Reduce student boredom at recess
The Ultimate Playground & Recess Game Book completely lives up to its title and offers classroom teachers, physical education instructors, playground supervisors, youth recreational leaders, and parents more than 170 fun-packed games, sports, and activities for recess and recreational time on the school yard playground, the community park, or the family back yard. Some of these games and sports learned in a school setting or a summer recreation program can be enjoyed for a lifetime. Some of these games will help to reduce student boredom at recess and thereby eliminate a major source of playground behavioral problems. Each game is fully described in a clear, concise, "user friendly" text which is enhanced with more than 150 illustrations to help visualize game directions and setup. An exceptionally useful "Activity Finder" chart makes it simple and quick to find games to meet the needs of the adult supervisors and the children. The Ultimate Playground & Recess Game Book is an indispensable and very welcome addition to any school, summer camp, or family activities reference shelf.

A Wonderful Resource
Guy Bailey has put together an extremely helpful resource that has a wide variety of games that are simple, yet fun. I found it to be organized and easy to understand. Most importantly, my students are having a great time participating in the games used! I highly recommend this book to anyone needing fun and creative ideas to enhance their curriculum. Its great!

Best Resource Since Parenting For Prevention
Best resource since Parenting for Prevention

This book is the best resource I have found linking drug and alcohol use to brain function and brain dysfunction. Best of all, it is written in a way that parents can understand how it applies to their kids and use it. The stress on clear and appropriate communication without fear tactics is itself clear and without fear tactics. The info on drugs is excellent and, most of all, the authors are knowledgeable parents themselves and understand the role of parents and the issues they and their children face around drug and alcohol use.

This book gets across that the job of "prevention" is long-term; it requires the parent to KNOW the subject. The book is 100% reality and is knowledge based rather than authority based. Myths about many drugs are laid to rest. By dealing with facts, parents and kids reduce risk. Whether a drug is legal or illegal, soft or hard, liquid or pill, it's best to know the ingredients, their effects and side-effects.

I worked with kids for 30 years and then with parents whose kids were in trouble with drugs and alcohol for another 10. This book is the best new resource combining experience and science on this most difficult topic in at least 10 years.

Drug and alcohol use are primarily health and safety issues, not criminal issues. Over 60% of kids use, over 60% are not criminals. Just say "NO" has not worked, Just Say KNOW can.

Necessity for Those Entering Substance Abuse Arena
As a college professor at Delgado in New Orleans, La., I found the book to be very informative and fact based for anyone interested in substance abuse and/or addictions. I am using this book as a text for a class entitled "Introduction to Substance Abuse". The authors are clear, concise and discuss various drugs (including alcohol) at differing levels of use. This is an excellent text book for those preparing to enter the prevention and treatment fields. If you are expecting to read that "all drugs are bad", and other typical statements, this book will not appease you. It has value for the professional interested in the field as well as the parent who may simply wish to be better informed on the current trends in the world of drugs and alcohol. Warren J. What educators and parents need to know.
I am a deputy sheriff in a Southern California county of more than 2.5 million residents. For 3 years I have been educating children and adults about the dangers of drugs. Finding complete, factual information about drugs commonly abused was not an easy task. My search was complete when I read "BUZZED." No scare tactics, no outdated statistics, and complete information in both easy to understand language as well as scientific details. I believe it should be used as both a textbook and a reference source by law enforcement, educators and health care professionals. Since reading the book I have had the opportunity to speak to the authors who I find very accessible, knowledgeable and motivated to educate. I hope they will continue their research and I look forward to further editions.

This should be required reading for all teenagers
For being a scholarly text on the effect of drugs on both body and brain, I was surprised when I couldn't put the book down! The approach of the authors (from Duke University Medical Center) is neither preachy nor permissive, just informative. The writing is scientific and accurate, but also very easy to understand. As an instructor for a college course on drugs of abuse, I am thrilled that such a book has been written and will use it in the future. I wish there was a source like this available when I was a teenager. I think this could be the most important book a parent could ever buy for their child.

Outdated theories posed as facts
If you are looking for a book that will explain the uses, and the effects of certain sports supplements and or drugs this is not the book. The book uses scare tactics from out-dated and disproven information. If you are an athlete or have a child that is an athlete and you want up-to-date information on products then you are better off buying a book or a magazine that is written by, doctors that are also athletes. Save your money and buy a book that uses studies that were done after 1999 unlike the 5 year studies used in Pumped.

For Health's Sake
This is a useful, readable description and summary of drug and supplement use and the body's functioning especially written for athletes and those interested in physical fitness. It seems to make an honest effort to give the facts about drug and supplement use and sort out the truth from all the training ads that bombard anyone who uses fitness media. The problem is what most everyone suspects- there are no shortcuts and anything that does effect the body's functioning is a potential health risk. However, those who want all the drugs and supplements to work will be critical of this book because it doesn't tell them what they want to hear and unfortunately will probably continue to use what they want. The authors did a good job of describing the efficiency of the human body. It is such a remarkable machine that it adjusts to any "shortcut" and the effects become counter-productive. The well-known fact that the body starts to store fat when a person diets too quickly is a good example. I know the information in this book will not be accepted by some teens and exercising adults but it is worth knowing and hopefully the recommendations will be followed for health's sake.

Just the facts, mam.
This is quite a remarkable book. It is short, to the point, knowledgable and readable. It tells the truth about performance enhancing drugs and is clear about the downside even for those that work. At the same time, it does not preach and I don't think would be a turn-off for teenagers.

If you have a child who is an athlete, or if you are in competetive athletics yourself, you should read this book. As a physician, I think these drugs are available in most every high school in the country. They are a giant temptation. This book is most helpful to parents, coaches and athletes themselves.

Basic
This book was the not the greatest if you have athletes in your classes. The games were general, some of them would be no fun to use. They certainly are not lead-up games, they are simply games teaching no fundementals of sports.

Easy to use!

This book would be perfect for a PE teacher who is having a bad day and didn't plan the gym class for the next session of third graders. Just grab this book and you will have 150 ready made ideas at your finger tips!

I was interested in a specific sport lead up games and found many new ideas that easily adapted to my needs. Also discovered some interesting ideas to spice up a Soccer Camp.

It's a reference book and so it sits on the shelf a lot but when you need a great idea for activities for kids, you will reach for this one.

I would recommend for PE teachers and youth sports coaches who want to add excitement and fun into practice sessions.

An excellent book which provides ready to use activities.
Guy Bailey provides the physical education teacher as well as the classroom teacher with a complete and comprehensive guide that presents sports lead-up games for over 150 game activities. They are user friendly and the book is very organized and easy to use. My students have really enjoyed these lead-up games. I highly recommend this book. It can also be a great tool for substitutes.

Many voices as one
Quite a broad spectrum of work here. I'm particularly attracted to the more Surrealist efforts of Wilson. I enjoyed the group poems, too, the way all those voices melded together into a single effort.
