Love, Sex & Psa: Living & Loving With Prostate Cancer
Published in Paperback by Tmc Pr (1997)
Authors: Robert Hitchcox, Lester Klein, and Betty Wilson
Amazon base price: $12.95

With a dash of humor
I wanted to read Mr. Hitchcox's book because since my own diagnosis in late November 1999, I have devoted myself to finding material that can help other men with the disease, either at a Cincinnati OH support group or my Web site. There are books about prostate cancer but too few that approach the subject of intimacy, let alone include it in the title. Mr. Hitchcox not only takes it on but with an even rarer - and much-needed - sense of humor. (How often do you learn the year/make of a writer's car in "About the Author"?)

Although Mr. Hitchcox is a firm advocate of including the companion in the process, I was pleasantly surprised to find "The Wife Gets to Speak" at the close of the book where his spouse gives her perspective on the ordeal. More first-person books should take this route because this disease affects more than the man.

The book is short, laced with cartoons and a fast-read but perhaps exactly what most newly diagnosed men need. At that early stage, one doesn't have much attention span. There's also good resources, a list of questions for your doctor and a good, workable index. And don't let the year of publication (1997) stop you from getting it. He gives an attitude that will be needed as long as there is treatment for this disease.

I enjoyed the book well enough to wonder why it isn't listed at more Web sites. It will be at mine with a recommendation to get it - as I did - from Amazon.com.

A skewed story
Just in case you think any of what this writer said is real, I'll bet you that most of it was lies.

Yes, Jack was murdered. Yes, the sisters were tried. The only injustice, however, is that Peggy wasn't found guilty.

You see, the lovely thing about tv shows and books is that they can skew reality into whatever they want them to say. They don't always show what REALLY happened.

You wanna know what REALLY happened with Jack, Peggy, James, and Betty? Why don't you read through The Huntsville Times for the past 10 years? I'll bet you didn't know that Betty Wilson had actually plotted to have Jack murdered at least once before.

Yes, James is a liar, but who knows? He could've actually been telling the truth.

I actually know one of the people who was a witness in the trial. I knew the victim (he was my family's eye doctor). I know what went on, and this book is an all-out lie.

A disturbing book about a miscarriage of justice
I like to read crime books in which, at the end, justice has been done, but such is not the case in Jim Schutze's *By Two and Two*. It tells the story of two Alabama sisters charged with conspiring to murder the husband of one of them. Although apparently neither woman was involved in the crime, one was found guilty and the other was not, because of personal, social and racial issues tangential to the case. In pursuing the investigation, well-meaning police were evidently manipulated and deceived by a career criminal who sought, and won, preferential treatment by helping them make a case against the women. The author himself was clearly disturbed by the outcome

Questions ?
I want to know some background on Betty and Peggy. Maiden name and parents, and siblings?? What city and state they were born in? childhood pictures?

Weej and Johnnie Hit Florida
These are comments I have received from those who've read my novel: "It was so refreshing. The humor was great and the characters were perfect." Pat Wallace, Simpsonville, SC

"The book is wonderful. You should sell it as a movie. The plot is suspenseful, humorous and certainly better than many of the 'family' movies in today's market." Harriette Acorne, Petaluma, CA

"Your book is fabulous." What you have written is "in the vein of Jan Karon, except funnier, or Carl Hiiason except tamer." Betsy Goree, editor of Lonzie's Fried Chicken, Lynn, NC
