A useful, interesting, and fun book
I was introduced to 'Crime Scene Investigations' while attending a teaching workshop. I ordered it right away for my high school level Criminal Justice class. It is full of experiments which apply to virtually every unit my class covers. With the help of the book, I have set up a classroom Crime Lab, of which I am quite proud. We are able to perform an astounding number of experiments, and the lab causes quite a stir with our visitors.

As a retired police officer, I am very aware of the validity of the lessons presented in 'Crime Scene' and feel they would be of value to any of my students who decide on a career in Law Enforcement.

Excellent way to add excitement to science class
This book is an excellent way to add excitment to science classes. Students get to use hands-on activities to solve various "crimes." The book is well written and easy to follow. It is good for various grade levels. (I use it in 8th grade Physical Science Class as part of an Events Based Science Curriculum. I recommend it highly

Very worthwhile book for a science or criminal justice class
I bought this book to use with my criminal justice class. It contains many simple science experiments which add a lot to the crime scene processing and investigative parts of my class. In addition, it provides short 'whodunnits' which add interest and excitement to the science.

The way no other could tell the story...
the thing that really amazes me so much, is that in EVERY story, after you've read three pages, the personality of the person the story goes about is perfectly clear and stays exactly the same during the rest of the book. As is the case with Mort. And Mr. Shooter. I think mister king should receive a Nobel prize for his work. I mean it. In fact, he should recieve a subscription on the nobel prize so he recieves a price each year. I rest my case.

two thumbs up!!
Raading horror leads a reader to "exciting fear" in general .But king brought up a new frame in this one , better discribed as confusion. For king as a writer himself draws the soul of "mart" , a fully disturbed man(who wrote 6 best-selling novels) trying to accomplish the truth. On the other hand stands an illusion of an exsisting "jhon shooter" accusing "mart" for stealin' his novel.the plot is powerfull enough not to put the book down. The way "mart" thinks to reach for analysis will make your head ache already. the end is a masterpice itself. One of King's best.Perfectly illustrated.

A book that is fit for a "KING"
Great book I couldn't put it down. I read alot of books and this is one of the best I've read yet. I gave all my friends a copy and they all agreed with me that this is a great book

Right on the Money!
We moved to Japan 6 years ago with only a vague understanding of Japanese political-economy. We ran across Christopher Wood's book at a local bookstore. It was fascinating and has proved to be an astoundingly accurate depiction foretelling the events of today. I picked the book up again today and concluded that, short of having a crystal ball, this guy had to have been the lone voice of common sense and sound reason on the planet at the time he wrote this book. People must have regarded him as an oddity at the time. One wonders where he is now and what he is doing.

Highly recommended reading on Japan's economic plight.
Let's face it, many of the "Japan experts" have totally missed the boat. Mr. Wood's book, published in 1992, was "right on the money" and predicted Japan's current economic plight (although underestimating abit the time it would take to get there). This book provides readers with valuable insights into how the Japanese political economy functions (and doesn't function). By focusing on fundamentals, particularly the banking system, Mr. Wood provides the reader with a framework for analyzing the daily tidbits of information coming out in the press.

Excellent Bargain
This book covers a variety of projects and although some may not be exactly what you are looking for they provide a great starting point for customization. Each plan includes a schematic that shows all parts in relation to one another as well as scaled layouts for hard to layout parts. The instructions are well organized and detail helpful hints for each poject. Moderate knowledge of woodworking terms (i.e. dado, rabbit, etc...) will be helpful in uderstanding the instructions, which are very straight forward. I have purchased several project plans from wood working supply houses (which individually sell for more than the price of this book) and they can't compare to the clarity of instruction provided in this book.

Traditional, Country, Early American and Mission styles.
41 projects with diagrams, photos and woodworking tips. TABLES: Coffee table, nesting tables, end table, butler's table, kitchen, drop-leaf, nightstand, early American coffee table, drawing table, outdoor folding trays, picnic and patio table. SEATING & BEDS: Kitchen chairs, patio settee (rustic - my favorite project), adirondack chair, entry bench, garden bench, porch swing, cradle, futon couch and mission bed. WORK CENTERS: Secretary, desk, computer workstation, kid's desk, hobby center, workbench, workshop center, garage work center. STORAGE: corner wall cabinet (curved face), library cabinet, pierced-tin wall cabinet, wall display, bookcase, media center, country cabinet(cover), maple dresser, hope chest, curio cabinet, barrister's bookcase, armoire.

Catrow takes a Thanksgiving classic for a wild ride!
David Catrow takes a Thanksgiving classic for a wild ride! The long and stressful holiday road trip to a distant relative's home, with the car stuffed full of siblings, pets, and food, is a universal experience. In this whimsical picture book, the baby of the family escapes into a joyful, snowy Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, where characters, floats and balloons take on a life of their own. The lively and imaginative scenes keep the pace of rhythm of the text, and Catrow's cool midseason tones achieve the not-quite- fall-but-not-quite-winter effect. An ideal purchase for the car trip to Grandma's - or for the sibling whom you used to draw seat boundries with.

