1362 pages of junk
This book is probably the worst mathematics book I have ever had to use to learn math. I'm sure it would be a good reference because it covers a broad range of topics in its more than 1300 pages, but it doesn't cover them well. Examples are few and lack enough detail to follow and extend the content. I highly discourage any instructor to use this book for an engineering math class. There are much better options out there.

Barrett was a good choice to update the book.
This book on advanced engineering mathematics had been for a long time a sort of cult book among engineering students at Montana State in Bozeman, and was used for MSU's year-long junior course in applied mathematics in the math dept. Apparently, Wylie was getting on in years and wanted a co-author. Having studied applied math with Prof. Barrett at Bozeman, I can definitely say he was the right person to co-author this book, as he has a real reverence for applied math and an insistence upon exact, clear thinking. This is not to say the book is representative of the mathematical style of Western state universities as Wylie got his Ph.D. from Cornell, I believe. Actually, the style reminds me of the books by Churchill, i.e., everything clearly presented with a traditional use of proofs and problems that inspire rather than pander to the student. An extremely useful and enjoyable book for serious students of applied math and advanced engineering.

Pretty Good!
This book cover all those mathematical topics that are usefull for the engineering. The special mention are the chaptres about variational calculus and tensors, themes sometimes not covereds by books of apply mathematics or, if yes covered, not with that special care that this book treat this themes (fast, concise, although the reader must to have the background enough). The exercises are very clear respect of the theory and shows the applications in direct relations whith the different branches of the apply science (Mechanics, Electricity, Fluid Mechanics, Vibrating Mechanics Etc.). I recommend this Book for all those people tha want to learn the Basic mathematics for Enginnering without too much methodologic rodeos.
