A must for horror/vampire fans
This novel brings together works of so many amazing talented writers: Stephen King, Richard Matheson, Anne Rice, Tanith Lee, Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, Algernon Blackwood, Joyce Carol Oates...just to name a few! Be on the lookout for "Count Dracula" by Woody Allen; whether you love him or hate him, this short story is a hoot!

This one lets you sink your teeth into some quick, sometimes chilling, sometimes humorous, sometimes just plain weird vampire stories. It will also introduce you to some incredible authors, and I bet you'll race to buy more of their works. Wolf breaks down this collection into categories: The Classic Adventure Tale; The Psychological Vampire; The Science Fiction Vampire; The Non-Human Vampire; The Comic Vampire; and The Heroic Vampire. Horror and vampire fans will recognize some of these stories (King's is an excerpt of SALEM'S LOT) from other novels or collections. But this one is a tasty treat (yes, all puns intended) that I found delightful!

Excellent Collection of Stories
I great collection of modern vampire stories. Several of the stories are actually chapters from longer novels, which only entices the reader to read those novels too. Wonderful read, but with the lights on!

Great book for promoting self-reliance in our food
This is a great book which I would recommend every gardener, farmer, or citizen interested in their ability to produce their own food read. It is well laid out, with lots of great pictures and illustrations of useful tools and tricks for gardening. Mr. Wolf does a great job of addressing the holistic nature that our food supply should represent, from seed to the table, and back again. It also includes a useful section on companion planting and plant compatability, something I find many garden books lacking. It also does a good job of showing why being able to know the contents of our food is important, and what we are missing becasue of this. Even discussion with the problems of bleached whole-wheat flour is well written. Whether you are a first time gardener just trying your thumb out, or a seasoned planter, this is a book I would have on hand. I also enjoy the slightly earlier gardening perspective, as there is more of an awareness of the whole biosystem of food production, not just the simple how to's. There's also some nice gems of more obscure info that is lost in many of today's books, but I guess you'll have to read this book to find out. Get this book if nothing else (Complete Book of Composting is also good!) Long live gardens.

Good for learning some SRV riffs.
When I started playing guitar some 35 years ago, I would listen to guitar riffs on records and try to emulate what I heard. That was a slow, laborious process, that not only resulted in many scratched LPs, but often I could never figure out exactly what the guitarist was doing. This book, and others like it, takes much of the guesswork out. It does not give you every note SRV played on the songs (I doubt anyone could thoroughly tab Stevie!) but does give the guitar player enough to learn SRV's riffs and how he weaved them into his songs. And the accompanying CD is almost like having a teacher sit with you; much more beneficial than just using a book!

It looses a star for being too wordy and overly technical sounding (kill the adverbs, Wolf). Learning to play guitar is not complicated, nor does it take a music degree to be a Stevie Ray Vaughan (just lots of hard work, dedication, love of music and talent!). Like myself, many guitar players (SRV included) never took time to learn to read music. Just remember, the riffs are in the chords. If you want to learn to play like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Hendrix, or other guitar greats, this book will help. I think Stevie would have been flattered by the nice tributes Wolf gives him.

Helpful
This book really gave me an insight into the basics behind SRV's playing, as a beginner guitarist, it was very helpful.

Solar Food Dryer
Published in Plastic Comb by Rodale Press (1981)
Author: Ray Wolf
Amazon base price: $14.95
Used price: $6.99

Well-constructed book; Materials list out-of-date, though

The Solar Food Dryer book is well organized. The blueprints and cutting diagrams are excellant. The pouch within the book that holds the blueprints after they are detached from the book has meant that my copy, more than 15 years old, is still intact.

The faults lie in the suggested glazing materials for the solar collector. The book was published in 1981, and after a thorough search I have not been able to locate any of the plastic films in the materials list. Feel free to e-mail me with glazing suggestions.

Outlaw Marshall/Wolf Lawman

Fresh and enjoyable
Ray Hogan became a full time writer of Western fiction in `1956 and was pretty active for around 30 years producing well over 100 novels by the early 80's.While not achieving the cult or sales status of Louis L'Amour ,say, his books were widely read and popular.Outlaw Marshall indicates why ,for it is an easy undemanding but not unintelligent read which stays strictly within the traditions of the genre while at the same time managing to avoid staleness or any sense of the routine and potboiling

Its villain is a pint- sized minor lawman,Henry Decket, whose aspiration to bigger and better things becomes more realistic when he captures a notorious outlaw Shotgun Travers, who ,however, manages to escape.Decket is nothing if not tresourceful however and when he encounters the hero of the tale ,Clay Santel,a man bearing a close resemblance to Travers he palns to substitute him for the outlaw and shoot him "while trying to escape".Santell, displaying an understandable reluctance to go along with this notion flees with Decket and the posse in pursuit.
The plot movess swiftly to its conclusion taking in a romance between Santell and the chaste Melissa all being told in a clear uncluttered prose which conveys a sense of pace and intelligence
Its a variant on the old "Chase"plot and enjoyable unpretentious writing
