Fr. Jim's Life Changing Words
Lessons from the School of Suffering is written for a person with a heart that seeks God. Fr. Jim passionately and honestly expresses all of his feelings about his illness, his human condition with its doubts, fears, and struggles. Then he shares prayers that lead to spiritual growth, words for ALL people, not only those with life threatening illness. This is a book with humor amid the pain. It's inspiring!!

Lessons from real life from a real person
In telling his story, Jim Willig demonstrates incredible strength and human weakness. It is heartening in a sense to see a man of such incredible faith struggle with his own mortality; It makes one feel better about the doubts we struggle with. Jim teaches us that in the end, all we have is faith (I don't know what the future is, but I know Who the future is). He lived an example of acceptance that we can all learn from. God bless Jim Willig. May his example lead us in our daily acceptance of what life gives us!

A powerful and moving book.
Fr. Jim Willig is my brother. His cancer not only had a profound effect on his life and our family but on the many thousands of people who searching for Jesus. This book is a close up look at what he thought and went through. Nothing happens without a purpose. Those who are suffering with cancer or other tragedies will be conforted by Jim's book, there is a reason and purpose to life. It all holds meaning. Those that God holds dearest are the very ones often given the most difficult path.

Jim passed away on June 24, 2001 surrounded by our family and frineds in what I call a very holy moment. There is no doubt in my mind that this book was inspired. I see the hand of God in all this writing. May it be a blessing to you. It will no doubt change your life, forever.

All things are possible, only believe.
Jim Rayburn III has captured the spirit of a great movement that has made the world a better place to live. Jim Rayburn, the author's father and founder of Young Life lived a life committed to sharing God's love with young people. This is an important book for anyone who wishes to know the inside story of a person dedicated to serving God. It is a life high "highs" and low "lows". It is a life of pain, tragedy, disappointment, felt betrayal and a life of joy, faith, love, compassion and humor. It is a life of prayer and close commumion with the Almighty. Jim III has openly shared the inside struggles of his family as well as the inside struggles of the organization of Young Life. This book will be an encouragement to any unafraid to confront a great truth, that great accomplishments can be experienced in the middle of great pain.

From Bondage to Liberty, Dance, Children, Dance
This book was one of the more "impacting" pieces of literature I have picked up in a long time. It's the inspirational story of a man's desire for rich intimacy with God, and his burning love affair with The Savior. Throughout the story, miracles unfold one by one before the readers eyes. This book played a significant role in my desire to join the Young Life staff four years ago in Littleton, Colorado. I have been inspired by Jim's love for kids as I continue to invest my life in those at Columbine High School. As I reflect on this story, it makes me regretful-that I have only one life to give for Christ.

Kevin Parker Young Life Area Director South Jefferson County, CO

A Primary Source Insight to Young Life and Jim Rayburn
If the mission of Young Life played a role in your life at any level; whether as a "club kid", camper, committee member, staff, or volunteer, then Bondage to Liberty, Dance Children Dance is essential reading for you. To understand the mission, you must understand the man God chose to initiate it, Jim Rayburn Jr. His son, Jim Rayburn III, provides the means to understand that man in this book. Primary source materials including personal journals, "club talks", and first-hand observations shed light on Jim's character and internal thought processes, personal relationships, incredible prayer life, and personal spiritual highs and lows. Photographs and expanded captions add much to the painting of Jim's portrait. More than a simple biography, Bondage to Liberty honestly examines the lives of Jim and Maxine Rayburn, their human struggles, frailties, shortcomings, and the miraculous work accomplished through them. In the process, it opens a window into Jim's relationship to his Heavenly Father and his God-sized vision for reaching teens with the message of the Christian faith in terms they could relate to. More than just documenting a work with youth, Bondage to Liberty reveals the varied spectrum of Young Life's history from its conceptual beginnings in the rural Southwest, to the anointed growth and impact during its early decades, through its tumultuous social and corporate growing pains, and on to its current condition today. In the context of the story of this man and his work, we are reminded that making an impact with teenagers, or anyone in this world, has more to do with love than it does logistics, requires availability more that it does capability, and demands faith rather than fancy formulas. Just as with the mission it documents, Jesus Christ and knowing real life in Him isn't just one thing Bondage to Liberty is about, its all Bondage to Liberty is about.

Very good book
This book is very good & understandable. I like it mainly for the pictures.

Wonderful intro to young soldiers lives in the Civil War
Read this aloud with my children about 2 years ago. It sparked my son's interest in Civil War historical fiction. He is not an avid reader, but has read several civil war books including "Red Cap" by Clifton Wisler and just picked up "Across Five Aprils" for his sixth-grade historical fiction assignment. Jim Murphy is a fine writer, weaving quotes, diary entries and anecdotes into a lucent and revealing account of the lives of youths who participated in the Civil War. A fine book!

Hispanics of Achievement...
In the center of the book are copies of Diego's paintings: Calle de Pueblo, Workers' Meeting, Zapata Buried, and more. Describes colorfully Rivera's relationship with Frida Kahlo and the ways that Rivera mixed art with politics. The Medallion Edition is really attractive.

fantastic book
This is a fantastic book for young people interested in Diego Rivera, art history, politics and/or hispanic culture. I like that this book tells the story of the man, and how all the interconnected parts of this person add up to an extraordinary life.

The Read-Aloud Handbook
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (1995)
Author: Jim Trelease
Amazon base price: $24.20
Used price: $16.94
Average review score:

Essential for parents and teachers
If you are a parent or teacher this book is essential. Trelease's chapters on the value of reading are fascinating and inspirational. The list of read-aloud books children will love is absolutely accurate. Every one of these books is a good read-aloud. This will save you tons of time finding books for your children and will guide you to wonderful books you have never heard of.

