THOROUGHLY & DELIGHTFULLY ACCURATE.
This is, perhaps the most enjoyable of all Chinese astrology "love" books! Personally, I enjoy Suzanne's deliciously off-beat brand of humour because she makes me smile while reading. Our good friend fell for a DOG (no pun intended!) who was a Taurus. Being a Sagittarius, she didn't think they had a chance (at best, the Taurus will ground the Sag, while the Sag will bring humour & adventure in the Taurus's life). This book literally led them to the alter & they are VERY happy! She is a Boar - not a bore! - & it just so happens that Boars and Dogs get on EXTREMELY well together and because they found the insight given them via this booklet, they gave their spirits a whirl in unison...

I Found Him!
Suzanne White always tells it like it is. Her new Guide to Love gives you all the information you need to know about a possible mate, lover or business partner. I found my own adorable mate by using this book. And it sure helped me eliminate the dead wood! Thank you for stocking this important reference book. Everybody should own at least one copy.

Where's the hidden camera?!
Actually, my sister read excerpts of the book to me last night over the telephone; so much of the Aquarius-Virgo section (my husband and me) was spot-on that I laughed till I cried. My sister's relationship was also eerily described, in detail. I'm buying the book right now!

Examines the truth about the color line
Crossing the Color Line is a superbly presented collection of stories by Alice Adams, Toni Bambara, and others examine the truth about the color line between blacks and whites, using contemporary stories by novelists to explore the issues and problems. The stories which comprise Crossing The Color Line provide insights more charged than debates and probe issues of politics, class, gender and religion alike.

Highly recommended reading probing issues of race.

Great book on the changing appearance of urban landscapes
This artistic team of Bloom/Hill were my professors while I attended the University of Houston pursuing my degree in fine arts photography. I know the area very well that was documented in this book and this book was a forerunner to the path that other artists have taken since it's publication in the field of ecology art.

It is a GREAT book!
I had never heard of Grace Lumpkin until a friend of mine took a Southern Women Writer's course. She suggested I read To Make My Bread. The book outlines the struggles people from Appalachia had to contend with while trying to reform labor problems. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning more about the formation of unions in the South.

Great for parties!
This is a book people either love, or hate. I myself have studied astrology for years, and I adore this book. Apart from her bad habit of addressing the sign of the hare as "Cat," It's a refreshingly modern look at astrology. After browsing over a copy of her "New Chinese Astrology" at the library I work at, I had to run out and buy this book. 9 times out of 10, the accuracy is stunning. I spent weeks walking around and reading passages of this book out loud to every friend and family member who would listen. It was spot-on with everyone but my sister. In any group situation, it's a great way to start conversations! While the name-dropping is a bit annoying, it's entertaining to learn of all the celebrities born under the same signs (I was positivly giddy when I learned that Tolstoy was a fellow rat!)

It's scary
This book is so spot on it scares me. I have a lot of books about Chinese astrology which are definately more detailed but this combination of Western and Eastern astrology gives a short description of each sign which is totally enough. I like the way the book is structured. Each sign, for example Leo/Tiger or Virgo/Pig is described on 4-5 pages which is perfect for a quick and playful reading. This sounds superficial, but Suzanne White is so accurate that people think I'm making it up when I read their's out loud. Astrology is something you believe or you don't, but I can actually tell certain people what Chinese sign they are by their looks. Not all, but for example women born in the year of the rat all have mouse-like features(examples: Sally Kellerman, Lauren Bacall, Gwyneth Paltrow are all born in the year of the rat) and Suzanne White is really good in recognizing and describing this. The way she writes might seem a bit casual but it's not. She's better than some more "serious" written books on this subject translated from Chinese into English. Just buy it and compare it with your friends and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Surprise! Chinese/Western Zodiac fits a skeptic
While looking for a referece book one day, I found a book of Chinese zodiac written by a Caucasian woman. "Hmmph," I thought, "What does she know about Chinese astrology! If other people's horescope fits my life, then she's an idiot." So I read, the year of the ox, pig, rat, tiger, dragon, and none of them fits mine. "Wow,it can't be." But it was, the year of the snake fits me almost perfectly. Since then, I'm a Suzanne White fan. My friends enjoy reading about themselves & about their spouse. The book is good in that: a) reveals your strength and weakness, b)demonstrates strength in one situation can be a weakness in the next (real life) c) shows the profession best suited to your friends and how many of them are actually in that profession, d)how the love, family, business, home, decoration, personality profiles fit you. The book probably works best if you read your horescope to your friends & family, "sometimes, one is not the best judge of self." Surprising this book even accurately points out friends who had a drug history. Simply put, this book nailed too many things down to be completely coincidental. Overall, this books is fun, informative, & insightful. Sincerely, Jenny Santo

Chinese Astrology Plain and Simple
Published in Paperback by Eden Grove Editions (22 September, 1998)

Suzanne White has her animals mixed up...
Seems many hate this lady for her opinionated writing and overflowing ego. I can't stand her view on astrology for another reason. What's with the whole cat thing? Anyone who's a rabbit, like me, knows we're rabbits and not cats. The story of how the rat caused the cat to be left out of the 12 animals (which it WAS)is widely known in China. Don't be led astray by White. Too bad if she wants cats to be in the Chinese Zodiac so badly she's going to try and rewrite it; one egotistical jerk alone cannot change the ancient truth.

