Great job, Aber!
This is a very good book. It's about six girls, Allison, Annie, Huzzy, Libby, Shawn and Sarah. The girls board Huzzy's boat for different reasons:

Allison: Allison's mother wants her to get out more- not to spend every waking minute at the mall.
Annie and Sarah (sisters): Pleasure trip
Libby: The trip is a birthday gift
Shawn: Pleasure trip
Huzzy: Owner of the boat

One night, there is a storm that sinks the ship. The girls get most of their belongings, but little hope is left that they'll ever escape.
(I suggest you read ADRIFT before ALONE, the sequel.)
This is a good book for the younger crowd. HAPPY READING!

Adrift!
This is an excellent book about five very different girls who all are sent on a sailing trip in the Caribbean. When a sudden storm swells up, they and their instructor become stranded on a deserted island where they must learn to fend for themselves while waiting to be rescued.

Watching these personalities grow to accommodate each other from their initial despisal is a treat. They must all work together now to survive. There are lessons that can be learned by readers about how to get along with others despite our differences. The book is written on a nice level for fifth graders and above.

Why 5 stars?:
This is an excellent book to show girls how they can get along even with all of their differences. Not only the struggle of the personalities, but also that of survival captivate the reader. The text is appropriate for about fifth graders and above.

A fun book
Six girls are going on a sailing vaction. They all have different reasons for going, and all have very different attitudes. An storm strands them all on a deserted island. They must cope with nature and their own tempers and arguments. A fun book.

What a crazy farm!
Both my 4-year-old and 2-year-old love this book. This crazy, mixed up farm kept my girls laughing and giggling the whole time and I especially liked the fun ending. Both the illustrations and story were wonderful.

When Reality Goes Awry!
This wonderful, wacky, delightful work might well be the perfect introduction to absurd humor on a child's level. In a lilting, rhythmic rhyme (just the type young children love), a little farm girl discovers some strange goings on...the horse is in the pigpen! And so it goes all through the farm, as each set of animals is in the wrong place...and the little girl punctuates each discovery with "Heeeeey Ma!"

The illustrations are simply perfect, thanks to the talents of the fabulous Megan Lloyd. My favorites have to be the cat in the duckpond (as if!!) and of course the last and funniest displacement...the cow in the little girl's bed! Even a very young child can laugh at the ridiculous, and this charming book is guaranteed to provide a belly laugh.

A wonderful addition to a child's library. I recommend it highly!

Horse in the Pigpen
This is the a charming book with georgeous illustrations. The perticaments that this little girl informs her mother about the strange happenings on the farm always starts with, "heeeey Ma........". My kids ages 4 & 8 always giggle when we start a new perticament of, since the bunny is in the cat bed, where is the cat going to go. Linda Williams has done a great job of dublicating the phrase "heeeeey Ma" and getting your child to predict what will happen next. It is quite surprise when you get to the end and Ma straightens up the farm. Look for the mouse!!!!!!!!

Lorenzo Schiavo and Felipe Gravier
Romeo and Juliet

Felipe Gravier and Lorenzo Schiavo review:

We think that Romeo and Juliet tells the story of two star-crossed lovers whose families are in a terrible fight which prevents them from coming together. How far the couple will go to be together becomes the focus of the story. Of his richest poetry. The opening and closing choruses are some of his most outstanding work. Romeo's It is a brilliant love story but not much more. It still possesses however some wooing of Juliet is fabulously written. The Friar gets the best lines. Mercutio is one the best friends of Romeo. It is not as good as Shakespeare has written but it's still a fabulous book and up there with his best work. One part of the play we didn't like was that for the tow families get arrange there two kids had to die.
The English language wasn't finally finished so Shakespeare had the liberty to create words and play with the language, as he liked. That's why It was so difficult to understand what each character wanted to express so the teacher had to explain us each of that words and teach us all the words in that age and told us which were the words in the English of today.

Interesting Storys
This book provides lots of Shakespeare's Storys like "A Midsummer's Night Dream" and "Hamlet" with a children's fairy tale twist. The storys are the same as Shakespeare's, but easier for children to understand. My favorite story was Hamlet because I had just seen the play. A while after we read Children's Shakespeare and it helped me to understand Hamlet better.

Shakespeare is for children too!
Shakespeare is for kids and adults in E. Nesbit's creative mind. I always liked fairy tales, but I couldn't read Shakespeare very well. In Children's Shakespeare E. Nesbit turned his work into fairy tales without changing the story and morals. This book is not much like Nesbit's other books because it was written by Shakespeare, but I bet there are some simularities.