THE Reference Book To Raise a Reader
I first discovered the 1985 edition of Jim Trelease's book
and ever since then have snapped up every edition.
"The Read-Aloud Handbook" is my baby-shower gift, always -- I let others bring diapers and toys and clothes for the baby's body --
this book will care for the baby's mind.

"The Read-Aloud Handbook" very neatly and simply lays out the proof that reading aloud to children is the best way to get them to WANT to read -- not merely to
think of books in association with school and dittoes and homework (as all too many children do, whose only recreational storytelling has come from a big glass box in the family room.) In simple, clear language, Trelease spends the first half of the book explaining the value of reading aloud, success stories, and practical tips on both reading aloud and curbing television usage. The second half of the book is a reference list of tested read-alouds, from board books for infants to novels for teens.

This is an invaluable reference book.

If you're a parent, you must read this book!
The best thing you can give your child is the love of reading. Being a good reader will not only help your child in school, but your child will have a lifetime's worth of learning nad pleasure ahead of him!

My own children are in their late teens and early 20's and I was fortunate enough to hear Jim Trelease speak at a public library many years ago, probably soon after the first edition of The Read Aloud Handbook came out. We started reading to our oldest child when she was 4 months old and as the others came along, they were read to from birth since we were reading to the older one(s).

This book is incredibly inspiring - Jim gives so many great suggestions on what books to read to your kids, and how to interest kids who may be reluctant to enter into reading themselves.

Just the list of books alone would be worth the price of this book! I know that we wouldn't have known about some of the books we read to our kids without Jim's book.

Jim Trelease also covers the issue of TELEVISION in his book. He gives very convincing reasons for turning OFF the TV and reading instead. I had already made the decision for our family that we weren't going to allow the children to watch endless hours of TV (even though all they watched was Sesame Street and Mister Rogers!), but Jim's book confirmed my decision.

My kids all enjoy reading - and my husband and I have always been readers. For me, the book was just confirming what I already knew - and it gave me so many good titles to find at the library! I remember reading "Stone Fox" to our girls and what a great experience that book was.

Public libraries are a wonderful resource, but they don't take the place of having a child OWN some books of his own. Tell family members to buy your children books for Christmas and birthday gifts. When you can, buy hardcover as they will last a lot longer. Look up some of the books Trelease recommends here on Amazon - you can read reviews and make some good choices.

Children today are TOO BUSY - most kids have more activities than anyone could possibly handle and still have time to stop and just be! 10-15 years ago, kids would play a sport, or play an instrument, take dance lessons, or be in Scouts. They might do two of these things. But I know kids who do them ALL, plus more things I haven't mentioned. And one of the things that gets cut out with all the busy-ness is READING. Meals together as a family fall by the wayside and kids and parents are so exhausted from running around with all the activities that they don't read books and the parents are too tired to read to them.

If you have young children, please consider fighting this pressure to sign your child up for every available activity. Take time to enjoy your family - the kids grow up much too fast!

And give your kids the gift of reading - buy a copy of this marvelous book, consult it often, and you'll enjoy a richness of family life that your kids will remember forever!

It was a great book!
Snow Dog was a wonderful story of a dog's loyalty and courage in his final battle with his long-time arch enemy, the Black Wolf. Kjelgaard was at his peak when he wrote of the inspiring life and love of Link Stevens and Chiri.

Dreams of my own Snow Dog
As a young boy I first read this story and was captivated by the dog Chiri and the story of the black wolf. I now intend to by this book, and others by Jim Kjelgard, for my children. These wonderful stories inspired my youthful imagination and I'm sure you will find yourself dreaming of arctic adventures with your own snow dog.

LOVE IT !
I absilutly LOVE this book. I being a dog lover really liked the story line. The way Jim Kjelgaard told the strong emotions of a dog's instincts and ability to survive on it's own out in the wild, was absilutly wonderful. I can't count how many times I have read this and how many times I want to read it again!

A good story about a strong woman.
Rosa Parks: My Story is about this lady named Rosa Parks. She refused to move to the back of the bus. She went to jail because she refused to move to the back of the bus. Rosa Parks was born February 4, 1913 in Tuskegee and was named Rosa after her grandmother, Rose. What I liked about the story was that she had the courage to stand up to the white people and policemen. What I didn't like was that the police had to take Rosa to jail, but they didn't want to. They said it was wrong.

the rosa parks story
Rosas life story is amazing how she puts every detail on how the blacks were treated(like dirt!) If you want to know more about the amazing story of Rosa Parks, who refused to move on the bus for a white man,and did a fifty-six mile march to Montgomery, with a whole bunch of other blacks who were tired of getting treated like they were.If you want to know more about this amazing life of rosas buy this book immediately!!!!!!!!!!

This is a good Biagrophy to read about Black History
The title of my book is "Rosa Parks:My Story".The story takes place in the South. The most interisting factin the beginning of the book is that rosa lived through racism. When Rosa was going to school predjuced people would throw things at her.At the end of my book the most important fact is that she wasan activist in the N.A.A.C.P.Also she worked toward ending racism, and she is still living today.

BEST BOOK EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think kniner dog of doom is by, far the best book in the series. In this book Vetvix creates a brain bosting machine and increeses a dovermen's intellagence. I really liked this book because it's exciting and funny. K-niner went to kennel (a planet with a lot of dogs), used the brain bosting machine and bosted all the dogs intelagence so they could walk and talk. Then he starts going to other planets and bosting dogs brains. If you liked this book you should read other books by Jim Davis.

This book was very funny as well as action packed. I would highly recommend it for any Garfield fan or for anyone who likes an adventure with a little bit of humor as well.
