A Well Story of A Battered Wife's Escape-A+++!
Bobby Salton knows she can't take her sadistic husband's abuse for another day. So at the beginning of the story, she takes her little daughter Penny when the monster isn't home and runs. Driving away in her half-working car, she finds refuge in a rambling house on the Connecticuit shore.

Hired as a live-in companion to Alma Ogilvie, Bobby helps the retired headmistress regain her independence. But Bobby's battered appearance also has a startling effect, especially on Eva Rule, Alma's niece, a successful author.

Three very different women grapple with dreams of haunted pasts, and yet form a tenuous bond. Just as they begin to look to to the future, the past catches up with them. Bobby's husband, for one thing, is still on the run looking everywhere for Bobby.

A very absorbing book and hard to put it down.

If OnLy ShE cOuLd StAnD Up FoR hErSeLf~
3 women...3 pasts...3 futures...what will happen to Bobby when Joe finds her? Or will Joe find her? Bobby and her daughter are being abused by Joe, Bobby's husband, they ran away to get away from the abuse. Bobby found a job as a "care-taker" and she nurses an old lady named Alma...who loves children. Alma's niece, Eva, is a writer and quite good...until she stopped writing about things she love...so in the end...will Bobby and Penny be able to stay away from Joe? Find out for yourself and read the book!

Not for the faint-hearted
There's nothing superficial about the female characters in this book. Starting with the little girl, Penny, and moving to the eldest woman in the story, each unique character is described with increasing depth and detail. The same cannot be said for the depth of the male characters, but at least the good guys outnumber the bad. Be prepared for some VERY realistic perspectives on domestic abuse from every possible angle: the victims, the abuser, the children, and the friends.

Four-Wheeler's Bible review
I have no experience off-roading at all. I am in search of a decent off-road vehicle to access my new cottage that is in the bush. I bought this book to learn about off-roading and what to look for in a vehicle.

I does not talk about specific vehicles at all, the author tries hard to avoid that. It does mention all vehicles a bit, but never says which is better or anything like that. If at all, it's a little US biased towards US built vehicles.

It does however give good overviews of many different things like differentials, tires, wheelbases, vehicle lengths, gear you should have, lifting, etc. All in a general way.

It's a good book and I feel it was worth the money. Good luck!

Eye-Popping , Entertaining & Educational
I'm telling all my friends about this book. It's the most complete, in-depth book on 4-wheeling I've ever read. It's packed with so many eye-popping color photos, at times, I thought I was actually on the trail. Jim Allen's down-home style had me laughing out loud. Whether you've been 4-wheeling for years or just bought your first SUV, you won't be able to put this book down.

The 224-page book covers everthing you need to know before, during and after 4-wheeling. Topics include: attitudes and ethics, preparation, emergencies, beginner to advanced mechanics, tires, traction, vehicle modifications, tools, equipment, recovery techniques, navigation and much more. In his unique, tongue-in-cheek style, Allen talks about testosterone poisoning, Chop Suey Mud, vehicular hemorrhages, the battle for traction, what's the diff, manhandling, and the winching hall of shame. You'll learn such things as when anti-lock brakes are dangerous, what to do when a spotter holds up two clenched fists, how to safely step over a winch cable and how to avoid embarrassment by having that one piece of equipment every 4x4 should have.

Don't miss this chance to capitalize on Allen's 28 years of 4-wheeling experience. His credentials include time as off-highway-driving instructor and master technician for Land Rover as well as twenty years wrenching his own vehicles. He is an accomplished photographer and has written six books and nearly 1,500 magazine articles on 4-wheeling.

The best guide to off-road driving there is
This book really tells you almost everything you need to know to go four-wheeling. Even if you've never done it before, this book will start you out easy. But the more technical information is there for more advanced drivers. It also has lots of great photos and the explanations of techniques and buildup tips are very clear, yet very detailed. This is a book that will make you ready to grab your keys and hit the trails.

Dynamics of Isshinryu Karate

Introduction to Isshinryu.....
...and that's really all its supposed to be. To really study the art, you must practice it - not read about it. Thus, the book serves as a basic introduction to Isshinryu and reference material to new students and those practicing there katas alike. However, the book pails in comparsion to actually meeting and talking to Master Wheeler about his experiences as a 10th Dan, but the book will tide you over till you can talk to the master yourself.

look inside
This book well be very helpful for the person who is able to LOOK INSIDE the authors meaning. Tech of KARATE are not always in front of you, you must talk to your kata ( as the author indicates )in order to understand the application of self defense through the practice of kata.Find this book and enjoy! also look for the first 2 books of collection they will help in your studies...GOOD LUCK !

Master J.L.Cuevas 6th dan

Traditional Isshinryu
Traditional Isshinryu what more can you say.... Use Master Longs books and tapes and you will the learn the true traditional way. Master Long wanted his students to use these books as their text so that Isshinryu would not be changed.... If you are a Isshinryu student you have to get these books, they are great for reference. Use them and Isshinryu will stay traditional. (In Traditional Isshinryu there is only"ONE HEART/ONE WAY")

Medal of Honor: Profiles of America's Military Heroes from the Civil War to the Present (Wheeler Large Print Book Series (Cloth))
Published in Hardcover by Wheeler Pub (2002)
Authors: Allen Mikaelian and Mike Wallace
Amazon base price: $28.95
Average review score:

A major disappointment
I couldn't wait to read this book. Any book which honors the actions of our veterans is a "must read" for me. But I was greatly disappointed by this work. While I enjoyed Mr. Wallace's introductory essays, I was confused by the politically correct agenda he presented in the selection of some those who earned the Medal of Honor. Also, Mr. Mikaelian's prose is awkward and laborious: I didn't think it possible to take such incredible acts of bravery and make them almost tedious, but this is exactly what happens here. Spend your valuable time reading well-written books like "Flags of Our Fathers" or "Ghost Soldiers," which give proper homage to the legacy of American heroes. Mikaelian's book does not do them justice.

A MIRROR OF LIFE FOR THE FEW
Like everything else in life, this book tells about sad times and happy times due to the fact that a military man was awarded the highest honor for valor this nation offers. This book gives descriptions of the battle event that was reponsible for the medal for a number of veterans from the Civil War through Viet Nam. The writing is interesting and points out what some men are capable of when their back is against the wall. If you like war stories, this is a winner.

The Human Side of the Medal
There have been many books written on the Medal of Honor, and this effort was an enjoyable read. The most important aspect managed to show a human side of the recipient. Each chapter covered a person who earned (not "won") the medal; the author did a very good job in tying in other stories of recipients pertaining to a campaign or battle to carry on the story.

While some of the stories are well known, others were not, and this is what is needed. I have seen several of the deceased recipients' graves at Arlington National Cemetery that are covered in this book; Edouard Izac's story is amazing in his continuous efforts to gain secrets of submarine warfare while as a prisoner of war in WWI, along with his escape attempts.

The book manages to show that while these men (as well as the sole female receipeint, Mary Walker) were indeed brave in their actions, they are mere humans that have lived in wealth or poverty, and encountered success as well as failure.

I would have given the review five stars if the book was illustrated; as I believe that it would have assisted the reader to put a face with the name of the recipient. While reading the book, one may want to visualize the person they are reading about. If you enjoyed this book on a more human aspect, I would also recommend "Beyond the Medal" by another Medal of Honer recipient, Peter Lemon