This book was a overall well writen book and I beleive E. Nesbit put a lot of hard work into her books in her life-time. I'm sure if she were alive now she would still be writing good books to this day.

Compelling scholarship with true love of Christ's message.
I have tried to read the Gospels several times, and had always come away dissatisfied, feeling that I was missing the true meaning. This book (and part two) solved that problem for me. Barclay takes anywhere from one to several verses at a time and discusses them in the contexts of the time they were written, the prevailing religious thought, and their admittedly proseletizing purpose. He demonstrates how Matthew took ideas from the Hebrew Scriptures and showed that they predicted the coming of Christ. He also tells that many of these references were inappropriate, but because Matthew was intended for the Jews, this method was used. Beyond this, though, Barclay explains the meaning of the words and deeds of Christ, making opaque parables and homilies clear and compelling. The love of Christ and his ministry to save mankind come alive in this book. Barclay elucidates the message of Christ in a powerful, heart-gripping and understandable way. I am a Jew, and recommend this book to people of any faith if they wish to understand Matthew.

very thought provoking
this book is really good...i especially enjoyed the depth of knowledge and insight. it tells you how customs and manners were relevent to that time period and why people did the things they did during that time. ive been looking for books of this nature for a long time and finally found some. it is a very good book and i will probably buy the entire series.

Thorough yet readable study on the Gospel of Matthew
This is one of the two volumes Barclay wrote on the Gospel of Matthew - each covering roughly half of this book of the Bible. These are a part of his series on the New Testament, where Barclay clearly discusses each section of each book of this portion of the Bible. Each section of the book starts with William Barclay's personal translation of the text and then goes into a discussion of the text, the times, the culture, the people, and the beliefs surrounding the text. William Barclay talks about the Bible in the context of when it was written and how it applies today. It is not surprising that the writings of this scholar hold up now as they did 30 years ago. Funny how truth stays the same year after year - it keeps going, and going...

A WRITER'S MUST HAVE
A college 'writer's course' in one little volume. Concise, well written, enjoyable read . . . an indespensible tool for anyone seriously considering professional writing with style. Should be a mandatory text in any competent university's humanities department.

Probably the best book out there on writing
Ever notice that How To Write books don't practice what they preach? More than a few are badly written, boring, pedantic, and mechanical. Not this book. Here's an extremely well written book, a lively, entertaining AND learned presentation. Even better, it's short, witty, and to the point. This is the best writing book around.. It ranges from just what good writing is , to how the masters engage their readers. It showcases beautiful writing. But also gets down to the basics of how to add to your writing skills and details useful tools of the trade such as Anadiplosis (starting a clause with the last word of the proceeding clause), Anaphora (starting a sequence of clauses with the same word), Anastophe (inversion of normal word order for effect), ...(that's just the start of the A's). Beautiful, inspiring and useful.

Gets their attention
Although you won't look back at this book as one of childhood's greatest treasures, it is a fun book and really can grab the attention and interest of a whole classroom full of kids (teachers, take the hint).

Also, there's something delightful and mischievous about the illustrations that makes kids keep asking for it again.

ANY child would love this book!
My 18 month old loves this story! My "slow" student in class loves this story----read it to the kids with props---someone in the shirt, someone wearing the hat, and someone lifting up a jack-o-lantern! Read it to them just TWICE and see how much they remember and enjoy! A little old lady goes for a walk in the woods and finds the objects of a scarecrow attempting scare her---she persuades the objects to scare the crows out of her cornfield instead! Read it on Halloween day! A must for classroom and at home! Any time of the year!

Librarian and Teacher!
I use this book with my Kindergarten and First grade students. I have a T-shaped wooden frame that I use with my lesson. I pass out articles of clothing...a pair of boots, a pair of gloves, a shirt, a pair of pants, a top hat and a plastic Jack-0-lantern. I encourage participation, chanting and acting out of the story from the students for each part as we read the book aloud. Finally, I place the items on the wooden frame to make a Scarecrow as the grand finale!!!!! They predict the outcome and enjoy the excitement of discovery as we read the book. It is both scary and fun! This is one book I look forward to reading each year!!!!! My students LOVE it!

Interesting approach to evangelism
Before I say anything else, I want to make it clear that I just finished this book and I haven't yet tried Mr. Fay's techniques, although I am certainly anxious to do so.

The author says that this approach is very successful, but it seems to me more than a little formulaic. But if it works, that's great!

