Well researched book but too much of a survey
Prof. Brady has clearly researched nearly every single group of Indian Christians in the United States from Syrian Christians all the way to the Pentecostals to write this book. However, he presents it more as a survey than with a clear understanding of the greater issues that face the Indian Christian community in the U.S. today. Still, it is probably the only book published in the United States that gives such an overview of such a subject in a terrific manner.

Great Overview of the Indian Christian Perspective
I am extremely excited to find a book focused on the Indian American Religious experience. As a member of one of the Churches mentioned in this book, I have to say Dr. Williams has hit the nail on the head about the different Indian Christian denominations. For myself, the discussion of the Orthodox Church is refreshing and honest. This is a great book for those who know little about Indian Christianity, and also those who think they know everything about Indian Christianity.

A new beginning of an old story....
The book, Religions of Immigrants from India and Pakistan, is a breakthrough in the subject that the book deals with. The immigrants from the two countries have been an identifiable and contributing factor in the United States from a long time. Even so, they have been ignored and their culture ridculed. This book tries to explain the intricacies of the two religions that the immigrants brought with them--Hinduism and Islam. It also attempts to unravel the cultures of the immigrants life in their own country and their adaptibility in a foreign land. The author lays down a fair picture of the need of the immigrants to hang onto their cultures in an alien land. This, the author believes is because the immigrants have a need to acquaint their children with a life they cherish; an attempt to avoid their children turning to the western culture. The only problem that I found with the book is that the author talks about a specific strain in Hinduism (Swami Narayans) and in Islam (Nizari Ismaili) and two cities in particular--Chicago and Houston. The readers would have benefitted more with a larger view of the religions and in more metropolitan cities.
