Wonderful reading for all guitar enthuiasts.
In The PRS Guitar Book, Dave Burrluck describes in detail the evolution of PRS Guitars, the renowned company founded by expert guitar maker Paul Reed Smith in 1985. The PRS Guitar Book showcases every artistic and technical facet of these exquisite instruments that sold to an enthusiasts clientele for $2000 and up. The PRS Guitar Book is enhanced with lavish color photography, anecdotes and reminiscences from Smith, famous guitarists, and PRS employees, collectors and fans. The PRS Guitar Book is highly recommended, wonderful reading for all serious guitar enthusiasts, professional or amateur.

Highly recommended for dedicated guitarists.
This numbered limited edition may not reach all audiences but it provides an excellent survey of the PRS guitar built by Smith for a range of famous players. Gorgeous full-page color photos abound as do engrossing technical explanations of the guitar's development and history. Chapters covering construction techniques are particularly involving. Highly recommended: any avid guitar player who appreciates books on guitar making should have this keepsake edition, enclosed in a handsome slipcase.

Beautiful and informative
This is a very beautiful book - beautiful in itself and the PRS guitars showcased here. The photographs are large and clear. The PRS models are comprehensive. The quality of the book is very good. It's large-sized and it's thread bound in the spine. Unlike those bound with heat glue, this book will surely last. According to the publisher's information, it's a limited edition in quantities of 6000 only. This is a book that a PRS guitar owner should consider buying. For those who admire the workmanship and the beauty of quality guitars, this is a very good book to read. Shortcomings: the photos are up to a professional standard, but many of them are accompanied with a white bar in the upper body of the guitar due to shinny reflection. This effect can illustrate how shinny the guitar can be, but can be quite obstructive to the eyes. A final word of caution: Beware of the temptation that one would buy a PRS guitar right after reading this book - which can be far more expensive than the book itself!

A Child's Delight!
The book is lovely and contains ideas and recipes for sharing a tea party with your special little girl...even a darling miniature tea set is included!

It's Time for Tea! ^.^
A marvelous thank you to Susan Wheeler and Mr. Kortepeter for their beautiful work in creating this book. Wonderful artwork with that adorable Victorian setting, delightful recipes for teatime and useful tips for tea parties. Highly reccommendable for all tea lovers.

Sipping and Reading
Like most people, I was drawn to this book because of the artwork. And while the drawings are first-rate throughout, it was the writing that really got me hooked. From the seasonal stories to the recipes to the Holly Pond Hill Gazette entries, this book is a delightful potpourri of words. My hat's off to Paul Kortepeter for his inventiveness and to Susan Wheeler for her vision. I can't wait for the next book! Ciao.

No other reference like it.
This is my second copy having bought the first edition in the 80's. Finally I have a copy with the color plates! Anyway, if you're a fan of the guitar you have to have this book. If there's anything "wrong" with it, it is that it is now ten years old and I hope Tom Wheeler has plans for a new, 2002, update. I'd buy that one too! I also hope he gets around to mentioning Kustom guitars from the late sixties ( he hasn't so far) and I thought they looked cool back then.

One of the Top 10 Guitar Books
This book has got to be one of the top 10 guitar books on the market today. It covers all the major and lesser known U.S. guitar makers from A to Z, including history, models, specs, biographical info, and more. The sections on such well-known brands as Epiphone, Fender, Gibson, Gretsch and Rickenbacker are particularly interesting. With hundreds of great photos throughout, this book is one of the most comprehensive and well-written books available--a must for all guitar lovers.

Essential guide for the guitar collector or hobbyist
This book was given to me as a gift. I have referred to it often to answer questions for others, and just to learn about various guitars that I've had interest in. It's like taking a trip to a great guitar store to look at a huge stock of new and vintage guitars. If only I could reach into the pages and actually play each guitar...I would be in heaven.

Indispensible tool for all guitar collectors or hobbyists.

Witty and heartwarming
This book is beautifully written & illustrated. Every child with a sibling will identify with this book--and so will their parents! It sends a great message, too. Best of all, "Hugs and Kisses" shows profound wit and characterization that's lacking in many modern kids' books.

The colorful rabbit drawings by Susan Wheeler are adorable
Siblings can't decide which one the mother loves the most, so they decide to hold a contest: whoever receives the most hugs and kisses before sundown is their mother's favorite child. The colorful rabbit drawings by Susan Wheeler are adorable in this intriguing story.

A great book, but a lousy review... read on
I must say first off that I love all of the Holly Pond Hill books, and rate all of them 5 stars. The drawings, writings and overall reading are pure joy! But.... I was extremely disappointed upon receiving this book because it is the same exact book as "Tea with Victoria Rose". Only the title and cover are different. I was very dissapointed that a usually reputable publisher would try to dupe me this way. I do recommend the book for Holly Pond Hill fans, because it is a good read. I just will be more careful in the future on my purchases.

