Not all friends are friends for life!
We've all been there. Our faithful and beloved friend has in some way betrayed us. It's hurtful and painful and we react in different ways in different situations. "When Friendship Hurts" is the second and latest book in Dr. Jan Yagers friendship series and a follow up book on Friendshifts®.

We make many friends in a lifetime, but only a few are friends for life. "When Friendship Hurts" gives you insight in selecting friends that are good for you - to select the wolves from sheeps. I especially like chapter 2: 'Detecting harmful people before they are friends'. In this chapter you'll find 21 different types of potentially negative friends. By reading through each type I can easily recognize which types my bad friends from the past are. It can also help you to predict whether a friendship will turn out good or not before bonding.

More insights are such as: why are friends hurting friends? Are there different rules at work? Can we break the pattern and find good friends.

In these days, Jan Yager is finalizing her third book on friendships. The area she studies here is friendship at work. I'm looking very much forward to her coming books.

Great Insight Into Bad Friends
A reviewer, July 27, 2002,
How Friends Affect Your Self-Image
The author's first book on friendship, "Friendshifts: The Power of Friendship and How It Shapes Our Lives" was an eye opener. Most of us just take our friends for granted. Her second book on friendship, "When Friendship Hurts: How to Deal With Friends Who Betray, Abandon, or Wound You," covers aspects of relationships that have really affected our lives from kindergarten on and that have impacted our self-images. What we think of ourselves, Dr. Jan Yager points out, has a lot to do with what our friends think of us. I learned a lot about the possible causes of negative friendships as well as why someone might put up with them. She shows her readers to seek out positive friendships instead of the destructive kind. Anyone who reads this book will never look at their friendships the same way again. Bravo. Enthusiastic Reader from New Jersey

An Uplifting Book on Friendship Change, Loss, & Formation
In her newest book, "When Friendship Hurts," Dr. Jan Yager talks to the reader about topics not often discussed in the friendship literature: the tulmultous nature of the relationships we sometimes have with our friends and the eventual breakup of friendships, even longterm ones. It was a book waiting to be written, and is a welcome companion volume to Dr. Yager's first book on friends, "Friendshifts."

Dr. Yager is a gifted writer who knows her craft well. In a caring and conversational tone, she combines research, storytelling, common sense, and insight to create a narrative that the reader can identify with at every turn of the page. This is a book that is difficult to put down, even for a moment.

Read Chapter 2 and discover the people you should avoid as friends. (Then read through that same chapter to see if you can find yourself. Just what kind of friend are you?) Other chapters will give positive and realistic advice on how to save a fading friendship, as well as letting go of one that has grown unhealthy. Dr. Yager's advice on establishing positive friendships is especially helpful and spiritually uplifting.

To those readers who read this book to help themselves get through a friendship crises: "When Friendship Hurts" will help you tremendously. To clinicians (social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, psychiatric nurses, and others): this book will prove to be a powerful tool in your own practices, used as part of bibliotherapy with clients themselves, or as a sourcebook for other kinds of therapeutic interventions. And to those college professors who need a well researched, well written book on friendship loss and rebirth for your own courses in social work, counseling, sociology, education, and psychology, this is the book for you. "When Friendship Hurts" is one book your students will not return to the bookstore at the end of the semester. It is that powerful. This is a book your students will keep and take with them wherever they work in their professional careers.

And just in time.
I thought this book would change my life. But I never thought it would also... oops... I forgot my watch.

A Common Sense Down-to-Earth Approach To Time Management
I've always considered myself to be a pretty well organized person. My life is full of many projects, both at work and at home. However this book surprised me with many clever and innovative ideas I can directly apply to my daily life to make my many activities go even smoother. The book is very thorough, and covers almost every aspect of a person's daily life where saving Time would be a major benefit. Thank you, Dr. Jager, for writing such a down-to-earth book all of us can use!