I love David Catrow's illustrations.
David Catrow is one of my favorite illustrators, and he definately puts a new spin on a classic Thanksgiving Day rhyme in this book. . .I especially love the cat!

Victorian Painting by Christopher Wood
What a gorgeous book! I have a rather extensive collection of books on Victorian painting and painters, and this one is the best! Christopher Wood covers everything from the Pre-Raphaelites on through Waterhouse and the Romantics and on to the start of impressionism. It is full of beautiful color and B&W illustrations - many of which are not seen in other books of the same subject. The text is easy to read and understand. Very highly recommended!

Excellent Narrative. Beautiful Pictures.
This is an excellent book with a well written narrative discussing the history and modern situation of the American Wood Duck and its Asian cousin, the Manadarin. This book is a must read for anyone wanting to learn the natural habits of these great waterfowl. Furthermore, the pictures are simply breathtaking. Highly recommended.

Best book on woodies and mandarins ... a real delight !
For anyone interested in woodies or mandarin ducks there is not a more delightful informative book available(I know because I have them all I think). Well written, beautiful photography,a real joy to read.

Milton's Ingenuity
John Milton's Paradise Lost and Paradise regained are enticing, interesting, enjoyable, and thought provoking. Milton creats Satan, he whom we were all raised to hate, as a being not purely evil, but with aspirations just like the rest. More disturbing so, was the way Milton managed to portray God as not only good. This book causes one to think and reexamine everything they have believed to be true since they began studying and learning about their own religion. That isn't always a bad thing.

Absolutely Amazing!
Mr. Milton is without a doubt, a liteary genius! I got intrested in the book from a quote, which I read in John London's The Sea Wolf. Even though, I am only 17, the views presented in Paradise Lost, as well as Paradise Regained could still be used today. I highly reccomend this book to ones who want to know where it all started.

Milton is simply a genius!
I must admit that this has been probably one of the hardest texts that I have ever read ( well in league with Thomas Paine's Common sense). However, it, i.e., Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained by John Milton, Christopher B. Ricks(Editor) also is one of the most beautifully written and well written pieces of literature ever produced. Milton, has a sense for language that can only be compared with the great writers of the literary tradition, e.g., Dante, Shakespeare, and Thoreau. Writers of today lack these skills and cannot write with the same complexity as the great authors of the past. A good example of this when one reads Dante's Inferno or Chaucer's Canterbury Tales.; these stories are both good examples of a lost art that Milton was a master at. The art of writing a story in the form of a poem without the story in question sounding phony or having lines that do not make sense. The story itself, i.e., Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained by John Milton, Christopher B. Ricks(Editor) is very hard to follow if one is not a biblical scholar and most of the angels are new to me ( which does not disturb me a bit, since most people nowadays, do not study the Bible as they did during the life time of Milton and his contemporaries). Overall, I would have to say that this story, Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained by John Milton, Christopher B. Ricks (Editor) is easily one of the most thought provoking stories that I have ever read and I will definitely recommend it to anyone remotely interested in well written literature.

A book for everyone suffering from anxiety
I have been troubled by anxiety for many years and have not been too optimistic about finding a book that would deal with my particular problem. Managing Your Anxiety by Christopher J. McCullough and Robert Woods Mann comes very close to dealing with it. Although initially intended for people with Agoraphobia (fear of open places), the book gives a detailed account of how to manage anxiety using journals, lists, and other methods of making you realize what goes into your anxiety. I like in particular its specificity and the non-technical way in which it explains the roots of anxiety and its effects and, especially, the ways in which it can be coped with. I have used it with continuing improvement in my condition and I can recommend it to anyone who suffers from anxiety.

The most comprehensive book for treating anxiety
The wisdom in this book is simple. Fortunately, it was one of the first I came across when my problems with anxiety began. Using this book as a guide, I have helped myself begin to recover from agoraphobia by taking care of basic physical needs that required change, such as nutrition and exercise, and through exposure work. I believe that recovery does involve healing many of our basic, but neglected, needs. While medication appears to work for some people, the change in consciousness that occurs if you really work through the agoraphobia and your fears, while at the same time practicing ways to manage the panic, cannot be shaken by relapses or regressions where medication invites the possbility of continuing ups and downs. I don't blame people for seeking it, but I don't think it's necessary. This book was the only one I found that had a solid, well-rounded treatment plan for anxiety. Thank you Dr. McCullough!

Managing Your Anxiety
This book's thorough and philosophical explanation of the many factors involved in panic and phobia disorders gave me a much deeper understanding of the roots of my own anxiety. The excersizes in self-care program were an essential tool in helping me overcome a phobia I had for many years. It is an excellent resource for anyone who is struggling with any form of anxiety, panic, or phobia disorder.
