Disturbing
A very interesting look at the various "enhancement" procedures and medications that have become so widely used in our society. One of the more disturbing trends is that of voluntary amputation. This apparently is sought by people with healthy limbs who feel uncomfortable with their bodies. For example,a man who felt that his legs were never really a true part of him,may choose to become a double amputee. Not for the faint of heart.

This book will get you thinking...
Elliott's book is a good read for those who have ever worried about America's growing obsession with medicine and technology. Even if you haven't ever wondered or thought about this part of American life, read the book anyway, because you should probably start. Elliott brings in a little of everything: the past, present and future, and scientific data as well as personal opinion, in order to ask the question, 'So where are we going with all this?' I think that this book can start a lot of us out on the right foot in trying to answer that question...

Packed with philosophical whupass
A fascinating look enhancement technologies, from Ritalin to sex changes to voluntary amputations. Journalistic in style, but packs some serious philosophical ...

Fascinating for the casual and serious buffs
I received this book as a gift recently, and I got a lot out of it, despite the fact that I am not a Kane-ologist. Welles is revealed as a man who cared about his craft, and it details the inside story of many of his films, including the bastardization of the Magnificent Ambersons. As a director, Bogdanovich speaks the language, and does well to coax the reticent Welles to open up about various moments in his checkered career. Again, the serious film buffs get the most out of this book, but as a more than casual movie watcher I have read and re-read this book as I've discovered more of Orson's work.

Orson Welles: The Man and his Movies, Larger Than Life
I commend to the book above, an interview with Peter Bogdanovich.
Although I'm not a huge fan of the latter's movies (with the exception of "Paper Moon," which I loved ever since it came out when I was eight, and fell in love with tomboy Tatum O'Neill forthrightly), I have begun reading about half of this book over the past few days, and find it better than my previous favourite, the Hitchcock/Truffaut book. Of course, much favoured above Wilder/Crowe, namely because of Crowe's incessant name dropping of "Jerry Maguire" and "Tom Cruise" every other irritating sentence, which prevented the reader from finding out what
Wilder had on *his* mind.

What impresses me about the Welles/Bogdanovich volume is the raucous sense of humour Welles brings to the conversation, always as lively and as larger-than-life as Welles was. Also, Bogdanovich has laced the book with pertinent interviews, articles, anecdotes that elucidate certain points of the text, as well as Welles' lines cut from "Magnificent Ambersons" and the long memorandum he wrote to Universal studio chiefs and cc'd to Chuck Heston, trying to save what I consider his masterwork,
"Touch of Evil" from falling prey to overzealous editing by indifferent studio hacks.

But most of all, I am touched that when all the world was dumping on Welles, when he was being derided as a has-been and a spendthrift, that up-and-coming director Bogdanovich gave him his friendship and accorded him the respect he was so shamefully denied. Even Pauline Kael couldn't resist savaging Welles, and she wrote a particularly nasty and libelous article that Welles didn't write any of the screenplay to "Citizen Kane."

Of all Hollywood's sins (and I retain in memory a cross-indexed catalogue of them), the fact that even when Welles started getting "lifetime achievement" accolades, he still couldn't get any financing for his movie projects, on which he worked until his last days, leaves the bitterest taste in my mouth. There must be certain people destined to the lowest rungs of hell -- or at least purgatory -- for creating a world in which Orson Welles' last paid acting role was as the voice of the evil planet in a "Transformers" movie.

Touch of Genius
Of all books about Orson Welles, this one gives us the closest understanding of his genius. It contains a collection of interviews given to Welles by his good friend, Peter Pogdanovich. We are given a personal tour of Welles' thoughts and motivations behind some of his greatest or most notorious works, without the pompous guesswork of an independant biographer. At the same time, Pogdonavich acting as interviewer lends an air of honesty, as Welles isn't as free to reinvent history as he might have been if this were simply an autobiography. However, this interview format makes for a rough chronology, as conversations jump all over the place. The book does give some basic dates and highlights of Welles' life and careers, but the reader is still expected to know a little about Welles. You might want to suppliment this volumne with another Welles biography.

What entertained me the most was Welles' genius for story, which he not only used in such mastery on stage, radio, and film, but also in telling us of his own personal stories. I didn't realize the extent of Welles' accomplishments, which include some of theater and radio's finest moments, as well as film. Before making Citizen Kane at the ripe age of 26 (or 23?), Welles had a fuller, more distinguished life than most people manage to squeeze into a lifetime. Most importantly, this book can give a film fan some general insight to all those great "lost masterpieces", the films in which Welles often lost control over (which basically are the majority of his films). He explains his original visions and where the studios altered his work. Watching these films with this book as my guide, I noticed more of his touch and his genius than I would have without it. A great book and gift to filmmakers everywhere.