He walked with Jesus, known then as Apostle Paul.
This is not only prophecy with reference to other great prophecy, but a story of a man, and "Source" you call God.

A journey through a mystery school, the greatest mystery school of all - earth.

The author was well chosen (by the Source), for it is a good read for anyone and covers many aspects of human life, giving many insights.

It is pointed out that a prophecy fails to serve it's purpose if it is fullfilled. The message is empowering and hopeful, throughout the book.

We may quickly realize our own power to shape destiny, a qualitative, genuinely revolutionary transformation awaits.

Without question this gift is of God for all to read.

Read and enjoy this unusual love story!
This book was a very quick read, as I have found all of Mr. Evans' books to be. While at times the writing did seem a little lengthy and the plot contrived, I very much appreciated the message behind this book (and all of his books, for that matter). This latest work was indeed a quick read, as I finished it in two readings. The story is quite enjoyable although at times I kept mentally picturing Ali McGraw and Ryan O'Neal (albeit in reversed roles) as Faye and Michael. The book gave me pause as I reflected on Esther's comments on old age and how certain decisions in one's life can indeed be pivotal experiences.

This is a must-read for fans of Mr. Evans and it shall receive a place of honor in my library next to the "Christmas Box" series I own. Read and enjoy!

I HAVE CHANGED AFTER READING THIS BOOK
I have heard of Richard Paul Evans, but have never read his books until now. I recieved The Locket in a fed ex package from my step-daughter. I read it in one night. Start to finnish. The Locket is a story of a longing heart and a yearn for love. It is a story of valuing every moment of your every day life. Is about the enduring qualities of hope and forgiveness. When I read the last page I was left in awe. The book has changed me. For anyone who has experienced the redemption of love, you will identify with this book. The Locket is the best book I've read in years, and since reading it, I have put all of Evans' books I've missed at the top of my Christmas list.

A Wonderful Story!
This is the only book I've read by this writer, but I will definitely read more of his books. It is a very well written and beautiful story. I couldn't stop reading it once I started. It is also a very quick read because of the brief chapters and the way that it is organized. Although it was a quick book to read and a fairly simple story, I still felt I had been challenged in thought by the time I finished the book. I also had a good cry in the end. Can't wait to pick up another of his books.

Gift and Mystery (Wheeler Large Print Book Series (Cloth))

Should your son be a priest?
As you might expect from such a great person, the Pope's book provides few insights into the Pope himself. He does show how our own lives can influence others, especially in a cumulative way, as the he tells of all of those who influenced his entering the priesthood. He cites the religiosity of his father; the holiness of Jan Tyranowski; the writings of St. John of the Cross, St. Teresa of Avila, and St. Louis Marie de Montfort; the devotions in his parish, to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and of the brown scapular. The reader can't help but wonder if there is a link between the lack of devotions today and the lack of vocations today.

A priest's life is challenging. He must be attentive and sympathetic; critical and watchful with regard to historical developments; a giver of Christ; a spiritual father -- especially in the Confessional; holy; constantly training, studying and updating; promoting the family; defending mankind; in dialog with the youth; in dialog with the culture; intellectual and scholarly; and living the Gospel.

But a priest's life is most rewarding. The priest is "a steward of the mysteries of God." An essential part of his mission is fulfilled in the Confessional. The priest is an essential being in the only suitable offering that man can make to God, the offering of God-made-man, an offering made at every Mass. The priest is so united to Christ at Mass that he is "in the person of Christ." What a beautiful reflection on the Mass is offered by the Pope!

The challenge of the priesthood seems overwhelming. It would be without God. It is "a mystery of divine election."

Every parent of a potential priest should read this book.

A Loving Gift to Priests and Seminarians
'Gift and Mystery' is indeed an affectionate gift from Pope John Paul II to all those who pursue a priestly vocation. It is the story of his own priestly call which is a Divine gift as well as a great mystery. On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of his priestly ordination, the Pope reflects on his own growth in his vocation to priesthood and his ministry as 'a shepherd of God's mysteries'. We follow him through his college studies, his job in the stone quarry, his love for the theater and his theological studies to his ordination to priesthood. His deep faith and reliance on God, his gratefulness and kindness towards others, his devotion and dedication to the priestly commitment are all laid out before us with clarity and love. As he himself says, what is related here belongs to his "deepest being" and "innermost experience". Every priest and seminarian should read this and draw energy and inspiration from this 'Holy Father' and spiritual giant of our day.

