They don't have many books about Ellis Wilson. He is a wonderful black artist. He did not get his credit due.

I really enjoyed this book. It is the best and only book I ever seen about Ellis Wilson and his art. If you are a big fan of his work like I am don't delay get this book right away!!!

Good book, its a bit outdated by now, but its still a good introduction to the subject, for anybody interested. Especially good for beginners, no jargon in there. If youre starting in your aztecomania, get it first, then look at the hardcore stuff.

Ms. Wilson presents various elements of Arabic designs drawn mostly in black and white. She includes instruction for reproducing the designs and commentary on time periods and original colors used. The only thing that would have made this book better would have been pictures of the artifacts she refers to in her extensive documentation. A must have for anyone doing Islamic or Arabic arts!

While this book does show on some of the designs a diagram showing how the patterns are constructed I found it much too sketchy to really follow out how they were made. I ended up buying a companion Dover book titled 'Celtic Art:The Methods of Construction' to get a better sense of how to make these patterns step-by-step. One good thing about this book is that the source for each design shown is documented. Buy this book and the one I listed above and you'll have plenty of designs to use in your own artwork.
