What happened to Julie?
This is a good, easy to read suspense novel for a lazy afternoon. A teen girl named Julie has faint memories of another life and she and her best friend, Allison (the narrator) make trips to a nearby town to see what they can discover, to see if Julie can remember what was so dreadful in her last life.

It deals with the reality of reincarnation!
I first read this book when I was about twelve and I didn't really understand it. Then I read it again recently and it made much more sense. Julie, the main character, with her friend Allison, are trying to uncover the possibility that Julie lived once before. It's a very good story, good under the covers reading!

I like the book alot
I read the book back in 1989 after my grandmother passed away. I ordered it on Dec 21, 2001 and I know it's late due to the holidays but I am getting worried that the book might be lost in the mail.

Excellent examination of the teen psyche
the flashbacks to sarah's childhood, her twisted jealousy of her younger sister, and the ease with which she manipulates her parents are all elegantly portrayed in remember me when i am dead. my favorite part of the book is definitely the end, when sarah has a few delicious moments of triumph-then learns that she won't get what she wants after all. frankly, i think sarah is an awful person and i would never be friends with her-but then, i am the darling only child and the precocious only grandchild. every time i read this book i muse over what i would have been like in her place, and if that skating accident damaged her brain (no, really). if you can find a copy of this book, definitely read it-and if you need to do a book report about a novel with more depth than the Sweet Valley series, this one comes highly reccomended from someone who averages reading a thousand books a year.

A cool book to read
This book is about a man who runs away from his father because the father does nothing but yell at him. This book is one of my favorites, even though I gave it a four, because it had a lot of action and it made me want to keep reading. Although I still think that the orignal was one of the better ones that have been written.

A Wonderful Book to Read
The book "Rip Van Winkle" is about a guy named Rip and his father, Dame, who thinks that Rip can never do anything right. Dame is always yelling at Rip. Dame really got mad when Rip sold part of the family property, so he went away for awhile and met some strangers and started to drink quite a lot of beer. You have to read the book to find out what happens next.

All Aboard Reading Version
Several of these other reviews are for a different version of this story. The one I am reviewing is an "All Aboard Reading" version. It is definitely written for beginning readers (1st-3rd grade)

This version is a good introduction to the classic Washington Irving story. I do not like the way Rip's wife yells at him to get to work or how Rip is only "maybe...a little" sad when we finds out that his wife has died after his long sleep. Neither Rip nor his wife were the most exemplary characters! :-)

Still, that is the way the story was written and can be a good launch into a talk about character.

Mellow Mystery
A girl named Janie goes to visit her great aunt Cissie in her big old house, and notices right away that Aunt Cissie is not her usual, cheerful self. Instead she is nervous and gloomy, and it's not long that Janie discovers that Aunt Cissie has been getting threating notes in the mail, like "I AM WATCHING YOU". More harrasments follow, like a break-in and frequent phone calls. Janie and her aunt wonder about all possible people who could be doing this and Janie helps solve the mystery.

This is a mellow mystery, not really violent at all. I think it is written for children grades 3-6. I was expecting a teen novel when I bought it since I have enjoyed 2 of Carol Beach York's novels for teens.

Dolls Talk to this Girl!
What a delightful premise that dolls can "speak" to selected listeners (kids only, of course) even while adults are present. This results in natural dialogue confusion, since the grown ups remain clueless to these private conversations. This is a simple little tale of bonding between a little girl in an orphanage and two "rejected" charity dolls. Child and dolls work together to avert disaster on Christmas Eve: by providing each other the best presents--unconditional love and each other! This cute, short fantasy will appeal to elementary girls. York has captured the spirit of a kinder, gentler age in this charmer.

Short But Dull
Mrs. Madeleine Bridgeport and her three children have perfect lives--they're rich, attractive, bright, and energetic. But all of that changes when Mrs. Bridgeport's homely, lifeless niece (Wilma) comes to visit for a couple weeks and has a contagious effect on everyone. At first, you want to feel sorry for Wilma, but after a while of her lethargy, even the reader feels dulled by her. The one good thing about this book, though, is that it's short (128 pages). Yet it still took me a bit longer than I had expected to finish it. The ending isn't very satisfying either, but at least it's not too predictable.

This certainly isn't a book I'd recommend, but if you like short, quiet horror with more atmosphere (fog, dark rooms, nocturnal noises, a broken grandfather clock that only functions at night) than blood and violence, then you might like "When Midnight Comes..." by Carol Beach York.