Honesty Testimony from an Honest Man
Pope John Paul II is an intellectual giant, capable of holding his own with any great thinker. However, JP2 has been blessed with an ability to relate his innermost longings and ideas to even children. Gift and Mystery is a recollection that can hold the interest of any scholar while making a schoolboy smile. The pope methodically retells his soul's desire to be united to God and to follow His will as a young boy, employing a most vulnerable state of being to the reader. We follow the pope through his college and seminary days with delight until that wonderful day this man was ordained a priest of the Lord. With clarity and love, JP2 gives us a taste of the power of the Holy Spirit transforming him into the glorious leader he is today. At the same time, it gives us a hope and a vision of what God can also do in our own lives. A true masterpiece!

The history and origins of cosmology
Want understand what Stephen Hawking and his colleagues are talking about, but have no idea about the history of cosmology? Then this is the book you're looking for.

This collection of texts taken from writings by Plato, Copernicus, Galilei, Ptolomy, Einstein, Hubble and other theorists discus what the universe is made of, how it works and (ultimately) what our place is in the Grand Scheme of Things, offering good insight into how our knowledge of the universe has developed over the last 40 centuries from Babylonian times to the 20th Century.

As this book was originally published in 1957 and reprinted in 1965, the latest theories are not included. It is therefore not a book for mathematicians or physicists interested in learning the latest theories, but rather a book for those interested in a well-written, general introduction to the field of cosmology.

Great edutainment of the universe ...
July 7, 1999 I would like to take a minute to thank Audio Scholar for putting together this audio novel which consists of 4 essays on the theories of the Universe. I thoroughly enjoyed it as did my 17 month old son who gets to listen to them to as his bedtime stories. One night he kept me up until 2am until I turned the tape back on! Normally he just gets to listen from 8 - 10pm. I would like to encourage Audio Scholar to produce more of these types of edutainment audio programs on tape or CD. In many instances I wouldn't mind seeing the programs extend to 4 tapes or CD's. I love listening to scientific books on my way to work and also love to share them with my 17 month old son as his bedtime stories. My budget for this type of audio edutainment is $1,000 a year and the more science and physics books abridged the better. I would love to see the following subjects abrigded to audio for distribution through Amazon.com. Maths, sciences, physics, astrophysics, geology, any and all space related topics, gravity, unified field theory, electromagnetics, electronics, microproccessor design, optics, micro-optics, electro-optics, light and the theory there of, satellites, satellite orbital mechanics and related theory. I do not have time in my busy daily schedule to read very much, but do I have five hours a day to listen and learn. If you make it I will support it. Arnold D Veness

The Select (Wheeler Large Print Book)
Published in Hardcover by Wheeler Pub (1994)
Author: F. Paul Wilson
Amazon base price: $25.95
Used price: $2.20
Average review score:

The Select(ion)- Love Story or Thriller?
Wilson has written two books, and combined them into one called The Select. He combines a love story between two medical students with a thriller about a medical conspiracy. We spend the first half of the book reading about Tim and Quinn, the two medical students, and how each likes the other. Tim is hitting on her in a playful way hoping to gain her love. She is always thinking how she'd like to be with him, but she has her studies so won't act upon her feelings. Throughout this we get a little dose of the conspiracy, but nothing really happens. Finally, Tim and Quinn realize their love, and the book changes focus to the conspiracy. The only real aspect of Tim and Quinn's "happy time" love is sex in a nearby hotel mentioned for about half a page. Then comes the conspiracy where the two lovers are seperated from each others and we really get to meet the "bad" guys. None of the "bad" are really evil, they think what they are doing benefits mankind. These characters, from the Senator, to security guards are great. They are complex people doing what they think is right, even though they know they would be arrested for doing it. I would have like to have seen these characters, especially Dr. Alston, developed more. Instead we get a 'this is why I'm doing what I'm doing' speech so the reader has a basic understanding of Dr. Alston. I would have liked to have seen what made him believe that what he is doing is the right thing. Overall, this is not a bad book, it just could have been much better. If Wilson had developed Dr. Alston to the length he developed Tim and Quinn, Wilson would have a much better book

The Select
I came across a gem when I purchased this book at a thrift store. Wow!! What a medical thriller. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat. You never know where F. Paul Wilson will take you. This is a great book--a guaranteed suspense read.

One of the best works of fiction I have ever read.
The mere possibility of the events depicted in F. Paul Wilson's book 'The Select' makes one of the best, and scariest, books I have ever read. The book is written with knowledge that could only come from a man with first-hand experience in the medical profession. This novel is a page-turner from the beginning. It picks you up and sweeps you away, leaving you soaked long after you've finished. Wilson does not clog the pages with medical mumbo-jumbo that would leave the seasoned reader confused, but delights your senses with clever innuendoes and metaphors. This is a must-read for fans of medical thrillers.
