The Man from the Cave
My brother-in-law handed me this book one day and said it was worth reading. I had no idea who Colin Fletcher was or what the book was about. I learned a lot about Colin Fletcher, the guru of walking, but even more about a remarkable man who's life would have passed unnoticed had Mr. Fletcher not stumbled on a very remote cave south of Las Vegas Nevada in the late 1960s. This man had come to live in the cave for part of a year and Mr. Fletcher decided to find out who and why a person would choose to live there. Through tough detective work the author develops some leads about when the habitation of the cave occurred and what sort of person lived there. The man in question turns out to be a very colorful prospector and through amazing luck and perseverance Fletcher uncovers his life story. He finds this man to be much like himself. Mr. Fletcher portrays him as both saint and sinner at times, but always makes him human. Quite a good read.

Fletcher's Mystery in a Biography
In my opinion, this is one of the more fascinating of Colin Fletcher's very enjoyable writings. While pursuing an on-going project of walking the length of the Colorado River, Fletcher discovered a lonely cave in Nevada with evidence that a remarkable individual had called it home sometime in the early part of the century. Fletcher wondered who this could have been, and what had led him to this very out-of-the-way location (as Colin Fletcher himself had been led there). Years of research and discovery, aided by a not inconsequential amount of dumb luck, led Fletcher to the most probable identity of the cave dweller, and he also learned much about American history along the way. This book is a real-life mystery; it is a biography of "Chuckawalla Bill" Simmons and of Colin Fletcher himself; and like all of Colin Fletcher's books, it is also a work of philosopy. Not surprisingly, the "Man From the Cave" proves to be a man very much like Colin Fletcher himself.

The best Mathematica book I've seen
The thing that makes this book great is that it lives up to its title and actually demonstrates practical approaches to using Mathematica. It covers the topics I've seen in other books and many that I haven't seen in other books like optimization and file IO.

This is the only Mathematica book I have seen with enough examples and depth to really show what Mathematica can do. The examples and quizzes are very clever and are a great reference to the subtle kind of tricks you can do to make your programs faster, cleaner, and smaller.

A selection of the diverse examples in the book: Chernoff Faces, Monte Carlo Simulations, Cryptography, 3D molecular-structure renderings, an Eliza program, and a discussion and comparison of functional, rule-based, and procedural programming styles.

Takes the first book and elevates learning of Mathematica
Nancy and Colin have brought forward a Mathematica text of exceptional ease in learning. This text is current and has the same easy flow of information that has become the hallmark of this duo. It is well written for a self learning experience or can be adopted to a class setting. Of special note is the presentation of programming techniques, the book starts with the basics and continues to build the readers ability with Mathematica programming.

Comprehensive
This is a great comprehensive book that provides many ways for the reader to learn about North American Native Culture. It has excellent writing, photographs, art description and explanations regarding clothing, geography, norms, drawings, maps, and visual cultural descriptions of North American indigenous peoples. The writing has tons of information, and the photography is stunning. I first read this book after receiving it as a Christmas gift, and it has stayed on the book shelf ever since so I can go over it from time to time.

A work of Art, beautiful photos, high quality paper
I have been collecting Indian books for over thirty years. This book will be one that I will pride in my collection. If you enjoy quality photographs of Native Americans, colored photos of artifacts and printed on the best of paper, you will enjoy this book. I am very pleased with it.

The best book I have read recently on change
The authors bravely explore the false dichotomies of much of thinking about change/transformation. In a short, very readable book, they touch on Leadership, Learning and WORKING THROUGH PEOPLE to achieve enduring change. A good place to start if you are tired of the endless fatuous and puerile books which glamourize and dramatise case examples of the same well-worn companies over and over again. They have humbly distilled the essence of what they believe very unselfconsciously into this great book.

REAL - LIFE & TIMES of an ORIGINAL STORYTELLER
I found the breif account of Hank's life to be one of the most accurate in modern times of overhype sensationalism. It shows and tells about the real down on earth Hank who was all too familar with pain and sorrow as well as love and joy. Like many other Greats, Hanks' life was not a very easy one. It shows Hank as just a regular guy who enjoyed doing his Thing... MUSIC!!!

