A true Classic and a loss to English-speakers
I can't believe this wonderful book is no longer available in the English language. Fortunately my son and I speak German (where Lindgren is held in high esteem and this book continues to be reprinted) but I'd love to give away copies to his friends who only speak English. It is one of the best children's books ever written and movingly deals with issues such as loss, loyalty and courage in a way that is timeless and appeals to all ages. Could some English language publisher please reprint it.

You Don't Know How Much You Need to Read This Book
This story is, well, brillant. It's a saga of brotherly devotion, high adventure, scary places, and glorious times. It's through the looking glass, over the next mountain and around the corner to the place in time where you most want to be, with the people you love the best. It fills a space in your heart and leaves an ache at the same time. And it's good. You know those books that you can't BEAR to have end? The ones where you want just one more page? Well, move this to the top of the list - because the ending, while absolutely perfectly satisfying, leaves you on the edge of your seat wondering what happened next. That's one (of a long list) why it's such a perfectly brillant children's book - your imagination takes it from there. This is not a story to read just once, but over and over, and to share with the people that you love the best.

read it again...and again
I'm thrilled to find out that som many people around the globe enjoy this book. I read it for the first time when I was six years old (I'm now 21) and it's still my favourite novel. Astrid Lindgren has written other stories with similar themes, but this is, in my opinion, by far her best. I feel a bit sorry for all of you who read it as children, and who are not able to read it again, as adults. The way I see it there are two alternatives. One, wait for a reprint, or two, learn Swedish and get the original version!

Astrid Lindgren is a living legend
Do not read this book for your children at night! They will go to bed, but they will not fall asleep as long as you are reading. They want you to read more and more and more... The book is thrilling and written in an intelligent and caring way. Astrid Lindgren, who recently celebrated her 90th birthday, will never get the Nobel prize in litterature. Unfortunately. But she won our hearts.

My son *loves* this book!
We are expecting our second child in December so I checked this book out of my local La Leche League lending library for my 3-year-old son. He loves it! He asks me to read it to him all the time.

This wonderful book deals with the sometimes-negative emotions that children have when a new sibling is born and gives them a realistic look at newborns. It is very positive and gentle - I highly recommend it!

Delightful and entertaining
The illustrations and content of this book are totally captivating. As only Astrid Lindgren can do, she tells a tale with humor and touches your heart as well. My daughter and I discovered this book in our public library and checked it out often, only to be dismayed when it was "lost". We tried in vain to find a copy, until striking it rich on this website a couple years ago. I felt I had found a treasure, and was so happy to have my "new" out-of-print book in my hands. We still enjoy it every bit as much. As with any well-written story, it appeals to all ages. This book may have you chuckling and crying in one sitting. Don't miss it. By the author of the much-loved Pippi Longstocking books.

One of my favorite books from childhood
A magical tale of enchantment...I first found this book in the public library when I was nine years old and fell in love with it. Years later I was able to check out this very same copy long enough to read it to my older two children. Now I am longing to read it to my younger children and have discovered that it is no longer available. Please contact the publisher and bring it back!

This book shaped my life
This is a book, which you will never forget...Astrid Lindgren is such an enlightened writer that reading her books is almost a transcendental experience. Mio my Son impacted me so much that I could retell this book to my friend in great detail more than ten years after I read it when I was a child.

A must!
This wonderfull book should be a must on any child's bookshelf. I read this over and over again when I was a child in Denmark, and now wish to give it to my close American friends; kids as well as grownups. "Mio" together with "The Brothers Lionheart" are the most beautiful children's books ever written. Genuine gems.

Lotta's first book!
This is the first book about the five years old girl named Lotta. She lives at Troublemakerstreet together with her family which concists of her parents and her older brother and sister. You will follow her on her first adventures and see how this clever and very goal-oriented girl takes her world by storm.

Except for a great storytelling, tremendously described enviroments, spellbinding story, it's a jolly good book. I recommend you to get it.

