name is Joe, to lesser known ones like A Spring Walk young children are sure to enjoy them all.

Other sections include Stories for Flannel Boards and Magnetic Boards, Listening Stories, Prop Stories, Puppet Stories, Rebus Stories, Arts and Crafts Recipes, Food Recipes, and Dances. The book is easily worth the price just for the craft recipes section that includes such favorites as Salt Paste, Gak, Fingerpaints, Playdough, Scratch and Sniff Paint, and Soap Crayons. And what child hasn't squealed with delight while dancing something like the Bunny Hop, Chicken Dance, Go In and Out the Windows, the Hokey Pokey, the Macarena, The Mulberry Bush, or Skip to My Lou.

The book finishes off with a very large appendix (slightly over half the book). The appendix contains patterns to copy and use for the activities, flannel board stories, props, puppet stories, rebus stories and all the other things mentioned in the book. Finally there are two indexes. One is an alphabetical listing and one is a listing by theme so you can lookup appropriate activities for a particular focus. "The Complete Book of Activities, Games, Stories, Props, Recipes, and Dances for Young Children" is very highly recommended and the ultimate reference for anyone dealing with young children on a regular basis.

This book is was very interesting. It told of lot of interesting things that tyra does does besides modeling. She is one of my favorite models. I think that is she very different from the other models out there and will always be.

The Values Book is an excellent source of information and activities to encourage values in your child. The authors cite changes in modern culture and use fun, creative methods to instill traditional values. Each chapter begins with a familiar rhyme recognizing a particular value. The authors then define the value, and discuss why it is important in a child's life. Ways to talk about the value are included, and activities to reinforce the value are suggested. At the end of each chapter, extra resources are listed concerning the value discussed. In an easy-to-read format, the book discusses 16 values like loyalty, respect, patience and cooperation. Parents will appreciate advice for ways children may react to values, and teachers will be pleased to find helpful hints to celebrate values in the classroom. Children will benefit from the home activities, like growing a garden and making up new solutions to problems seen on television. In addition to improving their grasp on teaching specific principles, parents themselves may find they have gained a better respect for values. Through helping children incorporate values in their everyday lives, parents will play a key role model for making the teachings stick with their children for years.

This beautiful children's book brings the reader above, below and all around the ocean to discover all forms of sea life. The exquiste art work makes you feel like your witnessing the creatures first hand and the informative and accurate descriptions enhance the book and make it a pleasure to read. My five year old chooses this book to read at bed at night over and over again! Best testimonial I know of!

I had to read it twice to get it because it switches back and forth from present to past. It's a brilliant story; one that reaches out to you. It's one of those books where you say you will only read 2 chapters and save the rest for tomorrow and you ending reading the rest of the book. I think this would make a great movie.

This was my favorite childhood book. It inspired me to want to become a paleontologist. I find the study of dinosaurs fascinating. I am now 18 and just re-read it recently. I was just as intrigued with it now as when I was an 8-year-old child. A beautiful book that everyone should read.

Julis Creath, now Julia Summerwaite, is taking her grandchildren through a history museum when she remembers her young life when her brother was alive. Julia tells the story to her grandchildren of when her brother got dinoasaur bone finding fever. I really like this book. It leads you from one page to another, not even realizing you're turning the page. Daniel, Julis's brother, finds dinoasaur bones, but has trouble with a greedy paleontologist that is trying to take the bones for himself. During the commotion Daniel gets hit by lighting and is killed. Then Daniel's pa takes over. Julia also has a little something to show her grandchildren in the museum.

I first read the original "SHE, From Pigpen to Paradise" back around the time it was first published. I saw a small item on it in "Women's Day" magazine and ordered it. Now I was born with 50% organized and 50% disorganized genes, so I am half organized. With Pam & Peggy's card system I spent less time doing houseword and the house was cleaner. I had 1 child, who is now married and has produced the world's cutest and smartest grandbaby. Throughout her childhood I had 5 day care kids so you could say I was busy. Now that she's gone and its just my husband and me I fell out of my card box. Bad idea. The closets are a mess, last year I was an officer in an organization I belong to and did a really bad job and this Christmas I spent an unhappy day frantically wrapping presents until my leg hurt and my back hurt. Its been a long time since I experienced this kind of frustration.

I understand that Pam & Peggy have gone to a binder organizer system. I can't wait to read their updated book! I've ordered mine already.

I just love this book! I have been using this system for 2 weeks now, and already I notice a change in my life. I am more relaxed, more organized and can focus on the things I WANT to do. Much of the book is funny accounts of the author's battles with clutter and disorganization. This is entertaining, but I wanted to get right to the heart of things. I am using their 3 x 5 index card plan. Basically, they want you to put all the chores that need to be done on index cards, filed with different colors according to how often they need to be done (daily, weekly, monthly, seasonally). You file the cards behind the appropriate date in an index card box. Each day, you just need to look at the cards to see what you need to do. I find it very helpful in that I get busy right away on what needs to be done and don't worry about other chores, because I have them scheduled for another day. The book has a chart at the back suggesting various household chores that need to be done, and places for you to add your own. Before using this system, I often felt overwhelmed just thinking about all the things that needed to be done, and ended up not doing anything at all! It really helps me to focus on what needs to be done and avoid wasting time. Now I have more time to do the things that I want, and I am happier and better organized. It is an easy system to apply and can be adapted to the areas where you are more or less organized. I highly recommend this book!

Since I discovered the Sidetracked Sisters in 1988 I've graduated 3 daughters from highschool, 2 from college and one from medical school. I've given 4 weddings, three of them in cities in which I did not live. I've moved seven times, attended 3 graduate schools, completed a Master's degree and started a Ph.D. I've managed to stay married to the same neatnic for 36 years and now have four beautiful grandchildren. If it were not for Pam and Peggy, I couldn't have survived (literally) one day beyond the day I first picked up this book. The card file grounded me and kept me going on days I feared either flying of the face of the earth or gettly buried in the clutter. By sharing the book with my own sister, we have kept reminding each other to "get back to the box" during times we were less than diligent. The principles shared by the authors are excellent management skills which I employed in my private practice as a counselor and have taught to clients suffering from conditions such as ADHD as well as to parents overwhelmed by what life's pressures are handing them. I've also used the "Happiness File" for years, I reread it every year in January, setting new priorities for the year and reviewing my accomplishments from the previous year. The book is an easy read and funny. Perhaps the greatest testimony to the efficacy of the system is that my pediatrician daughter and busy mother of one of my beautiful granddaughters has asked for a copy recently stating, "I didn't think I'd ever say this but I've got to find a better way to manage all I've got to do and it's worked pretty well for you."
