This book heals all shattered hearts
This is one of three books I would like to have if I were stranded on a desert island. This book is not only for those of the Jewish faith. Rabbi Wolpe has awaked my own faith and helped me to bond in a new way to God.

A fantastic and insightful book
This book is of value to readers, regardless of denomination, who want to enhance their personal relationship with God.

It also is a great examination of Judaic beliefs.

Excellent book to understand G-d's Love
All my life, I have searching for answers on how I can heal the painds in my heart. Rabbi Wolpe's book "The Healer of Shattered Hearts: A Jewish View of G-D" has answered that search. Realizing that G-D's love for us, even in our seperation from HIM, is a warm loving feeling, hope and healing of our souls.

Wolpe's approach may be Jewish, but you don't have to be!
The wisdom Wolpe offers in this gem of a book transcends Judaism, and really offers creative ways for parents of any religion to open their children's minds (and their own!) to the basic concepts of a loving God who created the world and cares about what we do and what happens to us. It also paves the way for exploration of difficult issues like suffering and unfairness in the world.

Wolpe never gets preachy; rather, he suggests ways to create shared moments with your child not just to teach but to validate his or her views on religion. A child who asks, "Why did God give Moses a speech impediment?" might not need an answer. He might be waiting to tell you, as Wolpe touchingly recounts, "So my sister wouldn't feel so bad" (because of HER speech impediment).

That's the kind of God Wolpe wants kids and adults to share -- a God who cares about us and our feelings, even little girls who stutter. His chapters are at once deeply philosophical and eminently practical. You can tell just by reading this book that Wolpe is a man who knows kids and knows God and sees how naturally the two go hand-in-hand.

Of course, because there's a child in each and every one of us, there is always the possibility that this book can help US re-establish connections to the divine that we haven't felt since childhood. And that, as they say in the credit card ads, is priceless.

Incredible and inspiring.
This is a must read for anyone who has questions on how to interpret religion for children

I was able to make sense from my loss...
When the adoption of two foster children fell through and they left our home, I was heartbroken. I said kaddish even though the children were still alive. I sat shiva by myself. Family and friends were sad with us but most found it too uncomfortable to discuss. My rabbi suggested that I read this book, and I'm so glad I did. Rabbi Wolpe soothed my broken heart and helped me to accept what I could not control. His words gave me the courage to have faith in G-d again, because he made me see that I had an important role in the children's lives.

We suffer losses more often than we like to admit. Rabbi Wolpe enables us to embrace them and use them to make ours and others lives better.

Wonderful wisdom on how to grow from loss
This is a wonderful, realistic book on how to deal with loss in a meaningful way, acknowleding that faith may come and go...and that is OK. Rabbi Wolpe shares his innermost thoughts and fears, drawing upon his own life and it's losses. Having lost my beloved 12 year old son to brain cancer 4 years ago, this book will be a welcome addition to my ever growing library of pieces of literature that will somehow be there to help me make sense of my life---and most importantly, my son's life. Thank you, Rabbi Wolpe.

A universal spiritual guide
From the viewpoint of forty years as a liberal Christian minister, reading Rabbi David Wolpe's MAKNG LOSS MATTER was a pleasant journey. Generally speaking, Christians believe in a future existence beyond death, while Jews do not. Wolpe leaves a door open when he writes, "The soft insistent voice of something more whispers in our ear. Can this be all?" Wolpe's open heart and lucid prose touched me time and time again. I have underlined many of his thoughs such as, "I am a rabbi because there is in me, as there is in you, a child, a child that knows that somewhere we not alone, that this world is bathed in miracles, and that for every pain there is beauty, for every loss there is love, and for every waste there is wonder." All members of the human race can be lifted by his beautiful lines such as, "Refusing to succumb to despair is the greatest act of faith. We may despair for a moment. Darkness seems ascendant. We cry out. But stirring is the certainty that the pain of a particuar loss is a sign of having loved. Where the capacity to love has been, it can be again." Not just for Jews, his book speaks to all who suffer or rejoice.

Takes forever to answer the question and does so insipidly.
Wolpe takes forever to answer the question, "Why Be Jewish." One must first plow through mounds of fluffy and cute prose -- much of it sounding like a bad imitation of Abraham Joshua Heschel. Wolpe waits until the last paragraph of the final chapter to answer the question, but give an answer that can only be described as insipid. Mr. Wolpe apparently believes that the reason to be Jewish is that one should be good and joyful and help the world and be one with God. Sorry, Mr. Wolpe, that is not a reason to be Jewish. That is a reason to be an ethical monotheist, which is all that Wolpe's "Judaism" amounts to. A banal and disappointing work.

Short & Sweet; Eloquent & Profound
This little book is a beautiful read. He describes the essential ideas, attitudes, and perceptions of Judaism with eloquent, if not poetic, language that touches the heart. I am not religious or observant, but I am seeking to find my own spirituality within Judaism. This book goes straight to the heart of Juadaism. I highly recommend it.

Extremely rewarding & short too
I loved this book! In a very few pages, it gives you a sense of why the author, and by extension anyone else, would want to be a Jew. Moreover, the book is written in a beautifully lyric prose, which was beautiful & easy to read. I would love to mass produce this book & give it to every non-Orthodox Jew as well as anyone thinking of conversion. What a treat!

Preparing Your Heart for the High Holy Days
Excellent book. Daily brings you into a deep inner searching in order to come to full repentance--t'shuvah. Not a book to be just "read", but one that must be acted upon daily to bring about its intent--true repentance for each reader, and a closer walk with God.
