And now, a little about the book, since there's no real explanation:
It centers around twenty-six year old Captain Benjamin Barney, an American privateer who (at the beginning) is in a British prison. After escaping, he meets up with the Virginian Joshua Harris (who's thirty), of Harris and Co., and his sister-in-law, the beautiful English widow Lady Douglass (who is twenty). Barney and Douglass become romantically involved, while Joshua pressures Barney into going back into privateering, something he is opposed to doing. And somewhere during that time, a seventeen-year-old French girl, Lucie, becomes Douglass's maid-servant, and a charming little romance between her and Joshua sprouts.
Eventually Barney concedes to Joshua's suggestions, and sails for Stasia, a little island--practically lawless--in the Caribbean that is his "home-base"--for lack of a better word. A good amount of action occurs periodically, especially once Barney goes back to privateering, in command of the vessel "Athena." And the rest I won't say--don't want to give too much away. ;-)
Overall, a great book in my opinion; the type that a member of either gender could read and be pleased with, though some women who like and are in support of a strong female character (like me) might be disappointed. But, like I said, if you can look around that, then you should enjoy it.
