Grandslam
The editors cover all the bases in this chronological history of pre-Lewis and Clark western exploration. Beginning with Cabeza de Vaca's perilous journey across the southern U.S. in 1528 and culminating with the horrific massacre narrative of John Jewitt's shipmates and his eventual capture by the Nootka Indians off Vancouver Island in 1803, this book is teeming with adventure and excitement of early day exploration. The reader is lured into narrative excerpts from the de Soto and Coronado expeditions, personal accounts of Sir Francis Drake, Pierre Radisson, Father Louis Hennepin, the La Verendryes, Jonathan Carver, David Thompson, Alexander Mackenzie and many more. These men sacrificed countless nerve-racking and frightening hours of survival in the unknown wilderness from Indian hostilities, weather, shortages of food, water, etc. The book not only opens new territories in real life exploration, it also opens endless new worlds of reading possibilities for armchair exploration enthusiasts.

One of the few great western artists...the best.
I have recently viewed and read the newest book by James Reynolds. There are just a few of the great western artists painting today with the attention given to the detail of that period. Great book Mr. Reynolds. I've always been a fan of yours...and enjoy reading, looking, and re-reading and re-looking at your art. Thanks...Norman D. Catlett

Good text for intro, general analytical course(s)
We use this text (now in its 7th edition) for both our Analytical I (chemical analysis) and Analytical II (instrumental analysis) courses. They are both 1-semester courses at the sophomore year, and this text is just the correct level and length to cover both courses. There are a number of broad sections, each of which is divided into several chapters. Roughly the 1st half covers chemical methods and the second half covers the instrumental methods. There are also a few chapters devoted to statistical analysis.

The sections are reasonably independent and can be done in pretty much any order, giving a great degree of flexibility. The text itself is easy to read with numerous descriptive diagrams. I say this for second-year level courses - the text is too superficial for higher levels. There is a good mix of descriptive chemistry to give the student a feel for the chemistry behind the analyses. Finally, there are adequate exercises at the end of the chapters, some of which are cumulative with previous sections. There is also a very handy tutorial on the use of Microsoft's Excel for use in a course like this, including some specific exercises in using the spreadsheet. I find it very helpful, and not at all exclusive for those using Excel since Quatro-Pro (and Lotus?) is very similar and contains help files that translate from Excel parlance.

My biggest issue is lack of a section on mass spectroscopy. Skoog's own "Instrumental Analysis" text has a fine section on mass spec, but this text contains virtually no mention of the technique, in spite of the fact that it is an increasingly important technique for both quantitative and qualitative trace analysis. However, that's the only real negative point - this text is very good and useful for 2nd year level analytical courses. (P.S. students find it straightforward and clear as well.)

OHP
I want to buy OHP film of this book. But I could not find the way. Please let me know to order OHP for this book. If OHP for Instrumental analysis is avaliable, I want to order that too.

A Worthy Alternative to Skoog and West's Fundamentals of...
This text is a worthy contender to the classic "Fundamentals of Analytical Chemistry' by Skoog and West. I feel it is easier to read, and the examples given in the inserts should provide students with a "real world" need for the topics covered. The coverage is very similar to Fundamentals of Analytical Chemistry. The example problems and homework problems are illustrative and challanging. The experiments presented in the final chapters are well documented. My only observations for improvement would be the use of more detailed analysis of some of the insert examples. For example, a battery technology that is discussed in a step by step fashion in terms of equilibria, balancing redox equations, and problem solving. Also, a modernization of laboratory experiments to include topics in biochemistry, food and environmental science would be helpful in any future editon.

Good reference book for ASP.Net beginner
This is a great book which covers most of technique to write an ASP.Net web application using VB.Net for database access. All the examples are quite easy to follow and understand. I highly recommend to any person who wants to learn and build web application.

Comprehensive and professional beginners book
It is not until you read a book that is dedicated to using databases in ASP.NET that you realize just how much there is to learn. This is a very readable & well structured book with excellent 'Try It Out' examples that provide easy to follow step-by-step guides.

Obviously understanding data readers, datasets, command objects and web server controls is vital but there are some rare and extremely useful chapters: componentization - leveraging class libraries for data access, performance, and a chapter that discusses Data-Driven ASP.NET application in the Real World that raises some very interesting issues; for example security tips, raising your own database errors & organizing your code.

