As the name of this reference implies, it provides a good review from particle physics to astrophysics, and of significance, relates inner space to outer space. Both theoretical and experimental methods are explored. The classical big-bang theory is clearly discussed, as are its difficulties and the solutions provided by inflation theory.

I have read lots of popular science books about particle physics and this is way out in front of the pack! It clarified many things that other authors just assumed the reader could understand. For example, the section on how to build synchrotrons and accelerators and why the devices are shaped the way they are was so clear. Plus the color photographs and drawings make it a lovely book to just browse through. If you love particle physics, or are even just a little intrigued, this book is a must! I intend to reread it sometime.

The Boy in the Bush is a minor work being a collaboration between Lawrence & Mollie Skinner. It is still a interesting read containing "Laurentian" ideas more fully worked out in his other novels.

The culturgrams are a great reference for teachers, students, travelers, and researchers for quick information on history, geography, cultural, and other important information for each country listed. The information is accurate and as up-to-date as possible.

There are a lot of retirement books out there, so I went with the one with a recognizable name and I'm glad I did. My parents haven't thought enough about retirement and I wanted to spur them to action. They were pleased to find out that there were many things they could do now, even at this late date, to help them, and they even starting giving me tips on ways I could start planning. So then I gave this book to my husband's parents who are already retired, and they ended up buying it for friends too. There are tons of tips, easy things you can do, worksheets, charts, action lists, tips--even a section on how to overcome adverse events like losing your job and divorce. It is worth the read. You'll learn a lot and be happy you did.

I couldn't put this book down, I loved it so much the first time, that i read it a second time, and it was even better the second time, because if you missed important descriptions, or anything, you definently get it the second time around!

David Young was born and raised in Hawai`i by a kama`aina family with a keen appreciation for both the Hawaiian culture and Hawaii's natural environment. It is obvious from both his introduction and from the book itself that Na Mea Makamae is a work of love and respect. Most of the material in Young's book has been taken from other published material. As a result, Hawaiian Treasures is primarily a compilation of knowledge from other sources. However, Young openly acknowledges that and he provides very complete notes about his sources for each chapter and an excellent bibliography.

One could easily dismiss Young's book as just another "me too" collection of things Hawaiian - but that would be a BIG mistake.

Books about collections of artifacts can be terribly boring and bear a close resemblance to reading a catalog, but Young's beautiful book is about as far away from that category as you can get. He has assembled a varied and amazingly representative collection of Hawaiian artifacts, took high quality photographs of them and then added rich commentary to weave a totally captivating book. As he explains in the introduction, "artifacts are representations of a culture." Young has chosen a cross-section of Hawaiian artifacts that clearly portrays both the richness of artistic achievement and the simultaneous practicality with which Hawaiians dealt with their environment. Many of the artifacts that he has chosen are from the Kailua-Kona area, which makes this book especially interesting to Big Island residents or visitors.

One of the unique features of Hawaiian Treasures that elevates it to "coffee table" status (in addition to the photographs) is that many of the chapters are preceded by semi-transparent vellum pages which are printed with an historical photograph or drawing, or a Hawaiian kapa or fish-netting pattern. The effect is stunning. In the case of the natural materials, you can almost feel the textures! Chapters include such subjects as: early collectors, food, shelter, trees, textiles, clothing, travel, fishing, recreation, musical instruments, weapons, religion, ornaments, etc.

Young uses a very nice combination of photographs (many historical), dictionary-like text entries and interview material to present a surprisingly complete, if brief, overview of the Hawaiian culture. In only 109 pages, he does an excellent job of portraying the complexity, richness and beauty of early Hawaiian life. I've read a lot about Hawai`i, but I learned a lot of new things here (and read about some locations that I have to snoop around now). There is some especially interesting material on the uses of lava caves that I haven't seen before. The only significant way that I think the book might be improved would be to lengthen the descriptions and discussions about some of the artifacts. But then, I suspect that one of Young's purposes in creating this book was to whet people's appetites for more information about the Hawaiians' amazing culture. Hawaiian Treasurers is beautiful, quite remarkable and definitely belongs in everyone's Hawaiian library.

I read the first edition in 1977 or so and it revolutionized my work as a therapist. Beier's original thinking about how unconscious processes are rewarded can help the practicing psychotherapist understand the richness of the therapeutic relationship.