Great suggestions, easy to learn and apply in daily life!
Jan Yager's Creative Time Management doesn't talk in generalities. If you work or don't work,if you are young or old, you will find her suggestions practical and easy to apply in your daily life. The major bonus in her book is that she is willing to address the concept that our emotional state of being plays a major part in our ability to handle and manage our time appropriately. So few books include this component. I refer back to the book from time to time, (no pun intended), to specific sections to help me make changes in my own life that will benefit better use of my time. As a professional speaker and trainer, I recommend this book to my audiences and class participants as an excellent resource. We all need a guide like this to read and refer to in order to help balance our busy lives.

A Fun Cat's Tale for Young Readers
My two year old grandson takes great delight in his book collection. He discovered "The Cantaloupe Cat" when he was only 18 months old and it immediately became one of his favorites. It's the first book he hands me to read and he now enjoys sitting on the floor and turning the pages himself. The text is especially child friendly and the illustrations are appealing to grown ups as well. The story of Jerry, the cat who likes cantaloupe, is one children and adults both will have fun sharing.

A book for cat lovers of cats who love cantaloupe
The text is just right for young children and the illustrations are adorable. It reveals a secret for most of the public. Many cats love cantaloupe. Even if yours doesn't, you'll appreciate this book.

A Great Journey
I just finished reading this novel, the Binge, and I really enjoyed it. The author takes the reader on a real journey of self-discovery for the main character. The protagonist (Dr. Emily Taylor) goes through a lot in the story, but so much of what she deals with is internal and has been in need of sorting through for a long time. Emily is a compelling character, and the reader wants for her to be sucessful and happy.

This book is wonderful therapy for anyone (especially women) who has experienced weight or family issues. There is some of Emily in all of us, so we appreciate both her pain and success.

A great read, and a powerful story.

neatly packed, fast paced thriller
This neatly packed, fast paced thriller is a real page turner that should distract the reader from the reality of current terrifying events. It would make an exciting movie.
Two young, surburban couples are long time friends. One pair is ordinary, naive with wholesome values--what one expects from "everyday people" The other couple conceals a sociopathic nature until a shared routine happy hour at a local bar leads to attempted blackmail, theft, mayhem and murder, drawing the ordinary couple into a chilling ordeal sure to keep the reader in suspense.

Fred and Jan Yager Hit the Mark Once More
In their latest suspense-filled yarn, "Just Your Everyday People", the Yagers have gone beyond the crime novel genre to create a work with a literary theme that should challenge any modern reader. That theme is fidelity and how the lack thereof can undermine the stability of the best of marriages or the fondest of friendships. Which is not to say that the book isn't a good read. It's real page-turner too!

Well crafted storytelling
Husband and wife writing team Fred and Jan Yager follow up their first suspense novel, Untimely Death With Just Your Everyday People. With Fred's background as a television executive and screenwriter, plus his degree in psychology and Jan's doctorate in Sociology, they pack enough knowledge to write a gritty teeth clenching story. Fred was also a war correspondent in Viet Nam and considerable experience as a news writer for CBS News and Fox Television. Jan has more than a dozen nonfiction books to her credit, has taught criminology at Temple University and The New School

Just Your Everyday People begins as two couples look forward to a night out drinking after the long work week ends. But what begins as a classic night out in our society soon dissolves into murder, deception, and poor choices. Julia and Paul Stanton meet their friends Lizzie and John in a bar. But when Lizzie seduces a stranger in a bizarre scheme for quick cash, their lives quickly unravel:

"He remembered floating to shore and pulling his bleeding body on to a rocky bank where he lay exhausted, falling in and out of consciousness. But where was all the rest? What else had happened? His memory was like a black hole, an endless void. The sound of a car approaching had awakened him again and he managed to crawl into the prickly bush just as the headlights flooded the bank of the reservoir."

Written tongue-in-cheek, Just Your Everyday People is the sad story of what lurks beneath apparently ordinary people's exteriors. It is also about how easily people make completely bad choices, which can escalate into tragic and terrible situations. From this vantage point, the book is completely successful. It makes the reader cringe more and more as each chapter pulls the characters further into a mire of murder and mayhem. The cover promises the reader a new appreciation of the dark side of people's psyches after reading this tale, and it delivers. The Yagers know how to entrap the reader, as well as the characters in their tales. An entertaining and eerie read, Just Your Everyday People is also well crafted storytelling.
