A Must Read for the Federal Employee
The book gives examples of typical and more in depth problems in which actual federal emplyees encounter. The author gives specific outlined ways to file grievances and appeals procedures. Also very importantly the author sites the law in which supervisors may be in violation of! Very worthwhile and needed addition to any federal employee's library.

A visit to Christmas past in Pennsylvania.
"Christmas in Pennyslvania" is the best kind of research book! There are many lively and vivid newspaper accounts and diary exerpts combined with Shoemaker's research. The result is charming. I think that anyone interested in general history, Christmas customs, or Pennsylvania would love this book. I did. (Guess what people on my Christmas list are going to receive?)

Nostalgia
I grew up in Lancaster and lived there for many years as an adult. The view of Lancaster and surrounding areas through the eyes of this articulate Quaker made a lovely trip down memory lane; even though the book has recollections of the 1800s. I can still hear the "Dutch" accents at the local auctions, remember the unique cuisine, and see the beautiful farmland in my mind's eye. The author writes realistically and doesn't gloss over the silliness of some of the "Dutch" thinking, (i.e. superstitions and distrust of education) unlike some of the overly romantic writing about the "Dutch" and Amish being written today.

Pennsylvania German Immigrants, 1709-1786 Lists Consolidated from Yearbooks
Published in Hardcover by Genealogical Publishing Company (01 January, 1998)
Author: Don Yoder
Amazon base price: $21.00
Average review score:

Limited interest to those who have Penna-German ancestry.
A book for people with German ancestry interested in genealogy. Transcribed from original records in Germany. Although I love this book most others would find it of little interest. It contains the names of a few hundred 18th Century immigrants from three or four selected areas of Germany to primarily Philadelphia, Pa. I suggest you look at the index in a library first to discover if an ancestor is listed. Though there are parts of the book with general genealogical information regarding the three areas covered, most is applicable to the individual immigrants. If you, like me, have an ancestor listed, the information on the other immigrants becomes fascinating as well since it is an eye into their lives before they came to America. The nice thing is, since it's in English you don't have to learn old German to read it. Besides an index to the immigrants there's one for the ships many of them sailed on to America as well.
