A book children of all ages, including adults, will adore.
This is the sequel to "The Lonely Doll", Dare Wright's first photo story using her doll in delightful pictures to illustrate the text. It will delight children from age 2 and above (and charm the adults as well). Why it is currently OUT OF PRINT is beyond me. Best shared with a child in your lap!

Childhood Favorite
I have a tape of my mother (and I) reading this book when I was 18 mos old. She would start a sentence and I would finish it. Now that I am 40 and pregnant, I really want to find a copy of this book for my baby. I hope Amazon can come through! ------------------------------------------------------------------------

A little girl finds a home in a book...
I can remember toddling around my library as a very little girl and finding "The Lonely Doll" at the bottom of the stacks, with it's beautiful pink and white gingham cover. Of course pink was my favourite colour and I loved dolls so I had to learn how to read it. Even though I can't remember accurately, I think this is one of the very first books I read myself. It's such a beautiful book and the pictures... I would kill to own an Edith!

Fond memories
My father died 1 month after my 6th birthday. He used to pick me up from nursery school on his lunch break the year before, and take me to the public library. I still remember those happy moments! While searching through the library shelves recently I happened upon "The Lonely Doll". In an instant I remembered my father and those wonderful trips to the library! I had loved the book but had completely forgotten about it . Seeing the book brought back such a rush of happiness and joy. It was like finding a piece of my "daddy" in that discovery. This is a touching story of loneliness and friendship. the pictures are still so engaging, even for a 40 year old like me! I'm placing my order right now and giving this special book to my daughter for her 5th birthday.

Special childhood memory now passed on to new generation
My mother used to read this book to me when I was a little girl (I'm now 40) and I even have an audio tape of her reading it to me when I was 18 mos and I would "read" along with her, reciting the parts that I had memorized from her many readings. I now have a 3 month old girl and am so pleased to have found an original 1957 edition of this book to read to her. I will also get the new edition when it comes out. The story is priceless and the illustrations (which are actually pictures taken by the author Dare Wright) are wonderful. Its a good story to use to teach about friendship and discipline in love.

Hello Freud
This is not a children's book, nor is it for family-abuse survivors. This is an autobiographical therapeutical photomontage which is deeply disturbing. A must-read for all those who wish to understand why and why people punish children through deep psychological manipulation, and how children use art to recover from their families.

I love Edith and the Bears
I too am so happy to see some of these books back in print to share with my daughter. Edith learns some important lessons in this story about the consequences of being untruthful and playing with matches. Learning important lessons isn't always easy and painless as she finds out. The important thing is that she has loving and caring guidance from Mr. Bear. I hope to see more of these books back in print. I have heard that "A Gift from the Lonely Doll" will be out just in time for the holidays this year. I certainly hope so and look forward to it.

Edith & Mr. Bear
After having read many books in the Edith and Mr. Bear series as a child I was thrilled and overcome with extreme emotion to have found them again. Having two small girls of my own I hope they will love them as much as me and my twin sister did growing up. I also found two of my favorites (Edith and the Kitten, and Edith Learns and Lesson) on a rare books site, and quickly snatched them up. This time I will cherish them and hopefully I will be able to keep them for my grandchildren and great grandchildren. I've been searching for these books for over 4 years, my search is over. Thank You.

a lovely Christmas gift, but...
Like all Lonely Doll books, this story is completely charming and a wonderful Christmas gift for a teddy-loving child. But be warned, the paperback copy I purchased was disappointing because all the photographs were really quite blurry. That is why my rating was only 3 stars though Edith and the bears personally deserve more!

A memory-builder
Dare Wright's classic "Lonely Doll" series books are of their time--Mr. Bear is very much in charge, and Edith questions her own opinions and rights--but they are classic nonetheless. Wright's photography, as always, complements the story beautifully, and perhaps especially so in "A Gift from the Lonely Doll." This story ought to be more well-known and more of a Christmas classic than it is. Edith wants to make something special for Mr. Bear. When she gives it to him, his reaction is unexpected. Still, it sets into motion her willingness to alter the gift to suit his expectations--and to subsequently be left with extra gifts to give! Charming.
