Watching these personalities grow to accommodate each other from their initial despisal is a treat. They must all work together now to survive. There are lessons that can be learned by readers about how to get along with others despite our differences. The book is written on a nice level for fifth graders and above.
Why 5 stars?:
This is an excellent book to show girls how they can get along even with all of their differences. Not only the struggle of the personalities, but also that of survival captivate the reader. The text is appropriate for about fifth graders and above.

The illustrations are simply perfect, thanks to the talents of the fabulous Megan Lloyd. My favorites have to be the cat in the duckpond (as if!!) and of course the last and funniest displacement...the cow in the little girl's bed! Even a very young child can laugh at the ridiculous, and this charming book is guaranteed to provide a belly laugh.
A wonderful addition to a child's library. I recommend it highly!

Felipe Gravier and Lorenzo Schiavo review:
We think that Romeo and Juliet tells the story of two star-crossed lovers whose families are in a terrible fight which prevents them from coming together. How far the couple will go to be together becomes the focus of the story. Of his richest poetry. The opening and closing choruses are some of his most outstanding work. Romeo's It is a brilliant love story but not much more. It still possesses however some wooing of Juliet is fabulously written. The Friar gets the best lines. Mercutio is one the best friends of Romeo. It is not as good as Shakespeare has written but it's still a fabulous book and up there with his best work. One part of the play we didn't like was that for the tow families get arrange there two kids had to die.
The English language wasn't finally finished so Shakespeare had the liberty to create words and play with the language, as he liked. That's why It was so difficult to understand what each character wanted to express so the teacher had to explain us each of that words and teach us all the words in that age and told us which were the words in the English of today.

This book was a overall well writen book and I beleive E. Nesbit put a lot of hard work into her books in her life-time. I'm sure if she were alive now she would still be writing good books to this day.

it has cool detective gear and a guide for how to be a super detective!

The author says that this approach is very successful, but it seems to me more than a little formulaic. But if it works, that's great!
I think the idea of having the seeker read the Scripture passages himself is a good one. Although I certainly wouldn't even think of putting a limit on what God can do through the reading of His Word, I wonder what a person would think about the Bible passages if they put no stock in the Bible as the Word of God. There are people who won't be convinced by what the Bible says about itself, and those people might possibly be persuaded by outside sources such as the writings of Josephus and the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Mr. Fay does a good job of telling you what people's objections to the Christian faith might be and how to answer them. He clearly outlines the Scriptures that you should share with those you're sharing your faith with. The appendices are very helpful and William Fay's testimony is fascinating, to say the least....

Aber apparently was not able to fit all of her story of the Lost Girls into one book, but did not have enough material for a true series. The editors should have had her combine the two. The real reason for reading this book after Adrift is simply for some closure.
Why 4 stars?:
The characters have become too similar and boring. The events are more interesting, but become a little fantastic. If you haven't read the prequel, I wouldn't bother with this one. Still, it is entertaining and not poorly written. Anything that gets a child to read is worth having on your shelves.

Allison: Allison's mother wants her to get out more- not to spend every waking minute at the mall.
Annie and Sarah (sisters): Pleasure trip
Libby: The trip is a birthday gift
Shawn: Pleasure trip
Huzzy: Owner of the boat
One night, there is a storm that sinks the ship. The girls get most of their belongings, but little hope is left that they'll ever escape.
(I suggest you read ADRIFT before ALONE, the sequel.)
This is a good book for the younger crowd. HAPPY READING!