The authors not only provide information that you would expect but they offer every encouragement to raise the bar by discussing ways to do things even better; for example 'A Better Connection String', creating Data Access classes, and fine tuning dataset & datareaders.

Full of tips and best-practice methodologies
Accessing databases and datastores via the internet is becoming commonplace today. This book gives developers the fundamentals of what databases are, how to connect to them with ADO.NET, how to access/manipulate the database information and, especially, how to present it in meaningful ways using ASP.NET controls and VB.NET. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to grow beyond static-content web pages and begin development of data-driven web applications.

Written by a team of 10 professionals with different areas of expertise, this book provides a solid foundation for creating web applications that rely on creating, modifying, and displaying information accessed from an SQL database, although the source can be any data repository that has an OLEDB or ODBC driver written for it. Filled with many rich examples, both in the text and in the hands-on exercises, the authors go beyond the "this is the code you need to insert" paradigm and explain what each section of code is doing, reinforcing lessons learned from earlier examples as necessary. The exercises can either be typed in or run from source downloaded from the WROX Press website, both are error-free. The book is full of tips and best-practice methodologies, with an entire chapter devoted to performance considerations. The exercises were tested on students in a school lab and common mistakes are presented in a section of each chapter. WROX Press also has multiple levels of support available to those who need it. The book finally culminates in a "real world" online-auction application that covers all the bases and gives comprehensive substance to the theory and examples previously presented. ---Reveiwed by William S.

a matter of perspective
This book is essential for the library of every scholar of American constitutionalism. For those who have studied the subject, the superb selection of essays on different aspects of American political thought is enlightening. Those who are simply interested in America's founding may however be at a loss and overwhelmed by the wide range of arguments put forward in the different essays even if Gary L.Gregg did an excellent job in the introduction giving an overview to the reader of what he should expect in each essay. Thus, since all and even the American constituiton and its origins is a matter of perspective, this book can only be enjoyed after a thorough study of American political thought. For constitution freaks however it is not only useful to have, it is a real joy to browse through the essays.

Vital Remnants explains America's Constitutional origins
There is a palpable fear that America has lost its way, and perhaps even been untrue to itself. Examples of this loss abound, from school violence to a youth culture nihilism. "Vital Remnants," a collection of essays by some of America's top scholars in history, philosophy, political science, and law, shows, with remarkable clarity, the ways in which contemporary American society has radically altered the course upon which it was originally set. To be sure, our century looks at America with a different set of assumptions than that of our ancestors. "Vital Remnants" gives us clues by which we might stay the course for the benefit of generations to come.

Very good collection of tales
A good book to keep by the bed to help you fall asleep with images of a time that is gone forever.

Not to be confused with a history book written by any one person, A Rendezvous reader is a collection of selections from journal entries, newspaper articles and books, most only a page or two long, that show the culture and folklore of the mountain men and the beautifully wild world in which they lived. It describes everything from trapping techniques, encounters with grizzlies, descriptions of giant heards of buffalo, bloody fights with blackfeet, common and uncommon sources of food, surgery on the trail, beggers, weapons, river crossings, whisky, everything you might ever want to know about rendevous, why many were motivated to let out for the mountains in the first place and so much more.

The selections in this book offer the sights and sounds, smells and tastes of yonder mountains which makes worthwhile reading.

This is one entertaining read!
;) For any history and folklore affectionado, like myself, this book is made to order! The writing style is smooth and draws you right into the stories!

Lousy textbook, Chemistry students beware!
I have had nothing but problems with this book. The practice problems in the chapter do not reflect the ones at the end of the chapter, which pretty much leaves it up to you to figure out what is going on. The chapters are not well written in the first place! Very hard to follow! There is no supplemental solution manual to follow along with so you can see how the practice problems were solved. I could go on and on. In general, possibly the worst chemistry text I have ever had to use.

awful textbook
Obviously I am a disgruntled chemistry student. I will be graduating Cum Laude this spring, and I just suffered through Quantitative Analysis using this book. The problems do not match the examples, there is little background given to the concepts described, and there is no study guide that shows the methods needed to solve problems. My Thermal Physics instructor finally gave up using another Saunders book for the same reasons. Saunders books are more devoted to working problems than describing or teaching the processes that occur. I urge any instructors considering this book to look for a different text!!

Reasonably solid text, but far to many errors. A source of frusrtration for anyone trying to learn quickly.