I think the idea of having the seeker read the Scripture passages himself is a good one. Although I certainly wouldn't even think of putting a limit on what God can do through the reading of His Word, I wonder what a person would think about the Bible passages if they put no stock in the Bible as the Word of God. There are people who won't be convinced by what the Bible says about itself, and those people might possibly be persuaded by outside sources such as the writings of Josephus and the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Mr. Fay does a good job of telling you what people's objections to the Christian faith might be and how to answer them. He clearly outlines the Scriptures that you should share with those you're sharing your faith with. The appendices are very helpful and William Fay's testimony is fascinating, to say the least....

This book changed my life!
I can't believe how I have been affected by Share Jesus Without Fear. I am a new Christian and I have spent these years in Bible study classes (gathering knowledge) but not knowing what to do with it. I don't know scripture well enough to witness on my own and now that I have read this book, I know God is speaking to me and nudging me. I am now starting on my second reading of the book. I now know how to BE BOLD and to share my faith. I carry it with me in my purse!

Very informative
I have been a Christian for many years, and have always been raised to believe that it is a MUST to share my faith. However,I have never done that well at it,nor had I been proplerly shown how. This book gives you the perfect tools you need to share your faith in Jesus Christ.Buy it!! You will get an overwhelming desire to tell your friends about Jesus. If you feel you don't know enough,or your scared,or you are a brand new Christian, this book is for you! If you are reading this and do not know Christ,I urge you to get to know him! Read a Bible today:Romans 3:23 ,Romans 6:23,John 3:3,John 14:6Romans 10:9-11,2 corinthians 5:15...God has an awsome plan for you! :)

Great USMLE physiology review
The book is excellent because it presents physiology in a very straight forward and uncomplicated manner. The contents and emphasis is more than enough for USMLE though First Aid says that it is slightly weak in respiratory and Acid Base physiology .I found both to be adequate and Renal physiology particularly enjoyable. The book assumes that you have reasonably good basics to follow its outline format and the books relative lack of explanations. But if you had once learned and enjoyed physiology you will enjoy this book a lot and go through it fast.It may not be useful with the course work as different institutions present material in a different way and a review book without much explanation and a possible different approach may be confusing. Perhaps reading STARS Physiology book( I havent checked it) with the course and then using the review for the USMLE could be helpful.Best of luck with the exams.

Great review for USMLE/COMLEX Step 1 and Beyond
I used this book to study for both the USMLE Step 1 and the COMLEX Step 1. The material covered, layout and concise format were invaluable, although the STARS Physiology book by the same author is better if you're not time crunched. The Board Review Series of board texts is excellent and the physiology version is one of the best. Worth the money and a great aide for 1st year students to use during physiology courses.

A very nice PHYSIOLOGY REVIEW book
That's one of the best review books I've ever read. It's very conscise and it contains pretty much everything you might need for the USMLE. The questions at the end of each chapter are NOT asking plain facts, but require quite some thinking, which in my opinion greatly helps one "consolidate" what he has learned. In addition its size lets you briefly review facts just before your exam. If you are studying physiology for the first time, or if you wish to have a more "in-depth" textbook, you might consider obtaining another great book -- "STARS Physiology" written by dr Costanzo.

Alone (Lost Girls, No 2)
Published in Paperback by Scholastic (1991)
Author: Linda Williams Aber
Amazon base price: $2.75
Used price: $0.49
Collectible price: $2.99
Average review score:

Alone is right
This book is the sequel to Alone!, a story of 6 girls who are sent on a week-long cruise that leaves them stranded on an uncharted island with their slightly older Caribbean guide. When this story picks up the girls have been on the island for about 4 months and have pretty much settled in to island though they spend almost all of their time building a boat to carry them away from it. When yet another storm takes yet another boat from them the story starts really losing its momentum and becomes a little far-fetched. the impassible lagoon is suddenly able to have a raft leave and then a rescue ship come in unharmed - it conflicts with everything that had been built up before it.

Aber apparently was not able to fit all of her story of the Lost Girls into one book, but did not have enough material for a true series. The editors should have had her combine the two. The real reason for reading this book after Adrift is simply for some closure.

Why 4 stars?:
The characters have become too similar and boring. The events are more interesting, but become a little fantastic. If you haven't read the prequel, I wouldn't bother with this one. Still, it is entertaining and not poorly written. Anything that gets a child to read is worth having on your shelves.

Alone(Lost Girls,No 2)
I found this book at a store in the mall when I was younger, and I was enchanted by it from beginning to end.The auther writes about these girls in such a way that you feel as if you've actually known them all along. Each one has her own fears and insecurities that she must, and does, overcome.I have taken this story with me even into adulthood.

a great sequel
this book was great, but i never actually read the first book. it wasn't for sale at all. the girls work together and triumph together. an easy and enjoyable read for the younger crowd.
