Spirt filled woman
I enjoyed the book and the the pictures.I belive Ann has a Godly spirt because she could have bashed Earl if she wanted to.I am also a , Tiger Woods fan and after reading the book I'm a Ann Woods Gary fan also. This book has the making of a movie!Great job Ann.

At All Costs
I think the book was well written by the person who lived her life with her children the best she could. She didn't bash her exhusband, she told the story like she lived it. She said enough but not too much so you would lose interest. I liked the memories she shared as well as the 18 years she had with a man she clearly cared a lot about.

Fabulous!
This is a great textbook - a fun, readable format for a topic that could very easily be really dry. Other texts I have used in continuing my nursing studies have paled in comparison to this one, which I used in my first course, A&P. Nothing can live up to this. Good job!

the Human Body in Health and Illness
The format of this book is easy to understand...it makes a sometimes difficult subject fun! Students from a variety of academic backgrounds will find this book helpful...it is written with all students in mind. Students with high level academic skills are lead into additional exercises where their skills are challenged. Our college has used this book to train Massage Therapists. We found this text and the study guide perfect for body workers training out of the traditional academic A&P setting. There is an emphasis on providing information regarding contraindications which these students must know in order for them to work effectively with a variety of clients. I highly recommend this book for faculty looking for an Anatomy & Physiology text which addresses classes with multiple academic levels and styles.

Very helpful if you're ACOA.
In trying to find who I am, I've been wondering why I don't know who I am. The theories presented in this book hit home for me, and, while I'm still looking, I think I'm starting to get the "why". Well researched and very helpful. Thanks Barbara.

If you enjoy romance novels, you'll love this!
If you've never seen Out of Africa or read any book about Kenya, this novel will give you a cursory overview of Kenyan history from 1919 to the present. It is easy to follow, its characters are uncomplicated, and it certainly never lacks for plot.

Using simple words and very short sentences, Wood presents the interconnected stories of three generations of two families--the African family of a shamba-living, fig-tree worshipping witch doctor and the veddy British Treverton family of aristocrats who have come to Kenya, taken over their land, and, not surprisingly, torn down the sacred fig tree to build a polo field. The British, as exemplified by Lord Treverton, are so arrogant and insensitive in the course of their decades of power, that the local population forms the guerilla Mau Mau secret society, committing all manner of murder and mayhem indiscriminately against both the British and those Kenyans who reject Mau Mau-style violence.

Eventually, of course, the Kenyans win their independence, but not before the reader is confronted with a series of other overtly dramatic and/or sentimental plot elements: a witch doctor putting a curse on the Treverton family, a wife steadfastly rejecting her husband's sexual advances from the beginning of her marriage, two mothers pretending for years that their own children do not exist, a lover hidden successfully for months in the garden, two passionate interracial affairs between "good" characters, a long-unsolved double murder, several suicides, secret betrayals, rapes, imprisonments, numerous love affairs both serious and casual, a gay relationship, and even the belief of a contemporary female doctor, who has straight hair and "creamy skin," that she is half Kikuyu. For good measure, there are also a couple of graphic sex scenes and a series of genital mutilations. The book is so unabashedly sensational and romantic that this reader found herself wishing the Mau Mau had been more successful.

Black and White and Green
Every book I have read by Barbara Wood is an amazing blend of history, romance, complex relationships, and situations fraught with difficulties and problems to solve. Her characters bind you to them as you share their joys and hardships.

The fascinating setting in "Green City" is the early 1900s in Kenya, and involves the conflict between the rich British Treverton family who wants to establish a profitable plantation, and the neighboring tribal medicine woman who curses them for invading her people's land. Tragedies befall the Trevertons, and they struggle through the uprising of the native Kenyans as they defy the British. Complicating things is the romance between the medicine woman's black son and a young white Treverton woman.

Meanwhile, we follow the heroine, Doctor Grace Treverton, who, separating herself from the aspirations for wealth of the rest of her family, dedicates her life to serving the tribes by providing them with medical care and schooling. Yet even this big-hearted and wise woman is not immune to danger from the revolting tribes or from romantic turmoil involving a married man.

Full of romance, danger, and political and family intrigue, this 700-page book never lost my attention for a minute!

a whole new world
I love this book!! I try to read it once a year. It follows two families in the newly colonized British Africa, one British and one native African, through three generations. Their story is moving, easy to follow, and at times brings me to tears. I don't want to give anything away, but if you are looking for a feel good book, then don't buy this one. If you like tragedies that end in triumph, then this is the book for you.