McGonagall: A Selection
Published in Paperback by Dufour Editions (01 January, 1998)
Authors: William McGonagall and Colin S. K. Walker
Amazon base price: $9.95

Exquisite and delightful bad poetry!
This book is a true literary gem. William McGonagall, Scotland's legendary 19th C. bard, is widely recognized as the world's worst poet, ever. What makes his verse so marvellous is that the man truly believed in his 'talent'. Trust me, you can't write poetry this bad on purpose. He has a strong bent to chronicalling tragedy and catastrophes. This book is fascinating and highly recommended to anyone interested in the craft of words, poetry and literature. And after you have absorbed the art of McGonagall, venture into "Very Bad Poetry" edited by Kathryn and Ross Petras. Authentic bad poetry is a whole new adventure in English verse.

An amazing reference!
A truly amazing reference for any Hebrew student. This book lists _every single_ verb in the entire Hebrew Bible and breaks it down according to its aspects. I can't even imagine all the work that went into preparing this book -- but it certainly saved me a significant amount of time in my studies!

Dual Attraction
Published in Hardcover by Free Press (1993)

A thesis before its time?
Perhaps, considering a 2003 survey published in the Journal of Sex Research that concluded "heterosexuals dislike bisexuals more than gays, lesbians and most religous or enthnic groups," and that women tended to feel negative towards bisexual or gay men and women alike while men were more prone to rate bixsexual or gay men lower than they would bisexual or lesbian women. The earlier "Dual Attraction ..." coincidentally hints of similar findings, but goes significantly further than the more recent survey. Most notably, a distinction is made between the bisexual and gay male although both seem mostly to be lumped together in social and research terms. Maybe because of that, any serious study of bisexuality in particular is sparse. The bisexual male, then, is somewhat "invisible," accounting for the fact that most clinicial and social discussion and advocacy come from the bisexual female. And, consistent with the more recent study, the Indiana University sociologists behind "Dual Attraction ..." also come up with a reason that the bisexual male is apparently regarded beneath the gay male and lesbian and bisexual woman. The bisexual man, unlike the gay male, so the theory goes, is self-focused, preoccupied with sex and so sexually experienced with both genders that he feels superior to all, even the straight man. Add to that the apparent belief that bisexual men gave AIDS to the straight community, and the bisexual's social position plummets. Of course, the conclusions in "Dual Attraction ..." are pre-suppositioned on the hotly disputed Masters and Johnson opinion years earlier that sexual orientation is a choice rather than a biological pre-determinant. Even discarding that idea, however, "Dual Attraction ..." still comes out as something of a pioneering effort in acknowledging the existence and explaining the dynamics behind bisexuality. Perhaps no other published work has gone so far as this research. But is it relevant? Quite possibly, considering various surveys put between 25 percent and 75 percent the number of men in America having sex with other men.

Bisexuality at Its Best!
This is, without a doubt, the BEST work I've ever seen on bisexuality. Kudos to Weinberg, Williams, and Pryor. Finally ... someone who understands.

You be the judge.
This book was preety much like i expected, a display of the greatest architectural works for the last 20 years of the 20th century. As a Rogers, Piano, Gehry and Calatrava admirer the works of other architects that you wer'nt aware of their existance certainly open your eyes, some possibly inspiring, as i know they were for me.

For those people not practicing or learning architecture but admire the beauty, a display of SOME of the worlds most fabulous buildings open your eyes to look beyond the street you live in.

Although this is a fantastic book there are many other fabulous buildings left out, which you would expect. There arn't a lot of images of each building, but how thick can a book be? if you love the guggenheim in bilboa, 5 images certainly arnt going to show you the whole story, as is the same with the getty, or the creativity of calatrava BUY THEIR BOOKS there is so much more to an architect than just one building. How they can award a single prize to someone out of so many masters must be the hardest job in the world.

A must for anyone who enjoys architecture
As a student of architecture who hopes to one day win the Pritzker, this book in invaluable to me. The variety of architecture in this book gives the reader great insight into many different kinds of architecture. It's great even to just flip through the pages and look at the pictures... Of course, the written content is also very insightful and enjoyable to read. This book inspires you to learn more about the 20 architects featured in the book, as well as the future winners of Pritzker Award.

I love this book!
I first saw this book at The Getty Museum. My boyfriend, an architect, picked it out as a great architecture book. The pictures are absolutely beautiful. The architecture represented in the book are some of the most famous in the world and a wonder to look at. From the famous Guggenheim in Bilbao to Falling Water, it's my best buy. It's worth more than the money that you'll pay at Amazon!
