I thought it was great me being a military person and all!
The book was great and I think that anyone interested in military history should read it. It covers a lot of the great leaders of our country and it shows why we are independent today. We would never be free if it wasn't for the brave men who risked their own lives to lead their men into battle. Our country pays great gratitude to these men and this book shows why each and every one of them deserved the honor they recieved. I salute all the great leaders of this country. And all the veterans who fought there way to victory.

What You See Is What You Get
The authors have undertaken a monumental task in attempting to tell the history of various Native American peoples through a geographic prizm. That said, Compton does a reasonably accurate job.

The difficulty lies in the fact that many Native People were semi-nomadic in habit. For example, the Dghelia Sioux people (The Omaha, Ponca, etc) migrated onto the eastern Great Plains from the Ohio River Valley in recent pre-historical times. And the Shawnee, a well-known nation, only settled into their Ohio "homeland" when the original inhabitants--the Miamiwek--felt pressure from across the Appalachians from the whites and Iroquois, and invited the SHawnee to settle in.

Compton has presented recent theories on these and other migrations and eventual settlements with clarity and accuracy, and has done about a good a job as anyone could expect. His coverage of the sedentary peoples (eg-Hopi) is also first-class.

His history has more breadth than depth, but given the scope of the work, that is understandable.

All in all, a very useful resource book.

Meet the Khan: Western Views of Kuyuk, Mongke, and Kublai

Meet the Khan
The latest from historian Samuel W Crompton is a collection of three writings by 13th century western travelers who met three Great Khans, powerful Asian emperors. Friar John, Friar William and Marco Polo describe the magnificence and grandeur of the Mongol court. With them, the reader travels thousands of dangerous miles, bears messages between Khans, kings and popes, and debates the nature of God and Man with Buddhist monks. I recommend this fascinating book to all readers interested in East/West history and true adventure!

Home Again
The cover picture of the West Point Lighthouse on Prince Edward Island, Canada was of particular interest to me since my Grandfather Capt Michael Howard sailed his schooners out of Brae Harbor and used the light as his guide. The lighthouse is now a hotel and restaurant and reservations are a year in advance. I stay nearby several times yearly and have breakfast there regularly. it is a beautiful spot ad you have to be there to appreciate it. When I first saw the text I was so pleasantly surprised that of all the lighthouses in USA & Canada they picked the home area of my Mom & Dad!!

100 Battles That Shaped World History

Overly simplified look at important battles in history!
In the writers attempt to get 100 battles in, he has forgotten to justify why he chose the way he did. Although it is easy to see how most of the battles chosen were on the list there are several examples of questionable choices. The author also writes down to the reader. Most of the book is written at a fifth grade level and is not enjoyable for a true historian.

NOT SO BAD
Some battles were left out but it wasnt BAD. Has some battles that really didnt shape history. Writen in about 7 grade level.

Great book for making history interesting to kids
This is a really splendid book that I bought about two years ago, and which my two boys still take out to re-read. Each battle is presented in a way that teaches a chunk of world history -- who was fighting, why, and who led them. First rate!

A Book that ofended Millions around!!
First of all I would like to know how this book got through being publishes. Who does the author thinks he is for offending the Islamic religon???
The next time he considers publishing sometihing like this, he should ask before doing it...
The thing that did offend me and others was the posting of the Picture of our prophet, why? We ourelves have not pictures him, why does he think he has the right to do so???
Peace,

This book has info that is not authentic
After reading this book, I found out for myself that this book is inaccurate in its text. This book drew a picture of Prophet Muhammad (saw), while no one has yet or EVER confirmed his appearance before. This is a disgrace in the Muslim religion, and this book shouldn't be sold due to it's inaccuracies. This can raise a lot of problems, and also conflict the minds of many readers who take interest in this area. Thank you!

Part of an excellent series by a first rate author
Another fine book in an excellent series.