Live Right Lives Up to Expectations
For the past four years, I have been a committed follower of D'Adamo first book, Eat Right 4 Your Type. Following the type O diet has changed my life, as I have lost weight, become more balanced and focused, and have stopped the yoyo dieting that was a constant practice. I am pleased to report that this new work solidifies a lot of the material presented in Eat Right, explores the scientific underpinnings of blood type in fascinating detail and provides much more than a weight loss program... rather a program for lifelong health. As a read, it is very factual yet wonderfully understandable. The sections on blood type genetics, stress and metabolism alone set this book apart as unique. Heartily recommended!

Wonderful book.
Live Right 4 Your Type expands on the 4 your Type series. Whether you have read the first two or not, this third book has much to offer. It's a very nice combination of supporting scientific information, diet by blood type to benefit the emotional and physical body, and the ability of the author to elegantly tie it all together. The comments from real people throughout the book add some insight. But mostly it's Dr. D'Adamo's success in translating it all so the reader comes away with not just a way of diet but a way of life. An excellent read. An excellent reference.

This book details a very effective plan to optimize health
Speaking as a person who has been following the diet as put forth in the author's original, now classic book "Eat Right for Your Type" for over three years, I can tell you unequivocally that this diet has the power to profoundly change your quality of life and health for the better! I originally went on the blood type diet in 1997 because I was morbidly obese and needed to lose weight, but I have stayed on it and will stay on it for life because it has given me very deep health benefits that I never could have predicted or realized without it. The new book "Live Right for Your Type" goes into great detail on how to further refine the diet and exercise plan in order to minimize weaknesses inherent to your blood type and maximize your strengths, resulting in achieving optimal health. It provides greatly expanded food lists that also offer even more further fine-tuning of the diet with secretor/non-secretor lists (read the book to find out what the heck I'm talking about there!!!), which can be an important key in the diet as well. Whether you start out on this journey in order to lose weight, you have a specific chronic problem that you want to try to address through diet (and the book goes into detail on overcoming many health challenges by customizing the diet to treat these, instead of using drugs as orthodox medicine so often resorts to without trying simple dietary means first), or you are healthy and you just want to support your health in the best way possible for a lifetime, I highly recommend this book. I went on the blood type diet to lose weight, which I have, but it has given me so much more-it has helped me overcome previously uncontrollable food cravings, made my menstrual cycles regular and helped alleviate PMS symptoms, helped tremendously with an upper-respiratory problem, given me great energy, and returned my body and mind to a feeling and sense of balance and deep health. And that's just the tip of the iceberg! I can't say enough about this book-do yourself a favor and buy it, read it and put it into practice! You'll never want to look back!

If you don't have this book, buy it NOW
The first thing which impressed me in this book is that everything that I love eating was included in my blood type, except...bread. I was trying to understand a small health problem that I had, and this book showed me what it is: wheat intolerance! When I stopped eating whatever contained wheat my problem was solved. You can really improve your health condition and your immune system by learning what is blood type friendly and what you should avoid. As mentioned in the book, many people suffer from intolerance to a particular food but they don't know it because it could be something they eat daily, like in my case wheat, bread. As a result you always have a problem and you can't find what causes it. It has a full range of recipes which you can follow, combinations of foods, in order to prepare your meals easily, it shows you how to arrange your kitchen and your shopping blood type friendly. Excellent book

Applaud!
I applaud Dr. Peter J.D'Adamo for carrying on his fathers work (your father would be proud) I have searched for so long to understand some of the physiological responses I often experience with the foods I eat. Dr. D' Adamo puts it all into perspective. What is so very ironic to me is that, the foods suggested for my blood type A are all foods I absolutley crave and love. I suggest you go to his website and buy some of the products he has. I plan on purchasing an item he suggested for people still experienceing sugar cravings. This book has been a blessing, can't wait to buy the cookbook.

Excellent Cookbook
A great companian book to Eat Right For Your Type. I've only had the book a few days, but the recipes tried have been very good and the book is well organized and helpful in planning blood type specific meals, which is the point. To understand the theory, as well as to find the references in the scientific literature that support the theory, read Eat Right for Your Type.

Attractive, but light on information
This handsome book is a great introduction to the planets for the young reader. The pages are hard, cardboard-like, each with a clear plastic "window" that contains a drawing of the planet being discussed. When the book is closed, then all of the planets are visible at the same time. Each planet is covered with about a page worth of information.

This book is very attractive, and is a good resource for young children. However, I must make clear that there is very little information here, which means that older students will not find this book useful. Contrary to the recommended reading level of 9-12, I would suggest that this book would be most valuable for reader between the levels of 7-9; my seven-year old son enjoyed this book immensely. So, I would give this book a qualified recommendation.