A CLASSIC!
Suzanne White is really the high priestess of Chinese Astrology. Some people might not like her breezy style and those personal anecdotes she throws around, but I LOVE her writing and her simple way of presenting complex information. For once, I understood what my Dragon sign means in real life. I am a better person for owning all of Suzanne White's books - especially Plain and Simple. It's a classic!

THE BEST CHINESE ASTROLOGY BOOK EVER WRITTEN
This one's a classic! I cannot tell you how old my first copy is, but this book has been a permanent resident on my bedside table for at least 20 years. It used to be called CHINESE CHANCE. But apparently Suzanne White changed publishers midstream and re-published it as CHINESE ASTROLOGY PLAIN AND SIMPLE. Whatever happened,it's a fantastically funny and easy-to-read book, full of pungent stories and anecdotes about people of each Animal sign. Bt the time you finish reading it, you will not only know the basics of Chinese Astrology, but you'll know lots more about yourself and those around you. I never let my copy out of the house. It's my second Bible.

Not so good
Admittedly, I didn't read the whole book, looked up a few case examples of crossovers from eastern and western astrology and found her concepts to be cynical and uninformative.

very precise overview
It is the only book on chinese astrology that I have read that is so close to each person and animal sign that match so well. Astonoshing. Very entertaing to read.

The Best Book on Astrology Ever Written in Human History!
...or at least I think so. And some people say I'm awful smart.
The book divides us humans into twelve categories. Each
category corresponds to an animal. Then we are all divided into five more categories. These are wood, fire, earth, metal, and
water. So all of humanity is divided into sixty categories.
If I can be serious for a moment, which isn't easy sometimes,
this is a very good book for business and human relationships.
It is not the definitive book on business and human relationships. It has to be used properly. In a fashion to understand others and situations. Not to judge,
moralize, or condemn. I do think that Suzanne White is the
best astrologer alive. I think that I have explored all the popular writers in the last thirty years. The very best book
on the subject, I still believe, is Suzanne White's "The New Astrology." That book and this book make a good team if used with discretion. In this book, we are entirely exposed to the
subject of "Chinese" Astrology. She gives a description
of the twelve animals. This is further divided into the sixty
when we add the elements. She gives a future outlook for
all animals up to the year 2008. The book is large. Over 500
pages. This is mainly because of the range. By this, I mean that one can use this text for fun or for very serious matters.
The range of this book is what I think seperates it from other
Chinese astrology books that I have seen. Some are "cute."
Some take themselves deadly serious. This book is versatile.
It's also a bit hard-hitting. The author doesn't believe in pulling punches in regards to her descriptions of personality types. Nor is she careful in sparing our feelings in regards
to our relationships. She descibes one relationship of mine as
a "catastrophe." It is this clarity and the versatility which
make this and "The New Astrology" good fine texts for business
and professional people who simply don't want to get into "all that." Namely, astrology. For those who believe that astrology
does indeed hold something that is valuable and useful, but
who don't want to examine why, I can think of no other author who can help us. Help us to get into the "real stuff" of the
subject while not getting our hands dirty with "the stars."
Buy this book and "The New Astrology." Don't tell anybody that you do put any value on astrology. And consult them when you feel that
some insight is necessary. Thank you and keep clean and do right.

My favorite
One reviewer writes: "If you want a real book on Chinese Horoscopes, check something else out." I did. In fact I checked out about 20 other books on Chinese Astrology and none of them are as good as this book. Although I have a couple which are more detailed with charts and so on and are better for understanding the technical aspects on Chinese Astrology.

This book concentrates more on the character description of the twelve animal signs. Suzanne White has a very personal way of describing the characters, but that makes it easier to identify to it. Ofcourse you could describe the signs very unpersonal, like a fortune cookie is written, but then again she calls her book the NEW Chinese Astrology which already indicates that it is somehow different than other books. I find the personal way of describing the characters actually more helpful. You realize this more over the years. But despite of that, this book is very accurate and Suzanne White really knows Chinese Astrology. I also highly recommend Suzanne White's book "The New Astrology" which combines Eastern and Western Astrology.

CHINESE ASTROLOGY AS IT APPLIES TO REAL PEOPLE
This book is one of Suzanne White's absolutely best efforts at making us aware of who we are and how we behave thanks to our Chinese signs. It's full of anecdotes about real people who are Monkeys or Horses or Pigs and who actually act like their signs.
There's no mumbo jumbo astro talk here. The New Chinese Astrology is chockablock with informantion - and it's fun to read. This book is a permanent part of my self-help library. Get it today. You won't be sorry you did.
