Experience is still the best teacher
I have finally realized, that there are no easy shortcuts on your way to becoming a professional Access developer. You cannot read one specific book and expect to take a decisive leap forward in your career.

As a typical MS Access "grass root developer", I have learned most of my skills from books, newsgroups, friends and colleagues who work as IT-professionals. But what they couldn't teach me is the reassurance that experience and formal training (i.e. a degree in Computer Science or a Microsoft Certification) brings you.

The answers will come in time when you have developed enough Access applications. In the meantime, if you are looking for some simple guidelines to follow, then you could consider Creating MS Access 2000 Solutions. It is basically a list of work routines and development skills that sets out to bring a touch of experience and professionalism to your applications.

If your applications have reached a size and level of complexity where multiple users, MSDE database engine, replication, transaction processing and user permissions are issues to be considered. Then you learning needs are well beyond the scope of this book.

Creating MS Access 2000 Solutions didn't teach me much when it comes to Access application development. However, it let me to the conclusion that my Microsoft Certification is imminent.

Excellent and Throrough
I bought this book after skimming multiple other titles and I must say that this book, despite not having the word "Bible" or "Complete" in it, was superior to many of those books in the topics it covered and the accuracy in which it covered them. The discussions were useful. I picked up some of the other books afterwards and rarely got more useful information from them (though I am convinved there is no *complete* book out there. . . the microsoft website is a useful adjunct to all of them).

An excellent book!
True to the Sams series, this book is well written, easy to read, and thouroughly covers the topic. As an Access user and developer, I found this to be one of the best books available, and used it to refresh my knowledge of Access. I had no trouble reading it from cover to cover (which should say much for a computer book). It is suitable for all user experience levels, and balances technical content with an easy to read writing style. I highly recommend adding this to your library.

Slapshots Cup Crazy #4
Very good book. Very interesting. It teaches more about hockey.

The best book
I think Slapshots #4 is the best book I've ever read:) It has lots of action and it takes a while to read so you don't have to buy new books. I also recommend the other books in the Slapshpots series.

This is volume 2 of this series
There are four volumes in this series; if you buy this book you will be getting volume 2 (volume 1 was printed in 1987, volume 2 in 1990, and volume 3 in 1992, volume 4 in 2002).

If you are looking at this book, you may already know about Ebla, but if not... Ebla is an ancient city of Syria dating to the Early Bronze age -- ~2400 B.C. In the 1970s an Italian excavation team discovered 7000 cuneiform tablets (busted into about 15000 pieces) in this ancient city. The Ebla tablets contain a new language, and are relevant to Biblical studies for their linguistic ties to Hebrew. Sadly, the publication of the Ebla tablets in translation (English translation) has been slow going -- instead of a book of translated tablets, we have these fine volumes at our disposal. This volume is a collection of technical essays (not all in English) on Ebla and the tablets. Some of the highlights of this book include an article on the gods of Canaan, a discussion of Northwest Semitic studies, and a paper by I. M. Diakonoff on Ebla and linguistics.

This volume is nice, but one is left wanting more (as in more of the actual translated Ebla texts themselves)!

This was an interesting story, which I did not know a lot about. With more terrorism focus in the media today and the troubles in the Middle East a situation like this could come up again. I also liked the detail of this particular terrorist group, which I think is no longer active. Overall the book was solidly written but not a fast paced page-turner. If you are interested in the time frame or particular event then it is worth reading.

Not enough examples. Explanations not clear.
This book frustrated me incredibly during the one year period i had to use it in my schools Algebra class. This book assumes a lot of unexplained math vocabulary as well as insufficient examples in each chapter. If you are someone who learns primarily from examples and sample problems this book will definetely not fit your needs. There is usually one example for each type of problem in the lesson and it is impossible to practice your learning of that problem because in the homework (that includes answers) there is also usually one problem relating to that specific type of problem. I don't know if what i am saying is making sense but DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK unless you enjoy books with no detailed examples, advanced explanations of concepts you have probably never learned, and boring real world connections. After using this book at my school i checked out a few other books and have found that i really enjoy Algebra when i can actually understand it and apply my skills. I think the book is a major deciding point in a students grades. I think more schools should focus on down to earth, but still informative books and maybe then they would see more effort applied to difficult concepts.

Buy A Different Book
When I write this review, I am really referring to both volumes of the Algebra 1 series. I am a college engineering student and just completed my fourth calculus course. For the past year I have tried to help my younger brother in his Algebra class because this book didn't help at all. Examples are insufficient and the book and tests are riddled with errors. The teacher had to work out all the problems because there were so many mistakes that he could not trust his answer key. A sample of this book's terrible teaching method can be seen when it expects students to use the discriminant to find the nature of the roots for a quadratic equation. It simply has students complete a table in problem number 44 or something and then expects students to be able to tell from the results what the nature of roots for a quadratic equation are on a quiz. Few students succeeded in accomplishing this. In the chapter discussing radicals, the definition of a perfect square is never mentioned! Also students are told to tell the difference between rational and irrational roots by looking at their calculator display. Perhaps if you only use this book as a source for problems, it might be OK. But it is nearly impossible to try and learn something from this book which seems to be fixated on providing pretty graphics instead of relevant examples. My advice: Buy some other Algebra book. It is not possible to put too much effort into the search for a good algebra book because algebra is really the language of science and engineering that needs to become second nature. I haven't seen them myself, but I have heard good things about Algebra 1 by Paul A. Foerster as well as Algebra: Structure and Method by Richard G. Brown, Mary P. Dolciani, Robert H. Sorgenfrey, et. al. You might want to take a look at these books.

A pretty helpful book
I bought this book looking for some self help in the subject of Algebra,It's pretty good except that it does not give all the answers to all the questions, they only do a selected amount of answers, this is really trickey if you don't have an instructor to guide you.I would recommened this book to a person who just wants a review in algebra,I would give it a 5 star rating for that use,but only a 3 star rating for self help.