The book my kids wanted read to them every night!
I used to read this book to my children over and over and over. I asked my 20 year old son tonight if he remembers it, he said no. But I think once I find a copy to buy and he looks through it he will remember it. The kids in the book do a lot of everyday things that my kids could always enjoy and identify with. We enjoyed reading the book every night, and none of us tired of it. Lotta was a piece of work! It is very well-written and fun to read to the kids, and never bores the adult who is reading. I will enjoy reading it to my grandchildren, that is why I am searching for a copy to buy now.

Great Book...Not Only For Kids!
Astrid Lindren is not just "Pippi" author! She has many more wonderful children's books and this sure is one of them! It is such a shame that it is out of print... I may be a kid from yesterday but kids today will really love this book too as I did 20 years ago.

Great bedtime reading.
Together with my 6 years old daughter we read this wonderful book by the Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren as our bedtime reading. We read the Norwegian version of the book, as my daughter doesn't understand English, but the stories are the same, and the charming illustrations are by Ilon Wikland in our book as well.

This is such wonderful, old fashioned stories, from a time when the most important task of a little girl was to play with her friends, and the greatest worry was where to find the eggs of the old hen. It is so important in our world today that children can dream themselves into the life like it is in the Noisy Village, where everybody knows each other, everybody are friends, and they live a common day to day life. We love the chapters, and my daughter can never have enough of the stories.

The book reminds me in a way of Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House books, though this story is set in Sweden, and shows us the traditional life of the Swedish countryside from the middle of the last century.

I can recommend this book for parents and grandparents that are looking for a charming read for their kids.

Big fun with The Childern of Noisy Village!
The book I read was The Childern of Noisy Village. This book is about a group of young childern. They do different things every day. One of the girls in the book tells about some things in her life and other people. The childern play and have a good imagination. Astrid Lindgern takes us through the year of six Swedish childern living in a row of three houses North Farm, Middle Farm, and South Farm. Many differnt surprises come through this book. This book I recommend to children and adults. This is a book for people that realy want to hear a child's point of view, and that loves to hear about the country of Sweden.

My 6 year old daughter loves it
I am over thirty, and I found this book too cute. But when I read it to my 6 year old daughter I was surprised by how much she liked it. There is only one book she likes better - Astrid Lindgren's Mio, My Son. Now we are on the third or fourth rereading. It seems to be the perfect book to read before putting a child to bed.

Disappointing - Be Warned: Blows the Whistle on Santa!
Couldn't be more disappointed. To start with the illustrations are disturbing. Both my girls commented that the people looked scary. They all have black holes for eyes. YIKES. We didn't feel connected to or any warmth towards Lotta or any of the other characters. Worst of all, they blow the whistle on Santa (and the Easter Bunny for those who do that one). Considering all the accolades Astrid Lindgren gets for her books, I thought this would be a sure winner. Boy was I wrong. I plan on unloading this book at the nearest Goodwill as soon as possible.

Disappointing - Be Warned: Blows the Whistle on Santa!
I'm utterly disappointed. To begin with the photos are rather disturbing. My girls thumbed through the pages and both said "the people look scary" Throughout the story everyone depicted has black holes for eyes. I also agree with the critics comments that no connection is made with characters. And most disappointing: half way through the story, I had to modify the words because it blows the secret about Santa Clause. I'm into preserving childhood and the wonderful fantasies that go along with that. Reality happens soon enough. I was completely caught off guard and thank goodness one of my girls can't read yet, and the other wasn't trying because our magical Yule celebration would have been blown. I'm unloading this book as soon a I can.

another book featuring plucky little lotta
for all the lotta fans out there, this is a must have book. once again our plucky heroine saves the day when the easter bunny can't make it in time for the egg hunt. the plot line includes some wonderful swedish easter customs and is delightful to read. my two children love all the lotta stories and this is one of their favorites; they ask for it quite often. another wonderful feature are the watercolors by our favorite illustrator ilon wikland. all around a highly recommended book, a real treat for the eyes and the heart!