I expected more! :( !
Maybe I am wrong, but, unlike all the reviews here that give this book a 5 start rating... I woudl give it 4 or even 3 stars.
I bought this book just because of the reviews I read here, and now Im not going to trust them as much as I did before.

Some people say about step by step articles, hmm, yea, ONE or two, really boring ones. I expected to see something like Thom Taylors book " How to draw cars like a pro " which is excellent. But this book is very boring to read, Im a little bit dissapointed about it. Well, I will have to search for more books to find what i expected to find here.

If I knew this book was 1st published in 1983, I wouldnt have bought it. My mistake. Also, I dont want to sound mean, but most of the reviews here about this book are not exaclty correct.

Best I've seen so far
Service was great and the book was awesome. Answered every question I had and taught me things I never thought of.

Excellent book for any airbrush artist
This is an excellent book for any airbrush artist from beginning to advanced. The author does a great job of covering the technical aspects of airbrushing in understandable terms.

The book starts out by detailing all the features of the airbrush, helping you choose which one to buy & then describing how to clean it. What kind of mediums to use with each type of paper is then explained in depth.

Next, actual use of the airbrush, including many practice exercises, are given. How to transfer drawings, construct curves for making masks, and use both color and other painting techniques is demonstrated.

There are not really any step-by-step projects per se, but there is a section on airbrushing the human face in both color and in b/w. A beautiful full-color gallery in the back is a nice bonus.

Nice book... nice reading
As almost all of her books, Barbara takes you to the past and makes you to live there, this is a good book but it has some things that I think are not true, for example it says that Cleopatra was white as milk and in every book of Cleopatra that I have read says that Cleopatra was almost brown, and some other things that in some books are different.
The 2 love stories of Selene are different and I don't know if it could be as easy to forget as Andreas did, but is a book and you read to have fun.

You will be inside the story all the time and you will love Selene for what she does for the people.

cover-to-cover
I have fallen away from reading over the past several years, and I picked up a copy of this book in a bin at the supermarket... and sitting down to read it had no idea what to expect. I read the entire book in one sitting, cover to cover in one evening... because I couldn't stand to put it down. It was fantastic... a perfect combination of storytelling and education...

A rollicking rip-snorting yarn! A terrific read!
There is never a dull moment in "Soul Flame," the story of Selene, adopted daughter of a healer woman who herself becomes a healer and dedicates herself to furthering the healing arts. Selene is also dedicated to unravelling the mystery of her true identity and discovering her destiny. At sixteen, she falls in love with the handsome Greek physician Andreas but... well that would be telling. This book ranges across many of the key locations of early civilization, and Ms. Wood's prodigious research serves the reader well. In addition to lore on early medicine and herbal cures we are treated to glimpses of exotic early cultures. Leanly written, densely plotted and full of fascinating characters, "Soul Flame" never disappoints. If you are like me, you will be hungering for a sequel when you reach the last page. Let's get this book back into print, and -- Ms. Wood, are you listening? -- let's get started on the sequel. A terrific read!

Something is missing
Of course Barbara Wood is an excellent writer, at least for me, but in this book something was missing at the end of it, all the book was perfect, it keeps you reading, but when you finish, is just like that, you finished the book and you don't know what happened with the other people of the book, what happened with Judd? or Sarah? or Adam? or the last expedition to find her?
As in all of her books, with this one you will learn about Australia.

A good, strong romantic epic
This is a good, solid historical romance. I read another review that commented on this also being an anthropological novel, and I think that is also certainly true. The reader does become immersed in the myths, dream life, and very sad developments of the life of aborigines.

The characters are interesting and strong, and one of the real strengths of this for me was that the characters grow and develop and learn from their experiences. There are no present day villains here--just humans who learna s they go along, and I thought that was particularly nice.

There is a strong sense of the landscape and history of Australia here. Barbara Wood's plot also holds together well and comes to a strong resolution.

Generally, this was a very satisfying book. I am reminded of novels by M. M. Kaye, another novelist who blends history and fiction in marvelous ways.

Hooked on this author!!!
Adding to everyone else's comments all I can say is that I could not put this book down. I know I am going to read this book again in the future. I recently purchased the paperback at my local second hand bookstore without any recommendations. However, now I am going to recommend this author to everyone I know.