This guide provides excellent pre-retirement planning suggestions. Has traps, obstacles and helpers outlined for quick review and advice. Has a number of "tools" in the form of worksheets to assist in planning for both before and after retirement events. Presents a number of post-retirement ideas with several suggestions of how to manage and/or increase your income in retirement. Authors are somewhat short on information for the mid 50's retiree concerning how to access 401k and IRA funds without penalty between 55 and 59 1/2. No info on what forms are needed and where they are available, or what needs to be filed and where. Has one slight reference in the appendix on how to accomplish withdrawals without penalty. Having read a number of retirement planning books available on the bookshelf, I found this volume excels in providing useful information not found in similar guide books.

Although this book deals with many aspects of retirement and retirement planning, what distinguishes it from the dozens of similar books I have read is a truly outstanding calculator for determining how much money will be available then and how much needs to be saved or invested to eliminate any shortfall. It includes pensions, social security, and savings and investments. It factors in life expectancy, income sources that will automatically increase with inflation and those that won't, savings and investment growth rates, withdrawl rates that must increase with inflation(which--unbelievably--some calculators don't consider). It allows for early retirement (that is, it doesn't factor in social security until it's available). Similarly, it allows for staggered commencement of retirement income sources (for example, a pension that starts at age 65 while you may start social security at age 62). I've not found another calculator that does ALL of these things! I couldn't recommend it more highly.

This guide really lays out, step by step, how to think and act to plan your retirement. I found this a surprisingly quick read, comprehensive, easy to understand and specific -- from spending, lifestyle, insurance, investing issues. The book makes a great gift for friends or parents because too many of us are not paying attention to the easy "Action Items" that each chapter ends with. Highly recommended!

An integral part to any Shakespeare work is the presence of footnotes! This book has a glossary, but it does not do any good because there is not sign in the actual text itself that one can look up specific words in the glossary. While the plays themselves are very enjoyable, do not purchase this edition unless you feel very confident about your ability to read Shakespearean language.

this is a great book for shakespeare fans. it was the first time i read shakespeare outside of class, and it was very interesting. i didn't like the prefaces much, i didn't have the patience to read them. i felt they were very of long, and harder to read and understand than the actual shakespeare. they actual plays-not stories, just to clarify- are wonderful. it would be a great book to read if you are taking a literature class and want to get a head start or if you want to expand your vocabulary. you can even relate the problems of those times to the problems of today. the plays were very fun to read once you got into them; shakespeare is just as great as he is said to be.

this is an excellent 'cheap' edition of the great tragedies. besides being edited by david bevington, considered one of the foremost shakespeare scholars, the bantam edition also includes introductory essays for each play AND the source material that shakespeare used - ie, the actual short stories or plays that the bard drew on to the write his plays. wonderful stuff and a great way to get into shakespeare.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to improve eyesight. The book is straightforward with complete instructions on the eye exercises. It is true that everyone can improve one's eyesight by doing eye exercise. Although the method does work, it takes time. Don't expect a quick fix. You have to be patient and persistent. I think the book has exaggerated the speed of results. I believe, for someone who has low a prescription, they can improve to see perfectly in a short period of time because I saw a big improvement in my vision for the first 3 months after I did the exercise. However, it levels off. To reduce a high presciption like me, it is slow. In my case, I was -8.75. After exerersing for a year and half, my vision has been reduced to -7. I am still doing it beliving that I will one day, many years from now, do not have to wear contacts.

By the way, don't buy the "See Clearly Method" program. It is exactly the same program described in this book but is packaged with additional video/tapes and fancy marketing for over ten times the cost of this book. Buy this book instead.

I had once asked my eye doctor if there was anything I could do to improve my eyesight. He said, "No, you will need to get stronger prescription glasses". Two years later, I stumbled upon this book. My prescription strength was -3.00 (L) and -3.50 (R), with a slight astigmatism in my right eye. After two and a half months of performing these exercises roughly every other day, my prescription strength is now -1.75 (L) and -2.25 (R), with no trace of astigmatism.

I personally don't care what method this is based on and what new packaging the authors are doing. This book works for me and that's what I care about. For the first time in 15 years, I can look at my alarm clock in the morning and see what time it is without glasses or squinting. This book has worked for me.

This is the best book ever on how to improve your eyesight. The book is concise and easy to read. "Talking about an eye opener!" If you are serious about getting rid of your glasses, this book is a must! I recently had an eye exam after only two weeks of doing the recommended eye exercises. The results were; the right eye from -3.00 D to -2.00 D and the left eye from -3.25 D to -2.50 D. "I will be for ever grateful to the authors of this Book!".
