A Math Lover
This is a great book for math haters or math lovers. There are lots of interesting facts, games, and riddles, whether you think you are great or think you are terrible at math. If you hate math, this book can change your life. We have a copy of this book at home, and I've purchased this book to give to some of my children's friends and some home-schooling parents I know. I think giving this book to anyone who is afraid of math, whatever their age, is a great idea. I also highly recommend "Math for Smarty Pants", also by Marilyn Burns.

I used to, BUT NOW I DON'T
This book make you to love math, to know how to see the nice things in it. If you want your kid to love math, (or at least not to hate it...) you owe him this book.

Great book
Lots of fun things any kid (or grownups) who might or might not hate math, but has a openable mind. All three of our kids have enjoyed things from this book, and I've used some of the activities with 9th graders. Highly recommended.

Get this for your children!!!
I was given this book as a child. It was one of the best gifts I ever got. Every child should have this book, and every parent should read it, too.

I still own my copy from 16 years ago!
I just pulled out my copies of this book and The I Hate Mathematics Book! to show to someone. I read them both prolifically from years 8-12 or so, and to this day pick them up occasionally. I was curious to see if it was still in print, and pleasantly suprised. My copy of this book is so well worn, the cover is falling off of it.

The Book of Think, simply put, is a book that teaches critical thinking skills. The puzzles are fun, and sometimes a bit surreal. The skills learned are invaluable. I believe this series was recommended to us by a gifted education teacher. They strongly shaped my formative years. I remember staying home and reading these two books, and others in the series. They are loaded with practical problems and hands on tools to use. I am sure that a teacher could find lots of great activities for students with these books.

Quick, click on the link and purchase this book, Hate Mathematics, I am not a short adult, Blood and Guts, The Reason for Seasons, This book is about Time... get them all before they are out of print. You won't be disappointed. It may be the best purchase you have ever made for your children and/or students. Maybe even yourself! I think I'll reread them all.

Lisa

This book is not just for kids!
This book is one of my favorites for group activities, ice breakers, and getting a staff team to start thinking creatively. It is perfect for anyone who likes a challenge and the answers not just handed to them. I have given these books as gifts to adults and see them use the exercises over and over. Highly recommended. (Maybe even your kids would like it.)

Math? FUN??? You've GOT To Be Kidding
"Oh, I can't make math fun for my kids. Besides, I don't have the time." Oh yeah? You don't need much time. This book shows parents fun and easy ways to introduce children to math concepts while in the car, in the bath, in the kitchen...just about anywhere you can think of. Filled with games and activities, the book shows how you can turn everyday objects and routine events into learning adventures for kids. Extremely valuable!

Eenie Meenie Miney Math
I agree this book is so outstanding that it is a crying shame that it is no longer published. This is a small paperback filled with colorful, amusing, illustrations and loaded with wonderful and easily implemented math/play ideas for the preschool crowd. It is useful for parents who want to explore the world of math together with their child and have one whale of a good time doing it. It is a wonderful resource for preschool teachers and can be easily adapted to Kindergarten and First Grade Math Curriculum. Anyone who is familiar with the work of Jean Piaget will treasure this book.

A crying shame that these are no longer printed!
This whole series is so good! Great illustrations and each page chock full of ideas to teach your child in any setting. I play some of these games with my son while we are driving down the road, in the grocery store, at bathtime, etc. Wonderful and fun ideas for even the busiest parents. These authors really know what works with preschoolers!

Cute book with a sweet message for older siblings
This cute little book is ideal for an older sibling who wonders how things will change when a new baby comes to live with the family. The book also includes a very nice, appealing portrayal of breastfeeding and how older siblings will still get Mama's attention while baby is nursing.

A great book for children with baby siblings.
This book will teach kids that having a baby brother or sister isn't all that bad. This book shows that if children just wait, their baby sibling might actually be fun to play with when they are older.

Grandmother from Massachusetts
Great fun! Activities require very easily accessible materials that educate and entertain. We took this book to a family reunion and had everyone from age 8 to 88 trying to do the experiments the scientific experts claim are Impossible. Now, every time my grandchildren (ages 6 and 10)visit, this is the first book they drag off the shelf. This is a timeless winner!

This is a great book full of science challenges.
Bet You Can't is a wonderful tool for teachers and students. Science is presented as fun challenges. It can be used in the classroom setting in many ways--as independent centers, and as science process presentations. Students are amazed at the activities. This book helps students understand science in a fun.

