this book to boys more then girls because of the fact the main charter is a
young man and in the most parts of the book is about Knute as an
athlete. In this book, Knute the main charter, does many breath taking
things. Guernsey Van Riper Jr. gets the reader caught on his hook to
read this book. The events make them want to fall out of their chair.
Knute has a sister Anne who takes him out to the berry patch to gather
berries. On their way back from the berry patch Knute decides that he
wants to go swimming so Anne gives in and joins Knute. Suddenly . I
will leave you hanging. Try to get your hands on this book before it is
gone, Also try to get your hands on some of the other books that Guernsey
Van Riper Jr. has written.

This is really neat, since it gives you a peek behind the KJV text to get at the translators' thoughts in a certain verse. You are also able to compare their use of the English word as a translation of the various Hebrew or Greek words that underly it. The only drawback of the Young's is the lack of a really effective way to research all the words translated in the KJV from a certain Greek or Hebrew word, for instance the word "phileo," which has several English translations. Young's does have an index of this information, but you are forced to look up each English word in order to find the various related verses. For a comprehensive word search on a specific Hebrew or Greek word, Strong's concordance may provide a better choice...
Nevertheless, Young's is my first choice for day-to-day use and completeness.

When I think of Lorraine Hansberry I think of a woman who achieved the impossible in an impossible time. She completed her plays with such intensity and flair . . . As if she lived and researched each every act.
Nevertheless, I feel that Hansberry was stating that to be "Young, gifted, and black," is clearly to be aware of who and what you are . . . and to take this knowledge of who and what you are and to run with it. Taking a chance when given a chance, or rather taking a chance and creating an opportunity with merely a bit of the gift that you had.
I will always remember what Thurgood Marshall, he basically stated that "He did the best with what he had." Is that being merely good or is that being the best. I believe that the concept of this book is not to be mistaken. I believe Hansberry is saying, "Hey sister, hold your head up high. It does not matter what this world thinks of you. It only merely matters about what you can do for yourself and your fellowman. Do you know your gifts? Hey write it down. You are worth perfecting."
Lorraine Hansberry did wonders in her lifetime she did so much for her community and her fellowman. My question to myself and others is . . . What about your gifts? Hey write them down. They are worth perfecting.

Although Strong's is more popular and has its strengths, Young's is better for word studies due in part to the way it "analyzes" English words.
For instance, most students know that several Greek or Hebrew words can be translated by one English word. Young shows this by analyzing the English word showing all of the Greek or Hebrew words it translates and then lists the verses containing each occurrence of the various Greek or Hebrew words. This makes for more accurate word studies.
Highly recommended. One caveat: this is the original version and not the corrected and updated version.

I read the book a couple of years ago and liked it. I don't understand the hateful reviews.
You know, of course, that an arsonist destroyed the Cedar Bridge on Tuesday, 3 September, 2002. That's why I decided to read the book again. I was in Iowa at the time of the movie premiere in 1995, but did not attend any events connected with it.
A comment on page 78 reflects the view of the average Iowan.
"And why in the world would anybody wanna take pictures of 'em?
(The covered bridges.) They're just all fallin' down in bad shape." I grew up a few miles north of Madison County, Iowa, and never went to see the wooden bridges.
One thing that I noticed the author missed was I am sure that neighbors noticed Kincaid's pickup at the Johnson farm. In a rural community there are no secrets. There was no mention of him parking the truck out of sight. Someone must have seen it.
I think city slickers may have had trouble with this story, but we real people did not.