Nate the Great and the Big Sniff

Missing: Detective Partner!
Nate the Great is a detective and a guy known for being able to find lost things or solve mysteries. However, in NATE THE GREAT AND THE BIG SNIFF, Nate experiences his most personal mystery of all when Sludge, his dog, detective partner, and best friend, ends up lost in Weinman Brothers, Nate's favorite store. Since no dogs are allowed in the store, Nate has to leave Sludge outside. Nate goes inside to buy a gift for Sludge and has to stand in a really long line. Worried about his doggy partner, Nate goes back to the entrance to check on Sludge and finds that Sludge is gone!

Marjorie Weinman Sharmat is the author of over twenty Nate the Great adventures, including NATE THE GREAT STALKS STUPIDWEED, NATE THE GREAT AND THE BORING BEACH BAG, NATE THE GREAT AND THE HALLOWEEN HUNT, and NATE THE GREAT AND THE MUSHY VALENTINE. She has written dozens of books for young readers. She named Nate the Great after her father. Her books have been named as Children's Choice books and Junior Literary Guild selections, and been picked as Books of the Year by the Library of Congress.

NATE THE GREAT AND THE BIG SNIFF is written as a chapter book, something the last few books in the series have changed to. The change is welcome because the chapters provide brief bits that can be read while on the go, and they all end up with cliffhanger endings that make the young reader want to pick the book up again or the young listener want to sit down and hear more. As always, the author presents a very real mystery with very real possible solutions before ultimately solving Nate's latest case. The usual cast of Annie and Fang and Rosamond show up in the story, and Claude puts in an appearance to round out the neighborhood. The way that all of the group bands together to help Nate find Sludge is really great and heart-warming. Over the years, Nate has been bothered by these people, or presented hard mysteries by them, and it's good to see that they help him out when he needs it, and that they actually care about Sludge. When the case is finally solved, Marjorie Weinman Sharmat and Mitchell Sharmat reveal that Sludge is every bit the detective that Nate is. The full color illustrations by Martha Weston are detailed and expressive. This is a truly great book for young readers and parents who love to read aloud to pre-readers.

Young readers will enjoy the whole Nate the Great series because the tales are told in a familiar fashion and involve a solid cast of characters that return book after book. These books are also some of the best to choose for read-alouds to pre-readers or for the last story before bedtime because they can be read in just a few moments. The Nate the Great mysteries are fun and addictive for both parent and child.

Can Nate think like a dog to solve the case?
Nate is a great detective and depends on his dog to help him solve cases. But Sludge is lost inside a department store, and this time Nat's on his own in solving the case of a missing best friend. Can Nate think like a dog to solve the case?

IT'S SOOOO GREAT!!!!!!
I have read the two Owen Foote books that she has written so far and they are both ABSOLUTELY STELLAR!!!!!!! Even though I am 13 I have read both many times. The lessons in life they taught me are spectacular and I learned so much about how to be a nice homo sapien. I wish Stephanie would write many more books in this spectacular series!!!!!!!!!

I Think that this is a great sequel!!!
I am the authors son, Oliver who is meant to be the inspiration for her writing the Owen Foote series. I think that my mom is pretty good at understanding children like me and trying to write realistically. She does not know that I am writing this, but I hope one day she will see it. I remember the happy day when she sold the book, and I am proud for her. I think that all young soccer players will enjoy this book.

I love it
This book is Great!! Because it`s about two kids that have a tree house in the forest. They take a nature book, a compass, a canteen, pepper flakes, and a hat.But two other kids are in their tree house and wreck it. So the two kids set traps to scare the other boys. I like it because I like Owen Foote books.

Modern Daniel Boone
This book, Owen Foote, Frontiersman, was an enjoyable book because of the different events that Owen faced. These events allowed me to connect with some of the things that he encountered. Most young readers would be able to connect to having a friend like Joseph and the what Owen and Joseph encounters as frontiersman. The organization of the book was easy to follow and the sentences were easy to read and understand. There are a few pictures in black and white throughout the book, but these are not necessary but are handy for readers to connect with the event taking place. Young readers, boy or girls, that were interested in the outdoors would take a great liking to this book.

Awesome!!
This book was FANTASTIC! I have three children aged 4-10. They all read it and loved it, including me. My nine year old son liked it the most. Stephanie Greene is and exeptional author and she writes so fluidly and perfectly for kids. I encourage her to write even more books because we have enjoyed this one and the others so much. Thanks!

Great book, bad reading level rating
The book is great but it should be rated for 12+ instead of 9-12. The book goes into abstract concepts very hard to understand for a 10 year old. I bought it for my daughter which is the best of her class in math and she was very frustrated with the book. To really appreciate the book you need a very good grasping and confidence with the basic operations, fractions, powers and geometry, that means well beyond the years where your kid is learning those topics.

Great Resource
This book has gotten more kids fired up about math than anything I've seen. The engaging format shows kids that math is more than arithmetic - it's fun, it's cool, it's a blast! Even kids who are afraid of math will be hooked! I use it with 3rd and 4th graders who regularly ask their parents to buy it for them. They actually ask for a math book - go figure!

A Math Smarty Pants myself
(...) We have a copy of this book at home, and I've purchased this book to give to some of my children's friends and some home-schooling parents I know. I think giving this book to any math phobe, whatever their age, is a great idea. I also highly recommend the "I Hate Math Book", also by Marilyn Burns.

Solution Kit #1

great ideas-overwhelming presentation
Laurel Mellin has discovered an amazing method that addresses the issues that underlie the various excesses that people indulge in (overeating, drinking too much, etc.). She has boiled the remedy down to the acquisition of 2 basic skills that are clearly and simply stated and explained well. She also makes it clear that although these skill are simple, they are not necessarily easy to obtain as they require dilligent practice. One of the wonderful aspects of her method is that she speaks of turning off the drives for these excesses-finding a cure, not just imposing another set of rules and guidlines that one has to employ in order to "white knuckle" it through the tough times. I loved her books but was very disappointed in her kit 1.
The first 2 CDs overwhelm you with the various aspects of her full program. While she tells you that you can turn off the drive to go to excesss, on the CDs she recommends a diet and exercise program, that you quit smoking, join a group and even change your job if necessary. What starts out as the acquisition of basic skills, is suddenly an extensive and costly 2 year program. What starts out as an internal solution becomes an intricate network of external and in many cases, costly "support". She also insinuates that if you do not opt for the professional support option, that reaching your solution (being cured of the desire to go to excess, etc) will take years longer. I was very inspired by her book and felt very let down and almost duped after buying her kit.

Best thing that ever happened to me was using this book.
This book helped me in so many ways, it was worth every cent and more. I have lost weight without trying and kept it off. I have taken control of so many aspects of my life just by learning these principles and applying them every day. I don't think about what to eat 24 hours a day any longer. I exercise regularily and I love it. I think like a thin person and I eat that way as well. I don't feel deprived at all. I started journaling as part of the program and I use it every day to find out who I am, what I'm feeling and grow more. All my life weight has been an issue and I believed there was something wrong with me. I had tried every program out there and nothing kept the weight off without medication till now. After working through this program I was relieved and overjoyed to know there was nothing wrong with me. The only thing wrong was that I never learned the six valuable principles in this book till now. If there is one thing you do for yourself this year, it is to buy this book and work through the program.

The Real Cure for Weight Problems and Other Excesses
I am a registered dietitian with a masters degree in Public Health and 15 years of experience working with folks with obesity and overweight. I've I definitely noticed that overeating is often accompanied by other excesses such as overworking and overspending. I also noticed that providing nutrition knowledge did not address the roots of overeating. My clients are intelligent, successful, competent people. They were frustrated that the couldn't "get it."

Finally, through plenty of research on the most effective treatments for obesity, I learned that it is a lack of connection with the self that is the root cause. We must go inside, bring up our nurturing voice, have reasonable expectations, and take out emotional trash. It sounds simple. And it is. The skills are easy to learn but must be practiced everyday. Kit 1 teaches you how to do just that. It's the indispensable companion to thebooks The Pathway and The Solution. Doing Kit work is how the "pathway" comes alive. A tremendous amount of research and experience has gone into this method to get participants through it quickly, safely and effectively.

I personally have completed this journal and was amazed at how my inner nurturing voice and my reasonable limits improved. You'll learn how to do feelings checks and feelings letters. An Imagine section helps you visualize and retrain your emotional brain for living a nurturing life, knowing precisely what you need, making requests of others, having positive and powerful thoughts, etc. Emotional balance (no more false highs and unnecessary lows!) is one of the first changes you'll experience. By gaining these skills, your drive to go to excess fades and eventually goes away completely. People who have gone through the Solution method can vouch for this. Plus, scientific research documents the effectiveness of the Solution Method (--I needed that validation to be able to recommend this program to clients.)

The CD's are tremendously helpful in walking you through the steps of the pathway. By listening to other people practice the skills by "doing cycles" you learn by example.

By the way, Kit 1 has additional information not contained in the books, and vice versa. If you're serious about ending your drive to go to excess and reaping the rich rewards of balance, intimacy, and spirituality, I recommend purchasing both Kit 1 and The Pathway. One last note: I've looked around pretty thoroughly and I haven't found any method that comes even close to the power, effectiveness and thoroughness of the Solution.
